I. have so much planned for this AU actually. Like I actually forgot how much I have planned for it and then I put my hands on the keyboard to finish writing the first oneshot fic for it and just... so many ideas?

Wilson is a therapy dog: the full moon decided to show up around the afternoon and now are intrepid protagonist is following best friend's "pet dog" around as the dog sneaks into the kids' rooms in oncology. Y'know, because dogs take after their humans, or whatever.

Cuddy is a vampire, apparently: and uses her thrall abilities to get house to do more clinic hours. This works for longer than he would like to admit.

Chase is eating rocks on main: y'know how Chase's dad fucking dies? he also forgot to tell his son that magic exists and, slightly more importantly, that after his death chase will become really fucking magical, or whatever. So now chase is stuck in both grief and hunger and only has half a guess on how to fix either of those. Feat. cuddy informing chase that his hunger is different to vampire hunger. also friendship I think)

fascinated by how badly some of the subtitles in the local cooking channel's subtitles are

#this time specifically some show where the guy was making “spag bol” as in. spaghetti bolognese #and whoever wrote the subtitles just decided “bol” must be a misspelled “bowl”#like. thanks for just deleting the entire. point. bowl of spaghetti and spaghetti bolognese are. different things #this is your job. why are you bad at it #...at least its not the time the subtitler mixed up salt and flour in a sauce recipe and asked for a tablespoon of salt by accident #or the time a recipe asked for a teaspoon of salt and the subtitles said tablespoon instead #or the time they said you should slowly add stalks to your risotto and forgot about the stock for the entirety of the recipe #or the one time the guy said “this should cook for 25 minutes” and the subtitles said “10 minutes” instead #like. not even missed the 20 part and accidentally wrote 5. just full on #this might be malicious Im just realizing #someone is punishing everyone who can't hear or understand english. by ruining every single pasta dish on the cooking channel #translation adventures

oh yeah! I was just thinking about it earlier today, funnily enough. prof suggested I take my conclusions about all the confounds in my first run of the experiment (eg some sentences straight up not having the necessary phenomena occur in natural speech), and make it into something properly??

so. can't actually say more until I maybe publish it. which is kinda insane to think about actually

#like imagine writing a paper for class as a 2nd year BA student and its so cool your prof wants you to make it publishable #for the record Ive yet to compare with any of the rest of my classmates but I think I'd know if any of them got similar responses?#like only one I talked to when we got profs reviews back said prof didn't agree w his conclusions #(which is fair bc he also said he didn't agree with his own conclusions either. so)#but like. I know some of my perspective on linguistics is weird bc I have the weird pattern recognition autism #and the only things I use it for are an innate understanding of grammar as a step by step method and. recognizing marsupials #but like. considering both my phonology prof (the one who reviewed this paper) and my phonetics prof (from my various elevator wins)#they both seem to think I have really good ideas. like I just go “hey what about loan signs” or “what if I research uwu speak”#and theyre just. baffled and fascinated. I say the weirdest shit and they LET ME??#but sometimes I just say normie shit like “french loans from spanish are cool” and they still agree #Im still lowkey baffled by how much some of my profs like talking to me #like. holding up an elevator bc I got off and was still saying smth and they want to hear more kinda like talking to me #baffling. getting called a linguist by my profs and I dont even have a degree yet #(yes that happened. multiple times #like in the context of “thats what makes you a good linguist” or “linguists like you ask the coolest questions"#and every single time I feel like Im about to Explode)#Im also actually doing smth similar for the follow up class to the one I did the uwu paper for though!#and its about morphology and we need to do presentations about it and since this is root-to-template stuff #my entire presentation has a carrot theme. because I duscuss the C-root theory #(and because I refuse on principle to do blue presentations. #me when the interest is linguistics #I hear a british person pronounce a word ending with r and lose my mind #(this is directly due to me researching british rhotics in uwu speak last semester)#(I will now forever hear the overgeneralized rhotic vowels at word final positions)#also. every time theres a Word I get Weird about it #my niece is 1 year old and learning to speak #and every time I see her (twice a week) I go “omg she has sibilants! aww”#also etymology. and loanwords. and unique morphological applications #(I am very normal about morphology)
