Piper: You really are a big girl now! Reciting Shakespeare?!
Riley: Yeah I hear "Slings and Arrows" is his newest album. It's all the rage with the kids.

Piper: Just hello? Come on, Riley! Haven't seen you in years and all I get is HELLO?!
Riley: Well I could recite you a Shakespeare play if you are so inclined to it.

"I do," Daphne returned with a sunny smile, one as bright as the sun above. She recognized her old friend’s voice without having to upturn her eyes, but not doing so would have been rude, so she glanced up anyways, not unhappy with seeing Riley in any circumstance. "Do you want sunblock?" Perfume rustled against a bottle of water as she pulled out a long tube of white and big, block letters on the packaging. "You still burn right?"
Riley just laughed, Daphne always had a way of getting Riley to do something she would otherwise not do on her own. Mostly girly, frou frou things that Riley secretly enjoyed. After shielding her eyes while looking up at the sky, Riley eventually sat down next to Daphne. "Well, alright. Yeah, I burn up really bad and at the end of it, I look like a red hot lobster."

Blood Turned Cold || Valerie & Riley
valerie-theprincess:
"Riley," Valerie acknowledged in an indifferent tone, her eyes going back to the papers in front of her. She was pretty sure that her sister did not want to be at at the event, but only for their parents and the sake of having the marriage a sacred event involving families. As she wondered why her sister was standing there, Valerie heard Riley mumble something that she did not catch. "I’m sorry, do you need something?"
"Valerie" Riley answered in a tone dripping with annoyance and sarcasm. She was really hoping that the library was empty but even if someone had been in here, she probably wouldn't have cared. Anyone but her sister; Valerie had a way of getting under Riley's skin in a way that nobody else did. "Uh...No, I was just going to the library. I didn't know you were in here." She answered, trying her best to be somewhat civil.
It was a strangely nice day. The weather was warm and breezy and spending it cooped up in the manor would have been a waste of a good hour or two. “Oh hello,” Daphne spoke up from where she was outstretched, the sun beating down on the skin she’d left exposed; her legs and arms and stomach. “Great weather for Spring, don’t you think?”
inkstaineddaphne:
Riley wasn't one who ever liked to purposefully be outside; ever since she was little, the sun just had a way with burning her skin and making her itchy. But today, she felt like she simply had to go outside. She had roamed nearly every part of the manor and was getting tired of it. As she made her way outside, she noticed someone sunbathing. "If you say so..." she answered.
Blood Turned Cold || Valerie & Riley
valerie-theprincess:
Valerie had been relaxing in the library for the past couple of hours. It was one of the rare moments where she could have a down time alone. Perhaps ‘down’ would be stretching it. She was still revising the order of the guest seats, but at least she was not being hassled. It was relaxing in a way. A long period of silence with just her and the papers. Her stream of thought, however, was interrupted by the door opening.
Riley was bored which wasn't saying much because she always seemed to be bored. She found herself roaming around the manor, completely enamored by the architecture of the place. It seemed so surreal, as if she was dreaming and waiting to wake up. She ended up finding an ornate door and was immediately curious to what it held. As she pushed the door open, she instantly saw her sister sitting at a table with an organized mess of papers. "Oh great" she mumbled to herself.
Bridge to Nowhere // Prompt 1
Wisdom tells me to turn away Broken once, it's all the same My arms will grow Chest expanding Of all the boys you could have landed Why'd it have to be me?
Of all the things that Riley wished for, she wished for others the most. It was something she never shared with another soul, not one other person knew this about her. She put up a strong, confused front in order to protect herself from what she thought was the inevitable. She didn’t want to be forgotten, to be known as something less then herself, something that didn’t even matter. She acted out in order to get noticed but it wasn’t who she was. Still, that’s who she became and so she embraced the role. The one thing she wished for the most is recognition, for at least one person to see who for whom she really was, a task that Riley deemed impossible.
She drowned herself only to see who would jump into the water with her. Unfortunately for Judah Dalton, he became that person; the one who fell into Riley’s emotional whirlwind. The one thing Riley regrets is that no matter how hard she tried, she just could not fall in love with the boy. She just couldn’t. How could someone who doesn’t love herself fall in love with someone else? So Riley did what she did best: she pretended to get what she wanted. And what she wanted is what she got. She was an abuser to the highest definition of the word, someone who took what they wanted and left nothing behind. No matter how you sliced it, Riley was using Judah to get what she wanted. When he walked away she didn’t blame him, in fact she praised the fact that he did.
Because the Siren does not apologize to the seamen for how they listened to her song; they should know that her song is only an illusion, a rouse to get what she wants. She is broken from the start, a soul that has never been full and never will be. She is destined to be broken so she breaks herself before the world gets a chance. She figures this is the best path for her; that she might as well give up on the world before it gives up on her. She has never been given anything so she takes it all. But in the lonely hours, in the solitude, she cries herself to sleep. She watches cheesy romantic comedies and images herself in them, knowing full well she will never have a love like that. Because she knows that is the only happiness she will ever be and each time she thinks things will get better, they only get worse. So she has no ambitions, no reasons to still be walking on this earth; the only thing that keeps her afloat is the undying human need to breathe. So she takes a breath and every time hopes it will mean something. But it never does and it never will. She knows it and each time a part of her recognizes this fact, another part of her dies just a little. Just a little break here or there and soon she is falling with no one to catch her. It’s just how she likes it.
Can’t take my eyes off you | Cary Brothers
Let the Games Begin // Riley and OPEN
Riley wasn't too fond of the character she had been assigned for the murder mystery. She was Natalie Nementz, who was annoyed by her brother; a fairly boring character in Riley's eyes, one that wouldn't allow her to get into too much trouble. Which was completely untrue of course because if there was anything that Riley was good at, it was getting into trouble.
Sucking it up and telling herself to just try and have fun, Riley got dressed for the evening and made her way into the bar room of the Belvadere Manor. The place made her skin crawl, it was too big for her liking and full of too many hallways to get lost down. Riley could imagine how someone could easily turn a corner and quickly finding themselves unsure of where they were, a thought which haunted Riley. She was often fearful of being forgotten; that there would be no one to find her in her time of need, no one who would care.
After what felt like eternity, Riley finally managed to find the bar room and sighed with relief. Still, she stood in the doorway and stared at the room. It was smaller then she had thought yet somehow still quite large; she wasn't used to such wide open spaces full of people. It was that which bothered her the most, that she would have to be somewhat respectful. At least, that's what the little voice in her head told her to do. Riley, of course, very rarely kept on the straight and narrow path.
After a good long look at the place, Riley thought to herself nope, not happening before turning around and heading straight into whoever decided to be standing right behind her. A loud thud resonated through the bar room, leaving Riley confused and embarrassed.
Here Comes Trouble // self-para
Riley sighed heavily before opening her eyes to look through the tinted car’s windows at Belvedere Manor, the hotel she was going to stay at for her sister’s wedding. The whole idea made Riley’s stomach twist and turn as if it was aching to break through her skin and run away. Riley wanted to run too but she was obligated by her family to stay. That reason was what always made Riley either stay or run. In a word, her family was a mess; on the outside they seemed like the perfect little group of flawlessness but Riley knew better. She watched as a multitude of people gathered their things and headed inside of the building. Riley knew that her sister was going to go all-out for her wedding but seeing it right in front of her made it seem all too real. Riley watched for a few more minutes, waiting for the moment when she would recognize someone.
The driver’s distressed voice cut through Riley’s thoughts and made her focus. She quickly thanked him before stepping out of the car and retrieving her bags from the trunk. Once the car had pulled away, Riley took a moment to look at the place she would be staying for who knows how long. It was a huge building that looked like it had been brought to life by the words of Jane Austen. The structure of it looked like it had been built by someone who had too much time on their hands. It involved a lot of unnecessary things that most likely had their own fancy words to describe them. The building seemed like it could hold an entire city of people, a thought that had Riley wondering if her sister had, in fact, invited the entire city to her wedding. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities.
The hustle of everyone around her made Riley feel uneasy and an itch started to form from the deepest parts of her. She not only wanted to run but to drown herself in her addiction. She knew in that moment that it was going to be hard to deal with this whole scenario. While a marriage is normally considered to be a happy moment, for Riley it was anything but. It was just another moment where her sister was in the spotlight and Riley sat idly on the sidelines. She sighed heavily again and joined the masses of people entering the building. The moment she walked through the door, Riley had her breath taken away. She was face to face with an elaborate staircase, each of the tiny details forming an elaborate picture of elegance. In that moment, Riley could understand why women were so enamored with romance novels, particularly ones set in the 1800s. It was simply a beautiful time era, one that seemed to be seeped in an air unlike any seen today.
The hotel’s appearance was starting to grow on Riley and it almost made her forget why she was here to begin with. In a fleeting moment, she was looking forward to staying at the hotel, wondering what other rooms there were and what they looked like. Her excitement built when she thought of what her room looked like. If it was at all close to how magnificent the staircase was, Riley was sure to have a good time. She would have a miserable time at the wedding and whenever her sister was around but when Riley was alone, she decided to make the best of it all. She remembered a time in her life when she was young and impressionable; how she fantasied about places like this, how they always seemed to be full of mystery and wonder. Needless to say, it was going to be an interesting stay at Belvedere Manor.

Riley has had the same stuffed bear since childhood. She received it as a birthday gift and held onto it through everything that she has been through. It reminds her of a time in her life in which she was happier; it is the reason she has held onto it for so long, hoping that it will somehow ground her and remind her of better times.
"Can’t you hear my call? Are you coming to get me now?I’ve been waiting for you to come rescue me. I need you to hold all of the sadness I cannot; living inside of me. I’m crying out, I’m breaking down"
Riley Torres ↳ the prodigal daughter: one who leaves home and behaves recklessly…then returns.
Age → Thirty-seven
Floor & Room # → 4th & 43
History ↳ Riley Torres was born into a family that was built on appearances and, unfortunately for Riley, she spent her life trying to be noticed. It was a double-edged sword: if she was good, she was unnoticed and if she was bad, she was swept under the rug. No matter what Riley did, she was simply never going to truly be part of the Torres family. That went to her sister, the cookie cutter princess of the family; the one who was going to carry on the Torres name like it should be carried. As far as Riley was concerned, her sister was perfect no matter what she did because her parents made it true. Even though the two sisters were separated and lived different lives, Riley still yearned for a life with her sister.
Regardless of it all: the bullying her sister constantly put Riley through and how often she was ignored, Riley was forever hopeful of having that perfect family picture that she saw on television and read in books. After spending most of her life trying to be noticed and failing miserable, Riley simply stopped trying. She stopped trying to be someone she wasn’t and instead of bothering to care about being the perfect family member, she decided to be a troublemaker. She found rather quickly that a girl who goes to parties gets attention from people. Even more so, the girl who is so reckless that she jumps head first without looking gets even more attention. It became a toxic environment for Riley, one she wasn’t willing to admit that it was bad for her. After all, at home she got no attention; she was constantly fighting one way or another for a breath of air in an ocean of her family name. But out here on her own, she was the center of attention. She fell down the rabbit hole and didn’t even bother to look back at who was worried about her fall. She was too afraid that nobody would be looking.
Her life changed drastically but Riley didn’t seem to care. It wasn’t until she met Judah Dalton that she found the attention she had searched her whole life to find. But a relationship built in the mud oftentimes becomes rusty and broken. Riley and Judah were reliant on each other in the worst of ways. They egged each other on to do more and more things that were nothing but trouble. They found each other when they were falling and knew that, eventually, the ground would find them both. It was only a matter of time before they hit rock bottom. But Riley was far too broken from the start to stop her descent into darkness; once she jumped, it seemed like nothing was going to hold her back. However, once Judah wised up and left her, a fire was lit in Riley that she wasn’t aware existed. She had found the one thing she was looking for and she let it slip right through her fingers. Despite it all, she vowed to find it again at any cost.
Personality ↳ Riley is a complicated girl and that’s how she likes it. She is full of mystery and prides herself on being someone who is hard to define. Her troublemaker ways have always been with her, they just manifest in different forms. In a lot of ways, she is like a mirror: the person she comes in contact with influences the way she acts. She could be the reckless girl, the Torres family harlot, the bitch, the recluse…whatever act she needs to put on in order to get her way.
But despite what role Riley puts on, deep down she is a lonely soul. It is why she has turned to becoming an addict and why she does the crazy things she does. She’s not simply looking for attention; she is looking for friends in all the wrong ways. Riley just doesn’t know how to act around other people and as a result, she acts out. The whole thing is a huge vicious cycle that she will probably never become aware of and/or be able to prevent.
Headcanons ↳
Riley still has an old pink teddy bear that she received as a gift in her childhood. It is something that attaches her to a time that she considers to be happy.
While Riley understands that her addiction took over her life in the worst way possible, she doesn’t fully understand the weight of the problem. She still has the want to go back into her old life when she is feeling down, which is quite often.
Riley isn’t sure if she ever loved Judah and even though they were inseparable, she isn’t sure if she truly knows who he is. She probably couldn’t tell you what his favorite color is or what his favorite book is, etc.
Riley loves and hates her sister all at once. She feels that their relationship was wasted; that Valerie was never interested in being a friend to Riley. She wants nothing more than that friendship but secretly knows it will never happen.
