Trying to write DC fanfiction has a lot of the same problems as trying to write Star Wars fanfiction. You think you could be fine, that you put your research in and watched/read what you needed, but then someone will come out of nowhere and be like "um actually this was already addressed in Action Comic #1001 and you would know this if you were a real fan—"

It doesn't matter if you added "Not Canon Compliant" or "Canon Divergence" or, hell, "Not Fanon Compliant" you'll still get comments about how "uhhhh that's not how that character acts at all—"

Except it is how that character acted in this other comic you have read and can directly reference but clearly the commentor hasn't read it or else they wouldn't be saying this. But if you try to defend yourself and point out how you're Right Actually, it just turns you into the "um actually" fan that everyone finds obnoxious and—

so last year during a period of intense suicidal depression i made this necklace that i always wear, right, and the thing is it's genuinely brought me a lot of comfort and relief and i've developed a strong sentimental attachment to it, to the point that i can inarguably state that it's had a net positive effect on my mental wellbeing. however i did now just have to stop to almost throw up laughing because i realised that i've succumbed to the amulet.

Every time I apply my oestrogen gel because of menopause I think "there is a trans woman somewhere who is also sitting in her underwear post shower waiting for the gel to dry before she finishes getting dressed" and I feel happy and a sense of kinship and camaraderie with her even though I am not a trans woman or even trans femme in anyway

But I know how to apply the gel because I saw posts from trans women how to apply it and I feel that even though are reasons for using it are different that we are not so different
