Embroidered Landscapes UK-based artist Victoria Rose Richards creates stunning landscapes through her aerial embroideries.
this has been a wasp psa
Yes! Wasps are nice bugs, too!
I agree with the sentiment of this posts (most stinging bugs won't bother you unless you bother them, and pollinators need to be respected!) but yellowjackets absolutely will just land on you and bite you for no good reason.
My friend was stocking the drink case at the cafe I used to work at, which was open to the outside. A yellowjacket flew over, landed on her arm, bit her on the arm, and then flew away. Lil' asshole.

Somebody: If you have trouble remembering things use sticky notes! set an alarm! Make a schedule on a whiteboard, it all works!
My adhd brain: You don’t need to pay any more attention to that alarm or the sticky note anymore, it’s not new. It’s part of the environment and is just there because. There is nothing standout or noticeable about it so you don’t need to read it.
I'm sure this is worse for folks with ADHD, but one of the women in the facilities department at my old job was frustrated because people were leaving the back door to the patio open, which is a safety hazard (we had issues with theft previously).
She was complaining about it, and my coworkers and I asked why she didn't just make a sign to put directly on the door. She told us that people get "sign fatigue" - that is, signs work initially, but as soon as your brain starts thinking of it as just another part of the environment you stop seeing/paying attention to them, and the behavior begins again. This is a very real phenomenon!
At the same job, my coworkers and I kept forgetting to put our reagents back in the freezer at the end of the day. We made a Google calendar event to remind us every day to put them away. Same thing, it worked at first, but eventually our brains just assimilated the event notification into the litany of notifications that one ignores over the day, and it stopped working.
Human brains are really good at assimilating and then ignoring unimportant stimuli, which is generally a good thing, except that it doesn't always do a good job of deciding which stimuli is "important."

Hey everyone! I created this pdf cookbook (full of recipes crowdsourced from friends/acquaintances) to benefit the Anti Police-Terror Project and The Okra Project (the former is a black-led organization working to defund the Oakland police department, among other things, and The Okra Project provides home-cooked, nutritious, culturally-specific meals to black trans folks). The suggested donation for the book is $7, but feel free to give what you can/wish. I didn't want to put it behind a paywall, so if you are not in a position to donate at this time, you can still access the pdf.
The book + the link to donate can be found here:
Please like/reblog! And if you make anything from the cookbook, please tag me because I'd love to see it :)
