I love explaining things to my mother. I had to explain why I was calling Sonic's SA2 shoes 'Soap shoes' and it basically went like this:

My mom: Why do you call them 'Soap shoes?'

Me: because that's what they are? They're based off an actual type of shoe mom. There are shoes out there that are made for grinding on rails while wearing them.

Mom:(doesn't believe me) you're making this up.

Me: Listen, the fanbase has been calling them Soap shoes for that reason. (Proceeds to look it up to prove a point and reads the result to her which is basically the same answer I gave her before, but being more specific, getting into the brand tie-in with SOAP and the brand being known for making shoes specifically intended for rail grinding)

Mom: Why do you know that? You're weird.

I love how the two things I've made a Sonic au for are currently Sonic being stuck hearing music constantly Post-Frontiers and Sonic being stuck with immortality due to shenanigans during SATBK

I've had the idea of an immortal Sonic au running through my brain for a while now and a new idea popped into improving it so I'm gonna ramble about it for a bit.

Basically the events follow Sonic during SATBK and during one of the fights against King Arthur (haven't decided on which one yet but let's say it's the second time they fight for now) Sonic stumbles enough that King Arthur goes for the attack while Sonic is left wide open. Due to the sheer force of the swing, a small chunk of Excalibur's scabbard breaks off (maybe one of the gem or another decorative piece that was loose prior) and goes flying, striking Sonic straight into the heart. Sonic while feeling pain for a brief bit, looks fine, nothing out of the ordinary to him, and the fight finishes with Sonic being the victor and the story of the game continues as normal.

After the fight, Sonic does notice that he seems to be healing a lot faster than he should, but he unfortunately has bigger problems to deal with. I think at some point before he fights Merlina he does realize that something is definitely wrong with him, probably due to him getting a fatal injury that he passes out from and waking up with no sign of him having the injury other than the blood that's coating his fur.

After he's declared to be the true King Arthur but before he heads home he asks Merlina to look him over and mentions the moment with him passing out and waking up fully healed, and Merlina probably finds magic similar to that of Excalibur's scabbard flowing through his heart, though the magic is noticably not as strong. Sonic asks if there is a way to remove it and Merlina tells him that only way to do that is to remove his heart, something that they both know would kill him.

Sonic gets sent home and hopes to find a better solution later, there's no way this can get worse right? Right?

The events of Sonic Colors come and go, and then Sonic Generations happens. Sonic and Classic go Super. They defeat the Time Eater. Everything goes back to normal. Except for him.

What Sonic doesn't know at this point is that due to going Super Sonic, it actually made it so that he's unable to ever lose his immortality, because the way the Chaos Emeralds interacted with the scabbard shard had it fuse with his heart, causing it's magic to spread throughout his bloodstream and strengthening the magic's effects.

I'm still working out the details of how Sonic would realize he can't get rid of his immortality but yeah. I'm having a lot of fun with this and will hopefully keep posting about it. Might make a fic out of it if I can.
