It's not a virtue to focus totally on your own peace and disregard problems around you. Ironically, it's also not a virtue to stew in your own anxiety.
People online like "I will NOT seek peace while there is suffering around me! I will inflict suffering on myself as long as there is pain in the world!"
Cool, that's useless.
It's one thing if you say "As long as there are hungry people in my community, I'll stay engaged with the food bank," (which probably will actually comfort you because you'll be surrounded by people working for a solution!) but for a lot of people it's "As long as there is suffering in the world, I will self-flagellate with sad Instagram reels," and you might as well not.
Hey I just want you to know if you had to quit school and do homeschool in order to stop the daily panic attacks and suicidal thoughts, you aren't broken. There are tons of us who could not cope with the modern public school system, and endured social trauma at a young age. Humans weren't designed to live like this. No matter where you are now, I'm so proud of you for getting through that pit of darkness. If you're still there, I promise the rest of your life will not be this way. You'll find your people. People who make you feel normal and worthy of community, because you are âĄ
not sure if this is a hot take but school is extremely traumatic and needs huge reform. it causes immense damage to everyone who goes through it. no large-scale school system is exempt from this. this happens in all countries, not just the ones where it's worst. this problem's also inextricably tied to capitalism and neither can be fixed without also fixing the other
school genuinely breaks people (and others) with even worse being done to those with intellectual disabilities and neurodivergents and those with other psychiatric disorders
You're always told where to be and when to be there. You're told what you're going to do and with whom. You have to ask if you're allowed to pee, can only eat and drink when allowed, only enjoy the media allowed by those above you. You're constantly punished for not living up to their standards. You're left hungry and exhausted with absolutely no remorse. There's no escaping the punishments. There's never an escape.
And they still try to tell me it's not traumatic.

I think the biggest thing I had to come to terms with my bullying was that it wasnât my fault. No matter how âweirdâ, I was no matter how âdifferentâ I was I didnât deserve it. I was a human being, I was a child I never deserved it
Despite what those people taught you, you can trust yourself. You can trust your feelings, your instincts, your impulses, your wants and needs, your own logic and experience of the world. They did not know better than you, and they still donât. You are the only expert on yourself.
I think one of the (many) problems with religion is that instead of your morals informing your belief, your belief informs your morals. and this is a Very Bad Thingâą because your morals don't have any logical basis (or the logic is horribly antiquated). it's literally the opposite of the scientific revolution. I've also noticed that the more monolithic a religion is, the more they tend to be bigoted. like christians can be terrible, sure, no doubt about that. but some of them can be pretty accepting (depending on the denomination). in my experience as a former Muslim, they tend to be more uniformly bad (homophobic, misogynistic, etc.) Im not saying they're all bad; I'm just saying that because the belief is a lot more standardized (really few factions), people are more likely to base their entire moral system on those beliefs instead of being more open. it's kinda culty in my opinion

I love you "boring" female characters. I love you ingenues. I love you female characters who aren't "modern" enough. I love you female characters who aren't "badass" enough. iI love you female characters who aren't "empowering" enough. I love you quiet female characters. I love you unappreciated female characters. I love you polite female characters. I love you female characters who "can't appeal to modern audiences." I love you frightened female characters. I love you female characters labeled as not complex just for being nice. I love you female characters who get criticism just for not being their tomboy or femme fatale counterpart. I love you silk hiding steel trope.
âItâs no longer 1937⊠sheâs not gonna be saved by the prince."Â
The absolute DISRESPECT for the FIRST ANIMATED MOVIE EVER MADE and its female character who was strong in her own way! The DISRESPECT for Snow White coming from people who plan to ââ"updateâââ her story??? Iâm FUMING. i am FURIOUS. This is the SAME shit I said about Girlboss Cinderella do you understand???
Snow White was an abused CHILD who was isolated within her castle and then suddenly thrown into the  woods and she managed to survive using only her hope and kindness!!! She found a house and offered to work to earn her keep and she DID!!! Snow does not have to be a badass to be a strong female character. And more importantly, SHE DOES NOT NEED TO BE âBADASSâ TO DESERVE HER HAPPY ENDING. Some of us in abusive situations CANNOT escape on our own. We CANNOT physically fight back and WE STILL DESERVE HAPPY ENDINGS.
Women donât have to be badasses in order to be strong female characters. So she needs to be savedâ so WHAT? Saying Snow White is an antifeminist character solely because she doesnât save herself is offensive to abuse survivors and to the original character who WAS a good character. You can criticize OTHER parts of the movieâ the implication that men living without women will be useless and filthy the entire time, or we can discuss the Queenâs feud with Snow being fuelled by misogynist standards, etc.!! But just saying âshe needs to be saved so itâs badâ LIKE. ARE YOU SERIOUS
Badass Snow White reboots are fine in moderation, but just like Girlboss Cinderella reboots, too many and it becomes clear what society is trying to say now- that if youâre feminine and canât fight a battle, you donât deserve to be saved. Do you see why this is a bad message????? Some girls are badasses who can kill and fight as well as or better than the boys. Those girls have Mulan, Merida, Raya, Moana, Rapunzel, Elsa. They are good female characters. But you know what? So is Snow White. So is Cinderella.
Iâm sure people are going to accuse me of being antifeminist for saying âoh she NEEDS to be saved by a manââ Iâm NOT SAYING THAT. You could have her be saved by a woman. Be saved by the dwarves, her platonic friends. By the animals. You could write a badass Snow White reboot without being disrespectful to the original film or tale. Just fucking TODAY I read the Disney Mirrorverse Snow White bookâ itâs written for 13yos basically so not high art but even with them having to make her an adaptational badass, they managed to keep her personality PERFECTLY. She learns how to save herself in this book, but also remains HERSELF. And her previous inability to fight was NOT CRITICIZED by any character; her sudden badassery was a bonus for her, not an indication of her character!!!
YOU are the ones saying that if Snow White (and Cinderella) isnât saving herself, she doesnât deserve to be saved. But everyone deserves happiness and that includes those too weak to fight for it alone.
anyway that was a long feminist rant. this is also super disrespectful to the FIRST ANIMATED MOVIE EVER, the people who worked on it, Walt Disney himself, and everyone who enjoyed or was inspired by it. You absolute fucking dickheads.
also canât believe i have to say this but if y'all use this as an excuse to be racist towards anyone in the cast i will hunt you down and put shoelaces in your lungs
be free!!
