We’ve lived in this apartment for almost two years… which means my boyfriend has been bugging me to clean up this closet for……. about two years. I really wanted something that I could actually use to get ready.. not something that just stored my many (many) things. So.. because I can’t put any holes into the walls (we are renters) I had to get creative. The first thing I did was purchase five Sterilite three drawer units and organize all my makeup/skincare.
For me, it was easiest to write out 15 categories I wanted on post-its, put all of the units on the floor around me and play around with how I would put those categories together. This was much easier than putting things in and taking them back out 100 times (I can be pretty indecisive). After I had put the drawers on the shelves, I took apart my old shelving unit and installed a new one. I bought a bathroom towel rack because I felt it was perfect for the space that I had without taking up the entire closet (this way I can store things on the side).
Since the shelves were smaller than the canvas totes that I was using before, I had to find a new way to store curling irons, blow dryers etc. I found this really cute wire basket at Target that was perfect for the shelf above.
I then ran into the problem of storing small items on the shelves of the towel rack that I bought. The slats on the shelves were just wide enough that small perfume bottles didn’t store well and easily tipped over. I went to Lowe’s and bought a 12” x 72” plywood board and got it cut into five 12” x 14” rectangles.
I didn’t want the wood to be super thick so I chose the ¾” thickness but obviously, you can use whichever feels most comfortable! I then spray painted them a baby pink and sealed them so that any liquid spilled wouldn’t ruin the wood. I set everything up.. but still felt the shelf was missing something…
You know those wall clings? That have inspirational quotes that you can semi-permanently put on the wall? They apparently sell semi-permanent WALLPAPER… and it’s AMAZING. I found this rose gold print at target and papered the back wall of the closet making it appear less bland!! It looks amazing and takes the space to another level. Seriously. I hung up this super cute mirror that I also got at target. I threw in a mini vase for flowers and that’s it!
I literally feel so much more relaxed with all of that clutter gone! I can’t even describe how at ease my mind is! It’s crazy what a little Konmari method does to the soul!
I wanna see your beauty space!! Post your photos in the comments!!!!!
