always struck when the uk government says "there is no place for knife crime in our society" because then I start trying to think of a society fully oriented around knife crime

“Pop Artist, Andy Warhol, and underground film actress, Edie Sedgwick, may accept a lucrative offer to head a Rock ‘n’ Roll combo.
The group will be called ‘Edie & Andy & The Ups.’…”
The Salt Lake Tribune, November 15, 1965
It seems that, lucky for us, life had other plans for the Velvet Underground, since Andy Warhol may have been the definition of the versatile avant-garde artist but, god knows, he wasn’t cut out to be the frontman of a rock’n’roll band
Actually, it was David Bowie who had referred to him as “…emotionless, indifferent, just like a dead fish. Lou Reed described him most profoundly when he once told me they should bring a doll of Andy on the market: a doll that you wind up and doesn’t do anything…”.
(…on the other hand, the shoegaze scene may have missed an opportunity to start in the mid-’60s, instead of the late ‘80s…)

the thing about tomgreg is that it IS very much a "hahaha isn't it funny and weird that this strange man has a crush on another doofy man?" trope like smithers and mr. burns or dean pelton and jeff but it's taking place in a time where culturally we are post-queerbaiting, so the stakes are real. something might actually happen but no one can say what. tomgreg is simultaneously a throwback and a progression but ultimately it's too strange to be placed on the continuum, and it probably only happened because the two actors are the two people who are over 6'0 in a cast full of under-5'10s
