Just as Teo had done years prior, Luna charges forth without a single moment of hesitation, appearing in a flash to take the brunt of whatever blow might come their way.
Whether or not the would-be assassin realized that Luna was there would soon be rendered irrelevant, for their knife–coated with some sort of paralyzing substance… she silently notes–goes not through the fur and into the flesh of Teo’s neck, but instead bounces rather pitifully off of the female dragon’s crest-like horns.
To say that it didn’t sting would be a lie, but the wound was minor at best and would heal within a day or so, with her deeming it to not be an issue shortly after realizing as much.
With a snort, her gaze snaps in the direction of where the knife had come, inhaling deeply, almost as if she was attempting to calm herself.(But of course, that is not the case.)
Like a switch had been pressed, Luna shifts to a protective stance, wings spread wide like a shield (so they could not attempt more harm again while she readied herself) before she takes off, a blur of embers and fury, into the line beginning the nearest forest’s borders, making no sound except when crushing twigs beneath her feet.
She hears the swearing of the hunter, the horrified shock they practically exude when she charges straight through their base camp without stopping, and when they trip, she pounces.
Fangs digging into their back, through their armour and all, she quickly hauls the hunter into the sky, furious that they not only had tried to harm her most precious mate friend, but that they thought they could escape into territory owned by those they had just tried to kill.
Briefly, she spots Teo from how high up she is, and just as she can see him, she knows he can see her–and the powder shimmering in the air both above and within the canopy.
O, how the mighty hath fallen.
Luna’s snarl could’ve been mistaken for a smile, what with how effortlessly she carries the human up higher and higher still, their clothes and skin alike becoming coated in the explosive powder the she-dragon has been shedding the entire time.
They have enough time to ask themselves aloud ’Is this how I’m g–’ before she drops them without warning, and their horrified-beyond-belief screaming fills the air as they plummet down, down, d o w n…
The second their body touches the leaves, she gnashes her teeth, a hellfire-laden storm erupting, greedily consuming the plant matter in the immediate area, and Luna knows without looking that not even charred bones will remain of the pathetic human.
As easily as she carried them to their doom, she soars through the air and lands next to Teo, shaking her head and mane briefly (as if to rid her body of the fool’s scent) before stretching.. then casually licking one of her paws and swiping it across her crest, cleaning where the knife had glanced upon her.
She pauses long enough to regard Teo, then tosses her head in a faux-dismissive manner, a light, soft laugh escaping her.
