Why would you bring up the drama? The people who were mad, mostly donāt like her now and have moved on. Those that didnāt think it was awful are still fans. You are the one bringing up drama. No one has talked about the Adrianna drama for a long time, unless they are bringing it up in this case. If they are still in the drama thatās on them and itās also ridiculous.
This is my blog. I can talk about whatever the hell I like. Youāll notice that didnāt tag the post, as I understand that many people come to six to escape and that they might not want to see that post, but I am free to talk about whatever I want on my blog and I wonāt apologise for that, especially since it was literally related to the situation I was discussing. If you donāt like that, then I donāt know what to tell you other than youāre self entitled.
For those who donāt know, around this time last year, Adrianna Hicks (broadway Aragon) liked a post on Instagram that was related to conversion therapy, and was following the account (I think it was a church group) that posted this. However, if I recall correctly the post seems supportive of the LGBT+ community at first glance and didnāt mention conversion therapy in the actual image (you know, the part people pay attention to). As Adrianna isnāt LGBT as far as I know...it did seem like a genuine case of just liking a post and not fully understanding the implications behind it. I say that as a member of the LGBT community. However, at the time, a lot of people were upset (myself included) and Adrianna did get a lot of backlash. Since then, Adrianna apologised, unliked the post and stopped following the account. She hasnāt had a problematic incident since. Whether you choose to forgive Adrianna is a personal thing. While I was originally upset at the time, Iāve since realised that it is really easy for allies to not understand the implications behind their words (I had to explain to a straight friend once that even if Iām in a straight relationship, that doesnāt stop me being bisexual) and Iāve moved on. If you personally havenāt moved on for the Adrianna situation then thatās fine. Itās a very personal thing for if and when you decide to forgive someone. Thereās no fandom consensus, it just happens to every individual.
However, back to your point anon, the reason I brought it up was because it directly related to the subject I was talking about. I donāt just randomly bring up that one time that Adrianna liked something problematic because...well why would I? Iām not an asshole, despite what you might think. Iām not going to drag up stuff from a year ago, unless Iām using it to make a point. And I was using it to make a point. Because the reality is that the wider fandom has a massive double standard with bow they treat WOC.
The simple fact is, Adrianna is not allowed to forget about the one time she messed up. A year later people still bring it up when talking about the broadway cast. The simple fact is Adrianna will never be as popular Aragon as others becuase she will always be associated with that drama. Even if people arenāt directly discussing it, the impact of it is still very much felt. When compared to any other version of Aragon (who is already an underrated character) Adrianna has very little content. Hell, even when it was announced that Six was going to broadway, I saw people on insta wondering if Adrianna was being kept on because of the drama. So your idea that no one talks about it (which they do) is naive and even if people didnāt talk about it, you can still feel the effects of something that happened over a year ago and she apologised for it. You talk about people being fans of Adrianna but Iāve never seen Adrianna get the amount of love that other members of her cast get. I wonder why that is...
But Aimie? Well, sheās messed up as well. But a few weeks later, everyone either wants to forget about it and move on or just never discussed it in the first place. Although her popularity has waned slightly and some fans are annoyed at her...itās not massively noticeable. In a years time, I bet Aimie!Howard will be just as popular as she was before
Within the wider fandom, Aimie will never be defined by the one time she messed up. At most, itāll be a sidenote to remind new fans that the queens are human. Adrianna will probably always be defined by the one time she messed up. And when you take into consideration the races of the queens in question...itās clear that this a double standard is more than just what cast said queens are on.
(Btw Iām not saying people have to make content of Adrianna!Aragon or have to stop making content of Aimie!Howard. Iām just saying that the impact (or lack there of) that their controversies had on the fandom as a whole is interesting to note.)
