Long-ish intro post about this blog, alterhumanity, and me below the cut.
This post may change and update a lot since I'm constantly organising things and making new discoveries, so keep that in mind.

ABOUT ALTERHUMANITY:
Alterhumanity - An umbrella term referring to identities/experiences that are considered alternative to the societal understanding and expectations of humanity.
This encompasses a wide range of identities that, while generally having a solid definition, are incredibly personal to the individual.
Find out more here, here, and here.
ABOUT ME:
Alterhumanity, like many other aspects of our identity, is subject to change over time—and so one’s experiences and sense of self is not strictly limited to one thing.
With that said, my current alterhuman identities are as follows:
Theriotypes:
- Sizeshifting black domestic shorthair
- Coyote
- Lion/Lioness
Heart-types:
- All felines
- Envy (concept)
- Music (concept)
Miscellaneous Kintypes:
- Anthropomorphic black domestic shorthair/werecat
Critters, beasts, concepts and alterhumans of all kinds- I came up with an idea.
May I present to you:
The alterhuman biodiversity report
Since the haters say that we all are either wolf or fox therians, I’m going to make a list of all the species (and not only) I encounter in the community. I’m going to pin this post and update it every time I meet someone with a new/different identity.
Also, you can DM me, send me asks, repost or comment if you want your identity to be added. I’ll try to include everyone but it’s probably going to take me some time, so if I don’t add you right away, don’t worry, it’s just going to take me a bit ;)
IMPORTANT!!
The only requirement to be on the list is to make clear the exact species you are. That’s because I want to make the list as full of variety as possible. For instance, if you tell me that you’re a parrot therian, I won’t add you unless you tell me the exact species (ex. Hyacinth Macaw).
At the bottom I’ll tag those who I included in this list (unless the user is not ok with it, of course. I’ll try to be careful and look at your blog before tagging you, but if I accidentally tag you/add you on the list without your will then DM me so I’ll remove you).
The colored creatures are my theriotypes/kintpes.
I warn you. The list is going to be long.

You don't stop being fictionkin when you grow up, your fictionkinity just takes ever more mundane forms. For example, I'm 27 and I needed new containers, so I got the slime green ones because I'm Ben 1O
In the same vein, being an adult therian rocks. We have almost entirely nature-themed decor, my bed is functionally a cave, and when we finally manage to get a house I will be installing a climbing wall somewhere. If I start getting antsy about my surroundings feeling Too Human I can just go for a walk in the woods even if it's 11pm. Most of the dysphoria and angst young alterhumans have is just that you aren't allowed to make accommodations for yourself!
Please note: This post uses "people" as a species-neutral term. It is addressed to the broader nonhuman community and is not intended to "reality check" endels, physical therians, transspecies folks, etc. You guys can ignore the bits that don't apply to you, but please still read this.
This one is going to be hard for a lot of people in this community to hear, but the longer I've been alive the more convinced I've become that misanthropy always stems from unprocessed self-hatred and insecurity.
There is a tendency among therians and otherkin, especially anyone newly-awakened, to see humans as somehow worse, lesser, or even evil as a form of self-affirmation, and it eats away at those people from the inside. It's part of a common phenomenon where people with marginalized identities cope by turning the out-group (in this case humans) into an unrelatable enemy that oppresses them by simply existing. In every case, that type of outlook is unrealistic, unsustainable, and results in further feelings of alienation, rejection, and self-pity– as well as retaliatory antagonism from people in the privileged group who would otherwise be supportive. All it does is make everyone miserable and create an ever-growing rift between people who could be creating community together.
The way this behavior presents in nonhuman spaces is generalized misanthropy. Statements like "humans could never understand us", "my boss forced his horrible human culture onto me today", "of course [x] is terrible, humans made it", and the ever-present "I hate humans".
Unlike in other marginalized groups, however, with therians/otherkin this out-group bashing presents an additional problem: we were born into human-shaped bodies and live human-shaped lives. It is impossible to say "I hate humans" without also saying "I hate my body and my life". Saying "I hate humans" is, unambiguously, a form of self-rejection. Holding on to misanthropy is what keeps therians and otherkin feeling miserable about themselves.
Humans are just another species of animal, and they're one you will need to learn to like in order to be happy unless you plan to fend for yourself in the woods your whole life.
No matter whether or not you see yourself as human, humans are your peers, your family, and your community. They make the clothes you wear, grow the food you eat, and built the home you live in. Every book and movie, every song and painting, every craft supply and hiking trail and recipe you love was created by and for humans, or at minimum required human technology to create. You cannot escape that, and trying to reject everything around you because you hate your body will make you increasingly isolated, depressed, and angry.
Species dysphoria is a bitch, but it doesn't have to define you. You will grow into your human-shaped life, even if it doesn't feel like it right now. You will find ways of acting human you enjoy, and meet humans you love more than you ever thought was possible. You will sing and dance with them, build community with them, and in doing so will learn to love the human parts of yourself. You will learn that humans are just another animal, and no animal is inherently bad.
You can stop hurting yourself. You can build a human-shaped life you love. I promise.
I'll try and explain it as best as I can, any other archetropes out there feel free to add your own info!
An archetype is generally a motif or recurring set of characteristics, tropes, and roles used to describe a character, typically in literature, and tends to be universal (e.g the idea of the hero, the villain, the sidekick, the love interest, etc)
There are many different things that can be interpreted as archetypes (e.g Jungian archetypes, Tarot, Zodiac signs, etc) and many beings may create their own.
In terms of alterhumanity, an archetype is the archetype that someone identifies with or as---and they may refer to themselves as an archetrope. This archetype may shape things like their personality, career, hobbies, etc.
For example, I have an archetype I like to refer to as the green-eyed monster, which describes characters that are driven by feelings of envy and jealousy---often portrayed as villains that are corrupted by these feelings. Two characters that come to mind for me that fit this descriltion are Monika from DDLC and Ashfur from warrior cats, and I'm sure there are plenty more
TLDR: An archetype is a universally portrayed role, motif, or set of characteristics that someone may identify with or as
I started university today (horrifying but exciting experience) and one of the icebreaker questions was "If you were something not human, what would you be?" and my alterhuman ass just sat there like:
Hmm yes I wonder what *looks at my three theriotypes, three heart-types, three linktypes, one kintype, and two archetypes*
how did you make your mindmap? i want to make one but the art app i use would be a pain in the ass to make one with so wondering if you have any recommendations for the technical side of making it..... /nf
I used Google Slides to make the mindmap!
Originally I was going to use Milanote or Coggle, but neither allowed me to add lines and connections in the way that I wanted---though they could still be useful for you
There's definitely better tools out there than Slides, but it was the most accessible for me to use personally :3
The past few weeks have been a little confusing in terms of my alterhumanity, and I saw a few other beings making visual diagrams and mind maps explaining their identities, so I figured I'd try the same and it has been INCREDIBLY helpful!
I'm an odd mix of both keeping my alterhumanity vague and not worrying about labels while also wanting to dig deeper and understand the specifics, and this mind map thing I've made has helped me discover new things about myself while also confirming things I already knew.
It looks incredibly confusing at first because of all the connections, but now it's given me a clearer understanding of how all these different parts of me overlap and link to one another
beings who use "well im an animal and animals don't really care about those things" as an excuse for their shitty behaviors and morals are the worst methinks
The people around me always get confused when I don't baby talk animals like they do, and it's like, how do I explain to them that when I baby talk another animal it feels like the equivalent of going up to a grown adult human and baby talking them.
I, an adult cat, baby talking a theriform adult cat personally feels a little strange to me---but when it comes to kittens I'm happy to baby talk because at that point it becomes maternal instinct.
Ofc I speak quietly and gently to animals, but otherwise I speak to them like I would any human because in my mind we are equals. I'm an animal meeting another animal, of course I'm gonna react differently (though this is just my personal experience)
I've been doing a lot of questioning of my identity recently and getting into all the intricate details, and as a result I've realised that there's a bunch of oddly specific things I've come to associate with my alterhumanity---or things that directly link to my identities---so I figured I'd list them down for fun and future reference :3
🐾---------------------🐾
Things I Associate With My Alterhumanity:
- Earthy and dark colours (browns, greens, reds, etc)
- The smell of petrichor, smoke, and night time air
- Autumn/Fall
- The phrases "green with envy" and "green-eyed monster"
- Wind chimes and rain drums
- Humming and singing
- Superstitions
- The cold and the wind
- Golden hour
- Trenchcoats, capes, and other long/flowy garments
Petsitting as an alterhuman is so weird like wdym a coyote is feeding the bunnies and a cat is looking after another cat, like there's a sky kid in your house looking after your hamster hello???
