After 21 years, I can finally say I finished Everworld

I'm really happy to have finished it, but I can't say I'm satisfied with how it ended, especially since the last book reads like it was either ghostwritten or a first draft (both possible)

There were glimmers of brilliance, but I really wanted at least one more book to take us through a final battle with Ka Anor

I enjoy LS for the most part, but some members are comically bad sports

It was especially apparent last season when most of the server logged off for the rest of the season after the End Fight was ruined by DI, and then later when DI and B!ng had their official falling out

Ironically it's the older (agewise) members who are the worst sports 🐧🐸

Another thought I had while rewatching Obsession was that this shot (colors and brightness enhanced for clarity),

which takes place the night Bear rapes Nikki, reminds me strongly of Rene Magritte's famous painting, The Son of Man.

I scrolled through his paintings because I know obscuring faces is a motif that shows up a lot in his work and

Untitled (Woman's Face covered by a Rose) struck me as remarkably similar to the still from Obsession.

It's an interesting visual representation that Bear never really saw Nikki's "face"; she existed in his imagination only as the simulacrum of an ideal partner. Additionally, it's a visual cue that Wish Nikki is not the same Nikki from the beginning of the movie, several minutes before we get this

much less ambiguous and extremely creepy clue which, again, reminds me of Magritte. After all,

ceci n'est pas une pipe.

Watched Obsession a second time and have much less complicated feelings about it

It's so much fun while having layers to peel back with each viewing, e.g. I'm pretty sure Bear drugged Nikki that last night based on a line I couldn't understand in the theater

My only major complaint is with the sound mixing, which comes down to the movie's shoestring budget—the background noise is being picked up by the boom so every time someone speaks the ambience spikes too
