The New Girl
Sigyn watched as he took the binder from her and wrote down a few more notes and then gave it back to her. She smiled lightly back at him and nodded after he shook his head, knowing then that he was much smarter than he already looked so with one nod of her head, she turned and walked away and out of the classroom. Not looking back at other students, she made her way to her locker, taking the stuff for the second class. While she was taking her things, two boys approached her and she really tried her best to act as if no one was there.
âHey, so youâre the new girl, right? Si⊠Sigryn?â He asked, leaning against the locker. âSigynâŠâ She corrected him with a whisper, taking her things and closing her locker, about to turn but the other guy moved to stand in her way. âWhat kind of name is that? Itâs a very weird name for someone as pretty as you.â He smirks and she just looks down at her boots, not really answering. It wasnât the first time that people made fun of her name some times since it wasnât common at all, it was of Norse origin. She looked over at it a few times on Google and it said something about âvictorious girlfriendâ, which was a kind of stupid meaning.
âHey, whatâs that you got there?â One of them asked, taking Lokiâs binder from her arms and she gasped. âNo, itâs not mine. I need that.â She said, reaching out to take the binder back but the guy pulled it back again, opening it and seeing Lokiâs name at what he chuckled. âOh, itâs the freakâs! Look, Paul.â He showed the binder to the other guy who chuckled again. Sigyn frowned and took the binder from him with more force this time and pushing them aside. Itâs not the first time sheâs dealt with guys like them. âExcuse me, I have class.â She said, walking away from them, ignoring the sudden mischievous smirks that got to their faces.
Now, she had Chemistry, apparently so she quickly got into the classroom, taking the same seat as she had in the Mythology class. She didnât want to be outside on the hallway, the less people she saw, the better. With a sigh, she opened Lokiâs binder until she waited for the class to start, reading his notes. Why did seemingly everyone had a sort of dislike for Loki? He wasnât that bad⊠Well, not that she knows him or anything now but just because heâs wearing weird clothes or other weird stuff, doesnât mean heâs bad or a freak⊠Or maybe it was just her, maybe she was also weird and wanted to be with people like her. Sigyn just shook her head, reading the notes again, ignoring the students that got into the class.Â
Loki stood and strolled out of the class when the bell rang, taking his bag and journal and heading for his locker. He twisted the dial and popped it open, pulling out his things for Chemistry, his mind still on the girl. It was strange. Both he and his brother had the names of the Norse Gods, and now the new girl showed up, with the name of a Norse Goddess. It was unusual enough to get new students in the first place.Â
He slid his locker shut just as Thor ran up. Loki smirked, anything to get a rib in on the âperfectâ brother of the two. People still couldnât believe that they were part of the same family. It was obvious from looking at them that Loki was adopted, but Thor treated him like a brother, just as Frigga treated him as a son. It was nice. His last family had left him on the side of a highway when Odin, his adoptive father, had found him. It was ironic in a way that they all had Norse names.
Loki shrugged, patted Thorâs shoulder, and walked off down the hall. He saw that the new girl seemed to be having a bit of trouble, and he knew that it was somehow stemmed from him, seeing as his binder was in the antagonistâs hands. He felt a bit bad. The fact she was carrying something with his name on it made her a target for heckling, whether it was terrible or not. Luckily, the girl managed to evade the irritating people. Loki tapped Thorâs shoulder and pointed them out, and Thor went to give them a stern talking to before class as Loki walked off to his next hour.
He walked into his Chem class a minute late, on the dot, and noticed that the girl was in this class as well. By this point he knew the drill and set his binder, just as organized as the last, on her desk on his way to the back of the room to take his seat.
Why was it that she didnât noticed anyone else that entered except Loki? Well, his presence wasnât hard to not see but still. Whatâs going on? Loki⊠there was something interesting about his name, like sheâs heard it before many times, maybe read it in one of her many books⊠Or maybe it was norse like hers too. Her thoughts were so distracted that she didnât noticed when Loki waked in and she jumped up a little when he suddenly placed the binder on her desk but when she saw it was his, she just smiled lightly, looking over at him quickly.Â
Sigyn opened the binder and read over some of his notes before the class started, understanding what they were talking about pretty well thanks to those notes. The girl had just arrived to this school and already she had so much to thank Loki for. Even if apparently, he wasnât someone that people here liked that much, she was grateful and she didnât mind at all that she got in trouble or that people talked about her because of that. She was never one to judge others and she wasnât starting now, much less with someone like him.Â
The rest of the Chemistry class went by and then the next class went by as well, until it was finally time for lunch. With all the nervousness and excitement and such, she was very hungry and not to mention that she couldnât eat anything in the morning because of that same nervousness. But as she walked out to the hallway and made her way to the dinning room, she noticed that the same guys looked at her but didnât tried anything. In fact, they turned away just when she looked, in a seemingly respectful way. She raised an eyebrow at that but just kept on walking, reaching the dining room and standing in the line. Her eyes looked around, wondering where she would sit but before she could look any more, it was her turn so she just got the food in her platter.Â
She suddenly missed her friends back at her previous school, missed them waving over at her from their table, inviting her to sit down with them. Sigyn would always be smiling whenever they were around. Would she ever be like that again? Would she find people who would make her smile, who would always tell her jokes or just be there for her when she felt alone? The girl just shook her head, pushing those thoughts away and just looking over at the room again, searching for some empty table.Â
Loki remained in the back of the class the entire hour, now focused between the new girl and the journal in front of him. She seemed really interesting, though he would chuckle as soon as she realized why his name sounded familiar, and the connection their names happened to have. He smirked at the thought and went back to his journal, continuing his writing and watching until the bell rang for the end of the class. He stood up and headed for his next class, actually amazed that she wasn't in his class, so he went about the class as normal, just writing in the back.
As lunch rolled around he took his normal table, in the back corner, and remained there. It was a table that most refused to approach. Thor came over to visit him every once in a while, but it was mainly just Loki and his journal. He bit the inside of his cheek and pulled out his sketch book, drawing the one who had been on his mind the entire day. He sat, sketching.
He looked up and noticed the girl he happened to be drawing scanning for a table, and though he was one of the few open tables, he knew there was a chance that she would come and join him, but he figured the chances were slim, and he just turned back to his drawing, continuing it, the image now quite obvious who it was. Though he was one of the only empty tables, people tended to decide to squeeze in elsewhere, which is why he felt the chances were slim.
The New Girl
Sigyn has noticed that this Loki was a very strange person, just by looking at him. She also noticed the way others around the classroom looked at them both expectantly, as if waiting for her to do something, maybe to run off or to look all scared at him. But she wasnât scared, she wasnât intimidated in any way by the young man and his dark appearance. If anything, it brought her some sort of⊠interest, curiosity. Sheâs always been a very curious girl, always wanting to know more and more and so she was rarely scared by new things. Maybe thatâs why she got herself in trouble quite a lot of times.
At his glare, she did nothing being unaffected by it, only kept on smiling lightly, looking as he took out his binder. Sheâs already received enough glares and heard enough bad wishes to be really affected by his. Her head turned to the binder he placed over her desk, taking it and giving it a quick over view, noticing how well organized and how detailed the information was. Her smile only widened more and she looked back at him. âNow I see why the teacher asked for you. Thereâs no way Iâll be lost now. Thank you, Loki.â The girl nods and smiles, looking back up front to the teacher when he started the class.Â
She took a lot of notes as the class went by, using the notes Loki has given her whenever there was something she didnât understood. And she also noticed whenever she spared a few glances at the young man next to her that he didnât even looked up at the teacher but he still took notes and knew what the instructor was talking about. That made her smile a little.Â
Sigyn was pretty good at reading people, at least most of the time. It was obvious just by doing this, that the black haired young man was very smart and she didnât doubt that his knowledge would probably go beyond that of school signatures. He probably knew of so much more. After the teacher gave them all some homework to do research on norse mythology, the girl stood up, taking the binder in her arms and walking around her desk to stand next to Lokiâs. âSo do you need this soon?â She motioned down at the binder. âBecause if you do, I can write all of it on my notebook when I get home and give it back to you tomorrow.â
He nodded when she thanked him for the binder. Of course that was why the teacher asked him. Most of the rest of the class couldnât be assed to take notes, let alone actually be capable of helping out someone else. Hel, half of them didnât even listen to the teacher. Loki, on the other hand, seemed to pay the least attention out of all of them, and yet had one hundred and twenty percent in the class.
The raven sat in his desk, having not even looked up during the entire lesson, taking notes as usual, but his mind was mainly focused on the girl, Sigyn. She was one of the few that seemed unaffected by his glare, the only other was Odin. Even his older brother, Thor, was affected, at least in the slightest.Â
She seemedâŠsweet. A bit like Frigga at times, but still her own person. It was nice. Not many in high school were individuals anymore, and those who were were usually outcasted. She was pretty, he could see that, but he didnât know enough about her to make a judgement as of yet.
As the assignment was announced, he gave a small smile. Norse myth was by far his favorite, and the one he knew the most about. As soon as he was old enough to know about Google, he had been researching his name sake, and the stories surrounding him. It was fascinating.
As he heard the girl speak again he raised his head, glancing over at her again. She was asking him if he needed his binder. He simply shook his head. He didnât need it, at all really. It was all information he had memorized. He did, however, take it back for a moment to add his new notes where they belonged, wishing to stay orderly.
Sigyn watched as he took the binder from her and wrote down a few more notes and then gave it back to her. She smiled lightly back at him and nodded after he shook his head, knowing then that he was much smarter than he already looked so with one nod of her head, she turned and walked away and out of the classroom. âOther than interesting? A demon. Former King of the Crossroads. Current King of Hell. Am I getting somewhere?â
Slow claps. âYouâve done your research.â
âOne does not simply approach a demon without a bit of background knowledge, I think itâs safe to say.â
Shrugs. âIf thatâs your thing.â
He shrugged himself, âHaving knowledge tends to be a good thing. I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Loki, of Asgard.â
âI know⊠We should be friends you and I.â
Loki smirked, âThat would be a rather interesting team.â
He smirked as well. âIt would, so, what do you say?â
âI say letâs give it a shot.âÂ
âAlright then.â Smirking still. This would help him in the long run.
Loki nodded, "Yes. I can feel this will be an interesting partnership."
