evidence:
- just listen to any line of dialogue he has
- âvon Vestraâ is the absolute rawest surname I can think of. It sounds perfectly ominous and suitable for a character who looks Like That. but like ⊠his first name is HUBERT
- Me: âOh, maybe itâs pronounced the French way!â Edelgard: *very much not the French way*Â Hubert
- His entire deal is his obsessive and steadfast devotion to Edelgard. Edelgard is a character who can throw axes around like theyâre nothing. Hubert, meanwhile, is made out of tissue paper and will die from a single hit.
- Threatens Byleth, a trained mercenary, in their C-support. Has to attend class the next day.Â

Ferdinand didnât realize heâd been lulled into a near-trance by the rhythm of hoofbeats in mud until the shrill notes of Casparâs voice broke him out of it.Â

Linhardt, having been entrusted with said map, pulled it from his riding satchel and brandished it threateningly at Caspar. âJust before we entered the mountains. You saw me do it.â
âYeah, well, maybe we should check it again.â Caspar made a grab for the map but Linhardt yanked it away and nearly sent Caspar off his horse instead.Â
Linhardt rolled his eyes. âThereâs no point. I donât know if youâve noticed, but thereâs only one path, and weâve been following the river the entire time. Itâs impossible to get lost.â
Dorotheaâs horse pulled up next to Ferdinandâs then and she shot him a look of pure exhaustion. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze before she broke off for the squabbling pair.Â
âLinâs right,â she said, guiding her horse between the two of them, ever the peacemaker. âNo sense risking getting our only map wet with this mist. We can check it at the next branch in the road. Sound good?â She was cheerful as always, but her voice carried an undertone of frustration that Ferdinand had recently learned to identify and that no one else but the professor seemed to notice.
âYeah. Sure, fine.â Caspar swung his legs in the saddle, looking almost like a petulant child. âBut I still think weâve seen these trees before,â he grumbled.Â

II played a route of Black Eagles on Maddening, and got to the end of the game and Hubert died. What if Byleth and Edelgard were unable to kill Rhea? And Byleth did live for centuries?

It was an uncharacteristically warm day, after all. And the little, palm-sized cake somehow did end up being in direct sunlight. It was going to turn bad very shortly. Okay, so maybe it wouldn't actually turn bad, but it would definitely turn in an unappetizing, melted mess, that would ruin the visuals of the whole plate, when Alina had worked so hard to make this luncheon perfect.
So he did the only sensible thing: he covertly lifted the cake from the plate and ate it.

He ran into Alina not even five minutes later. She looked at him with furrowed brows, head tilted slightly to the side. "Have you taken some of the sweets?" she asked.
"Of course not," he replied, a picture of innocence. "I know they are off-limits until the guests arrive."
She pursed her lips together, as if to keep herself from smiling.
"I'm not saying that you are a bad liar, Sasha," she said, reaching for him and swiping her thumb along the corner of his mouth. "But the next time you might want to get rid of the evidence first."
I just realized another incredibly obvious thing that for whatever reason hadn't connected in my brain yet.
Yesterday, I posted a tiktok about "ship and let ship." Today, instead of deleting the comment, I got into a conversation with someone who couldn't believe anyone would really uphold that belief.
In the midst of that conversation, they brought up the well-worn line, "what about pedos who use fanfic to groom their victims?"
I replied that I blame the abuser, not the tools that they use. They could just as easily have used anything else.
That person replied about "normalizing" and "media" etc and that's when it hit me that their talking points amounted to blaming either the victim of the abuse or the unrelated fanfic author. There was no blame for the abuser.
If you really want to solve the problem, start by identifying it correctly.
I feel like this kind of ties into âq-slurâ discourse, in the sense that the whole âqueer is a slurâ argument is also predicated on the idea that âif words can be used to hurt people, those words should be banned.â
The results are the same. Banning âbad wordsâ doesnât protect victims of homophobia & transphobia â it just creates an environment of forced disclosure, forced outing, that further silences/excludes/marginalizes victims.
Demanding that people not to use the term queer forces trans/bi/ace people to out themselves, usually resulting in them immediately being subjected to bigotry.
In the same way, claiming that only real victims should be allowed to write stories about rape and child abuse, and labeling anyone else who wants to write about those things as an abuser, forces victims to out themselves as abuse survivors. Which of course paints a target on their faces.
Whether weâre talking about identity labels or fanfiction stories, banning words doesnât make it any harder for abusers to abuse. Instead it makes it exponentially harder for victims to process their trauma safely.
Iâve said it many times that abuse is the result of an imbalance of power. You fight abuse by empowering victims. If your efforts to end abuse involve further controlling victims, instead of empowering them, your efforts will only worsen the abuse problem.
Not to mention the fact that banning words doesn't work. People just stick an asterisk in the middle or use another word that sounds similar or revert to acronyms or bleeping things out.
Telling people to stop talking about something won't stop them from doing it. It will just make them get more creative with how they do it- which also makes the conversation more confusing, less accessible, and harder to avoid by using traditional blocking methods.
