🎃 Samhain 🎃
On Samhain, also known as Halloween, the veil between worlds is at its thinnest. This allows for easier communication with spirits and improved divination. Samhain also celebrates the last harvest of the year and the beginning of the “darker half” of the calendar. Some people call it the witch’s new year.
Activities:
Eat an apple or drink apple cider.
Light incense or a candle.
Honor your ancestors and deceased love ones.
Take a bath.
Decorate your altar.
Carve a pumpkin.
Divination.
Spells for protection, honoring the dead, abundance, and clairvoyance.
Go trick-or-treating.
Make a besom.
Take a walk outside.
Collect fallen leaves and acorns.
Stones:
All black stones (obsidian, onyx, jet, etc.), clear quartz, amber, turquoise, smoky quartz, amethyst, beryl, fluorite, moonstone, lapis lazuli, bloodstone, peridot, and tiger’s eye.
Colors:
Orange, yellow, black, purple, silver, gold, and white.
Symbols:
Fire, besoms, pumpkins, gourds, jack-o-lanterns, nuts (especially acorns), and apples.
Herbs:
Mugwort, mandrake, cinnamon, sage, black pepper, hazel, rosemary, allspice, and catnip.
Flowers:
African violet, cactus, carnation, and dandelion.
Incense:
Dragon’s blood, sandalwood, cinnamon, heliotrope, mint, nutmeg, myrrh, and patchouli.
I really really want to do something for the full moon, but I live with family who wouldnt approve of it(and also I am broke) I do not have anything To do any sort of spell, but also I don’t even know what I want to do I have so many things I want to come to fruition, things to change, and some things that I’m just wishing for at this point that I’m just very lost on what to do and how to do it w/o the tools I might need and I wondered if you have any advice?
I’m sorry you’re stuck in that situation. I spent my first few years as a witch that way, and it was very discouraging. I’m actually planning a full-length episode of Hex Positive for January that will have lots of tips for witches who can’t practice their craft openly.
For the time being, there’s a very simple ritual you can do for this month’s full moon (or any full moon) to make wishes or manifest your desires, or whatever else you might want to do.
All you need is a clear glass of water and a view of the sky.
Find a place where you can see the sky and the full moon. Sit with your glass of water and think about what you want, what you wish for, what you’d like to change in your life. Hold these things firmly in your mind. Make a written list if you want.
Hold up the glass of water in both hands and line it up until you can see the moon through it. Hold it there for a little while, focusing on your desires and willing them to come true. Pour your energy through your hands into the glass of water and visualize it mixing with the moonlight.
When the moment feels right, bring the glass to your lips and drink. Visualize the manifestation of those wishes and the power brought by the moon flowing into you, making you stronger, and bringing the things you wished for into your life.
This is a very simple way to make moonwater and a drinkable wishing potion when you have nothing else to work with. It can be done with other beverages as well, so long as you can see light through the container and the liquid inside. If you want to do some covert herb magic, you can use your favorite tea, since many commercially-available tea blends contain herbs that are good for attraction, luck, prosperity, and so forth.
Hope this helps! And Happy Samhain!

Spirit Work: Red Flags!
Spirit work has always been a huge part of my life, ever since I was a wee two year old toddling around my grandmother’s house. In my two decades of talking to the otherworldly, I have run into horrible spirits and gotten into toxic situations. Evil spirits (and morally grey ones) can and will deceive you. This is a list of signs that the spirit you’re interacting with is toxic or may hurt you.
1. You feel anxious, scared, or a sense of foreboding when interacting with them or when they are around.
This is also known as a sense of dread. Some spirits have heavier energies, but if you are feeling dread, trust your intuition and BANISH immediately. Cut all contact.
2. The name they give you keeps changing.
Some spirits have personal reasons to not give you their true name. This can be a red flag sometimes, but not all of the time. However, having a name that never stays the same is a red flag. It’s a form of deceit and manipulation.
3. It’s too good to be true.
If a spirit comes to you like “YOU ARE THE MOST POWERFUL HUMAN EVER, I HAVE A MESSAGE FOR YOU” or some over the top theatrical stuff, it’s usually a trick. Don’t let them in your life. This isn’t to say that a spirit coming to you and claiming to know you or want to help you is always bad, but be wary.
CW: assaulty, abusive stuff next
4. They manipulate how you feel towards them.
Some spirits, typically those that feed off of sexual energy, will put you in a haze. You will see no wrong in what they do. You may be very sexually attracted to them out of no where or somehow just give in to their advances. This can also take the form of unhealthy levels of dependence and even worship.
5. They manipulate how you feel towards others.
Just like humans, bad spirits want to isolate you and make you more vulnerable. You may find yourself getting into more fights with friends or family. You may have several falling outs and not know why. The spirit will literally be a voice just telling you everyone is horrible and against you.
6. They hurt you.
This can be emotional, psychological, or physical. Scratches, bruises, bite marks, sore limbs, all of it can happen. They can break you down emotionally and break you psychologically. This is usually coupled with gaslighting.
7. They make you feel powerless.
These spirits know they can be banished, so they will make you think that you’re too weak to do so. They make you give in and give up.
8. Unwanted switching/possession/oppression.
Once they have enough of a hold on you, these spirits will literally take over your thoughts. They can even take over your words and actions. Switching is a common thing in spirit companionship, but non-consensual switching is a huge red flag.
What do I do if there are red flags?
Remember that you are always in control. You are the conjurer, you are the medium. No matter how powerful a spirit claims to be, you can always get rid of them. Banish them and ward yourself. Step away from spirit work and tune out of the other world until you recover. Focus on the mundane until you have healed.
Actually useful shit to have as a witch
You really don't need all the fancy bullshit every tumblr influencer will ever tell you to use. Here's my countdown ofaxtually useful shit.
A pocket knife, preferably with a wood handle. Use that bitch for everything, enchant it, carve symbols in it. It will absolutely be your best friend.
A good bag or backpack with a couple of plastic or ziploc bags in it. If you ever run off into the woods to find minerals, bones, plants, etc. A set aside bag and some things to store your treasures in becomes a necessity.
Basic divinatory sets. You don't have to buy fancy shit, learn to divine with playing cards and dice, or learn geomancy, lithomancy, or rune casting with homemade sets. A tarot deck is nice, but it isn't necessary when you've got so many other divinatory aids available.
A nice sized chunk of scrap cloth. When you process dried plants or sort new ones, that shit can and will get everywhere. A scrap piece of muslin or linen can help contain all of that mess and make clean up way easier.
A stash of good rocks. Draw sigils or symbols on those babies and leave them in the garden, the windowsill, property boundaries, under the stoop, etc. You can never have too many good rocks.
A pendulum, for fucks sake. The cards are going to be vague as hell when you're trying to figure out yes or no questions, and using a candle to communicate with spirits is really fucking hard outside. If you can't afford one, find a nice chunk of pointy quartz and learn to macrame.
A workspace. Everyone talks about having big fancy altars, but no one mentions that you need a good surface to do all your work on.
Storage, so much storage. I'm not talking about mason jars and pill bottles, I'm talking about where you put all the things you put in those jars. Having a workspace with drawers is immeasurably helpful.
A broom and water source. You're going to be cleaning up after yourself a lot, it's helpful to have a jug of water and a broom that stays by your workspace.
A mode of cleansing. I make a salt concoction to scatter around my workspace on short notice and store it close by.
On that note: SOMETHING TO CANCEL SPELLS WITH. Eventually, something will go wrong. You'll want to end that spell immediately. Have something to do it with.
A strainer. If you don't have a blender, rub dried plants across it to get a powder. If you do have a blender, you can strain that powder with it. Either way, if you intend to powder shit, get a strainer.
Small trays. It makes drying flowers so much easier if you have a small metal surface to contain them with- then just stick those suckers in a southern window and let em go.
Yarn/string scraps. Having a box or drawer of scraps makes trying this up to dry easier and a bit less wasteful.
A stash of offerings for whatever you work with. Honey for fae, coins for graveyard gatekeepers, alcohol for ancestors, etc.
Protective talismans or charms. Once you're into all of this stuff, you'll likely stick your nose in something you shouldn't. Having basic protection with you or in your workspace is incredibly important. A key and hagstone with red string is simple and effective.
A lighter- so many people forget the most basic shit. You're going to want to light shit on fire if you're a witch.
And a last tip- if something is too hard for a mortar and pestle, a plastic bag and hammer works too.
If you’re a witch, please DM me. I am wanting to make more friends! I would like to know you all personally! 🖤🌙🔮
Please reblog to reach the most witches. 🧿
