New Project: Illuminate
Hey loves! The past couple of weeks Iâve been working on starting a lifestyle blog which will be sort of a spin off to this blog (glowuptips). So far Iâve created the basic layout of the blog using Wix and settled on the name Illuminate and the slogan will be âGlow From The Inside Outâ. Iâm hoping to launch the blog by the 18th (maybe later) and Iâm hoping to build a team to help me with the blog. (Shout out to @soliloquie for the idea of creating a team. You can check out Soliloquie Magazineâs Website Here). There are six different positions Iâm hoping to fill fairly soon. Read on below and if any catches your eye please do apply! If there isnât anything that catches your eye but you feel you could still help donât be afraid to contact me and let me know!
Editor | 1-2 People (for now) | The editors job is pretty simple. My goal is to start posting bi-weekly and then weekly, however I would like someone to review my blog post and make sure there arenât any errors and to offer suggestions on areas that are hard to follow when reading (like this entire post lol). Apply here.
Graphic Designer | 2 People (maybe more) | As a graphic designer your job to start will be to digitally design a logo for the website. *Your work will be credited somewhere on the site. However there will be other graphics to be designed in the future. Apply here.
Social Consultant | Not sure how many people⊠just wow me | If you are a social media guru then this position may be for you. Iâm looking for someone who can help me set up different social platforms and optimise them as much as possible so I/we can drive  traffic to Illuminate. Also your assistance will be needed finding new ways to promote and engage with followers. Apply here.
Photographer | 2-3 people (maybe more) | Wix offers free images, however I would like original photos to put on the website. *Your work will be credited. Since the blog is titled Illuminate, Iâm thinking I mostly need bright/sunny themed photos (we can discuss more after youâre selected). It would also be great if you could provide tips for the photos I have to take myself. Apply here.
Creative Team | 6-7 People | Basically you will be coming up with content ideas (not exclusively post). *All ideas will be credited. I donât have any thing else to add for this description right now since the job is really just brainstorming post ideas. Apply here.
Assistant | 1 Person | LMAO. Ok, so take me seriously on this one. I legitimately need someone who is going to keep me on track for this blog and take over for me when I canât lend my presence. Itâs going to be a back and forth thing where we communicate on a daily basis and make sure weâre both managing our blog responsibilities (and our lives if you feel like it) properly. So If youâre up for the challenge apply here.
I hope people are interested and apply. I also hope youâll reblog this post to spread the word to other people who may be interested. Thank you!
HOW TO APPROACH CLASSES A guide to getting the most out of your classes and lectures

Design inspired by this post by @journalsanctuary
your icon is so cute!! did you make it?
Hi there!Â
Thank you so much!! Yes, I made it myself with Adobe Illustrator :)
What note taking method do you use?
Hi! Sorry for the delayed response.
I use a personalized Cornell Note Taking method. I find that annotating extra but non essential information on the left column of the page gives me a deeper view on the subject. On this column Iâll usually write extra readings that could be useful, tips made by my professors and even movies I should watch as examples at home (I study 3D Film Production so a lot of movies are recommended to me everyday by my teachers) . I also donât make a summary at the end of the page.
Iâll probably make a post about my notes if enough people are interested :) Lately Iâve been pretty busy with college (I start class at 7:30 am and most of the time I leave campus at 8pm). So I canât guarantee itâll be soon :( But I hope this answers your questions in the meantime.

I NEED A WITCHY MUSIC PLAYLIST
Anyone know some songs I could add?Â
Midnight City (Trentemoller Remix) by M83 Nightcall by Kavinsky and Lovefoxx Wrath Of God by Crystal Castles
Alright get ready for quite the list here, because if theres one thing I consistently love, itâs music with feeling and this makes me excited so⊠yea.
First off, what kind of witchy playlist are you thinking here? Techno and witch house? More alternative stuff? Emotional instrumentals (my personal fave)? Etherial/folky music? Stuff thatâs more explicitly witchy in nature? Or maybe a combo of those, and even more? ny way, Iâve got you covered. (fyi, these are all extremely abridged lists. if you want some more ive got plenty) For the most part, though, In my opinion âwitchyâ music is just music that makes you feel powerful, so itâs sorta a bit different for everyone, and this is just my take on it.
For stuff thatâs vaguely or explicitly about witches/magic, etc, try stuff like:
The Ghost Who Walks (Karen Elson)
Small Town Witch (Sneaker Pimps)
They Are Night Zombies⊠(Sufjan Stevens)
Into the Unknown (OTGW)
several songs by Mirah
Lighthouse (The Hush Sound)
stuff by Timbre Timbre
also soap&skin
and Crystal Castles (witch house.. if you like it, there are playlists)
as well as Magic Wands
For instrumentals:
Harry Potter OSTs
I Donât Think About You Anymore But, I Donât Think About You Anyless (Hungry Ghosts)
The Fountain OST (Clint Mansell)
The Taste of Blood (Jozef Van Wissem & SQURL)
Danse Macabre
Ghosts (John Murphy)
Panâs Labyrinth OST (Javier Navarette)
Olafur Arnalds
Temple of the Winds (Barn Owl)
KIKIS DELIVERY SERVICE OST (Joe Hisaishi)
Romantic Works album (Keaton Henson feat. Ren Ford)
Gramatik
Bedroom Window or Variazione Di Un Tango (Dustin OâHalloran)
Waltz no.2Â (Shostakovich)
Hungry Face and Get to France (Mogwai)
On the Nature of Daylight (Max Richter)
Autumn Song (God is an Astronaut)
And if you like more etherial alt. and folk-ish stuff:
Florence & The Machine (literally anything by her)
several songs by Sufjan StevensÂ
Iron & Wine
Radical Face is totally awesome
The Violet Hour (The Civil Wars[instrumental])
anything Agnes Obel
From the Woods (James Vincent McMorrow)
Sea WolfÂ
Hidden Beneath (Message to Bears[instrumental])
for more weirdish stuff try SoleyÂ
or cocorosie too
And stuff that (in my opinion) just feel witchy:
crosses
Low Roar
Massive Attack is weird af
Big Houses (Squalloscope)
Anything by Purity Ring
Where the Wild Things Are (Patrick Watson)
Living Behind the Sun (Devics)
House of the Rising Sun (Lauren OâConnell)
Pyre (Son Lux)
Bottom of the River (Delta Rae)
Dance While The Sky Crashes Down
The Vampyre of Time and Memory (Queens of the Stone Age)
Warpaint (most of their stuff really)
In the end, though, it really just depends on what music speaks to you! So while I find all this music witchy in one way or another, you might end up with a completely different set.
THANK YOU
Gold. Right here.
â little quotes iâve lettered. if youâre ever in need of some rly cool quotes, i have a quotes tag that i absolutely love (thatâs where i got these from)Â

Health and Hygiene
1. Switch out coffee for tea. You still get your caffeine fix without compromising the calories, sugars, and fats.  There are also various flavors and sugar/calorie free sweeteners for tea if you donât like the taste.
2. Cut all sodas, energy drinks, and artificial juices out of your diet. Switching to just water is insanely beneficial for weight loss, nutrition, and to generally feel better.
3.  Use mouthwash before your brush your teeth, not after.  Mouthwash helps to break down colonies of bacteria in your mouth, and loosens them from your teeth and gum surfaces.  Brushing your teeth is what completely gets the bacteria out of your mouth.   Mouthwash before brushing=whiter, cleaner, healthier teeth.
4.  Switch to unscented menâs deodorant.  Womenâs deodorant is generally weak af, stains clothes, and doesnât last nearly as long as menâs.
5. Switch to menâs razors for shaving your legs/armpits/pussy. It has finer, sharper blades for a clean shave without nicking your skin.
6.  Never ever ever use douches, scented pads/tampons, or strongly scented soap for your pussy. It fucks with your natural pH and can cause yeast infections, UTIâs, and just generally throws off your pussy âs health.
7.  Lotion/moisturize your skin (preferably with SPF) every single day.  Aside from easing dry and dead skin, it helps you tan better and more evenly during the summer.  Using SPF protects your skin from harmful UV rays and makes your skin younger, more radiant, and more flexible.
8.  Do a mini workout in your bathroom right before your shower.  I like to do 50 squats, and then 30 sec side planks on each side while waiting for my water to warm up. It kills any âno time to workoutâ excuses, and you can wash any sweat or grime right off immediately after.
9.  Switch up your workouts every 3 months to avoid plateuing.  Keep your body challenged and excited during your workout.
10.   Eat at least 3 meals a day, each with a serving of protein and fiber.  Donât skimp on fruits and vegetables, and try to cut unnecessary starches and complex carbs.
11.  Make some bomb ass workout playlists to keep you jamming and motivated when you exercise.  Be sure to switch up playlists and songs to keep it interesting, too.  I like to use songs I donât know the lyrics to; I learn the lyrics through working out, and when I know the song word for word I switch it out for another song.
12.  Stretch before bed every night for a better nights sleep and less soreness in the morning.
13.  Be sure to have an even balance of weight training and cardio in your workouts, to strengthen your muscles, bones, and your heart without exhausting or neglecting any one part of your body.
14.  If your insurance covers it, or you can afford to, go to a chiropractor every few months for a regular adjustment. It releases endorphins, fixes your posture, relieves any pent up spinal pressure, and feels just as satisfying as a massage.
15. I like to make sure my feet are smooth, soft, and pedicured at all times.  Buy a small pumice stone to rub your heels and soles in the shower with soap and water.  Always moisturize your feet after you shower, and avoid being barefoot in wet, populated surfaces (public bathrooms, showerhouses, etc)
16. Before brushing your teeth, dip a cotton swab in some diluted hydrogen peroxide and run it over the surface of your teeth and gums. Hydrogen peroxide kills many harmful bacteria in your mouth. This will leave your teeth cleaner, whiter, and stronger.

school is hard. itâs kind of a fact. hate to break it to you, but it only gets harder. sure, academics are important, but your mental health is even more so. taking a break and having some fun is crucial to preventing burn out, but sometimes it gets a little harder to do so on a tight budget. hopefully these tips will help you out. xoxo, m

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
While this post is directed towards students who will live on campus, this list is basically about being responsible as you grow older, which is something we must all do:
On move-in and move-out days, wear comfortable/exercising clothes. You will be hauling your stuff up and down stairs and/or elevators, and you will be going inside and outside. Wear comfortable clothing (AND SHOES) on these days.
If you have a roommate (or more), take a deep breath, introduce yourself, and exchange your contact information.
Itâs okay if you donât get along with your roommate(s) immediately. You are only beginning to know each other. In the words of Lemony Snicket, âI donât know if youâve ever noticed this, but first impressions are often entirely wrong.â
âŠBut hey, sometimes theyâre not and if you have a conflict with your roommate that you cannot solve by rational discussion, contact your RA and let them know whatâs going on.
Never, ever let your roommate (really, anyone) take advantage of you. If they are bringing people over that are making you uncomfortable, let them know! If they do not respect you, your space, or your stuff let them know! If they do not stop, request a roommate change. Please, donât let them steamroll over you. Do something to solve the situation. Donât be passive!
Do not make a habit of drinking or smoking. If you already do, nowâs the time to reconsider.
Donât spend all your free time in your room. Explore your campus and find several study spots that you can access when your roommate is having a party on the night before one of your mid-term exams.
Do not feel obliged to drink with your friends. If they canât respect your choices, theyâre not really your friends. Stop lying to yourself.
Living on campus gives you more time to explore your school and the city around it. Go out for a walk! Visit local coffee shops, public libraries, and immerse yourself in the culture of the city around you. You will find very interesting people!
Always be cautious when going on walks alone. Always be cautious in general. Life is not a indie summer movie and you should always be aware of your surroundings.
Take advantage of campus events with free food and free stuff! You know that student activity fee? This is part of where your tuition is going!!!
Always lock your room.
Believe it or not, making your bed after you get up can make you feel more organized and less stressed. (This is coming from someone who has always thought it was pointless to make my bed.)
If you have a stove or oven in your room, always check it before you leave or go to sleep! During my junior year, my roommate left the oven on 5 TIMES over the course of two semesters. PLEASE be careful.
â wow omg this post has been in my drafts for almost two months fghfk;; notes on metamorphosis by franz kafka!! the school year is slowing down which is a huge relief because i feel like i can finally breathe :,)Â

Cleaning & Tidying
Make your bed in the morning. It takes seconds, and itâs worth it.
Reset to zero each morning.Â
Use the UFYH 20/10 system for clearing your shit.Â
Get a reed diffuser and stick it on your windowsill.Â
Have a âdrop-zoneâ box where you dump anything and everything. At the beginning/end of the day, clear it out and put that shit away.
Roll your clothes, donât fold them - or fold them vertically.
Automate your chores. Have a cleaning schedule and assign 15mins daily to do whatever cleaning tasks are set for that day. Set a timer and do it - once the timer is up, finish the task youâre on and leave it for the day.Â
Fold your clothes straight out of the tumble dryer (if you use one), whilst theyâre still warm. This minimises creases and eliminates the need for ironing.Â
Clean your footwear regularly and youâll feel like a champ.Â
Organisation & Productivity
Learn from Eisenhowerâs Importance/Urgency matrix.Â
Try out the two-minute rule and the Pomodoro technique.
Use. A. Planner. (Or Google Calendar, if thatâs more your thing.)
Try bullet journalling.
Keep a notebook/journal/commonplace book to dump your brain contents in on the regular.Â
Set morning alarms at two-minute intervals rather than five, and stick your alarm on the other side of the room. Itâs brutal, but it works.Â
Set three main goals each day, with one of them being your #1 priority. Donât overload your to-do list or youâll hit overload paralysis and procrastinate.Â
If youâre in a slump, however, donât be afraid to put things like âshowerâ on your to do list - that may be a big enough goal in itself, and thatâs okay.Â
Have a physical inbox - a tray, a folder, whatever. If you get a piece of paper, stick it in there and sort through it at the end of the week.
Consider utilising the GTD System, or a variation of it.
Try timeboxing.Â
Have a morning routine, and guard that quiet time ferociously.Â
Save interesting-looking shit to instapaper. Have a set time where you read through the stuff you saved to instapaper and save the shit that you like from instapaper to evernote (or bookmark it properly).Â
During your working hours, put on your footwear, even if youâre sat on your bed. (Why?)
Have a folder for all your important documents and letters, organised by topic (e.g. medical, bank, university, work, identification). At the front of this folder, have a sheet of paper with all the key information written on it, such as your GPâs details, your passport details, driving licence details, bank account number, insurance number(s), and so on.Â
Try using StayFocusd and RescueTime (or similar apps/extensions). (I promise, youâll find that youâre not as busy as you think you are.)
Schedule working time and down time alike, in the balance that works for you.Â
Money
Have. A. God. Damn. Budget.Â
Use a money tracker like toshl, mint, or splitwise. Enter all expenses asap! (You will forget, otherwise.)
Have a âmoney dateâ each week, where you sort through your finances from the past seven days and then add it to a spreadsheet. This will help you identify your spending patterns and whether your budget is actually working or not.Â
Pack your own frickinâ lunch like a grown-up and stop buying so many takeaway coffees. Keep snacks in your bag.Â
Go to your bank and take out ÂŁ100 in ÂŁ1 coins (or w/e your currency is). That shit will come in useful for all kinds of things and youâll never be short on change for the bus or the laundry.Â
Food & Cooking
Know how to cook the basics: a starch, a protein, a vegetable, and a sauce.
Simple, one-pot meals (âa grain, a green, and a beanâ) are a godsend.Â
Dried porcini mushrooms make a fantastic stock to cook with.Â
Batch cook and freeze. Make your own âmicrowave mealsâ.Â
Buy dried goods to save money - rice and beans are a pittance. (Remember to soak dried beans first, though!)Â
Consider Meatless Mondays; itâs healthier, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly.
Learn which fruits and vegetables are cheapest at your store, and build a standard weekly menu around those. (Also remember that frozen vegetables are cheap and healthy.)Â
Learn seasoning combinations. Different seasoning, even with the exact same ingredients, can make a dish seem completely new.Â
Donât buy shit for a one-off recipe, especially if you wonât use it all. If you really want to try out a recipe, see if a friend would be interested in making it with you, then pool for the expenses.Â
Make your own goddamned pasta sauce. Jamie Oliver has a decent recipe here, but the beauty of tomato sauce is that you can totally wing it and adapt the fuck out of it.Â
Misc
Have a stock email-writing format.Â
Want to start running, but find it boring? Try Zombies, Run!.Â
Keep a goddamn first aid kit and learn how to use it.Â
Know your OTC pain relief.Â
Update your CV regularly.Â
Keep a selection of stamps and standard envelopes for unexpected posting needs. (It happens more regularly than you would think!)Â
Some final words of advice:
Organisation is not a goal in itself, it is a tool. Donât get caught up in the illusion of productivity and get distracted from the actual task at hand.Â
Routines and habits will help you. Trust in them.
You have the potential to be an organised and productive person, just as much as anybody else. It just takes practice.Â
this is truly excellent đđ»
Hey guys! So school started yesterday and I'm already swarmed with homework, so I apologize for the obvious lack of posts. I do have a lot of things to tell you and plenty of things prepared for this account, but I'll be mostly active on the weekends. Hope you understand and have a wonderful day!! Also, I want to thank and welcome all of my new followers! This has been really crazy, I started this studyblr just to keep up with my college work and have fun while doing it and didn't expect such a response. It seriously means a lot, so thank you and ily!
2/8/17â happy august! a simple, sort-of-halsey-inspired spread bc i got to see her at the beginning of the week. đŠđŠ
