A good while ago I guess some followers of mine got into Secret Saturdays because my old Saturday works got notes and I saw a couple of people saying “I didn’t know NotNights watched this.” Just not that long ago those old drawings got notes too. They get them now and again reminding that I used to adore the series. I even have a Zak action figure haha. I don’t think I ever got to finish watching it unfortunately. When I have the time I’ll have to sit and watch it all. I decided to draw Zak using that figure as reference. I accidentally drew the claw upside down. Back when I drew fanart for the series, at the time the tags were full of nsfw and the tumblr update to hide more explicit things hadn’t yet happened I don’t think (same with Ben 10 tags? Weird). I surely hope it’s improved though.

Do you ever think about the fact that Zak is probably the first person in Doyle’s life that’s ever looked up to him? That thought he was more than just a delinquent or rugged mercenary? When Drew realizes he’s her brother Zak’s immediate reaction is “Cool, I have a really awesome uncle that can teach me how to do dangerous stuff!” 

When they have their underwater dispute in “Van Rook’s Apprentice” Zak doesn’t try to insinuate that Doyle is a bad person for working with Van Rook and Argost. Instead, he tries to convince him to stop working for the bad guys by telling him Argost’s true intentions. At first it seems Doyle doesn’t really care (”I don’t ask questions from the guy with the money”) and I still laugh when Zak’s like “Wait, I think I was getting through to him!” but like…he kinda did considering Doyle went into Van Rook’s files and decided he wasn’t going to help Argost anymore. 

Maybe it’s because he’s an innocent kid (before season two ouch) or maybe he’s just got a heart of gold but Zak immediately, without a single hesitation, believed Doyle was a good person and embraced him as part of the family. The fact that Doyle saved him during their last encounter is enough for him. Zak’s the one that sticks up for him against his parents and tells him he doesn’t have to be alone anymore.

This eleven-year-old is the one that says (and I quote) “We’ve all made mistakes but we have to forgive each other. That’s part of being a family.“

Do you ever think about the fact that the Saturdays value family arguably more than anything and family is something Doyle has wanted his entire life?

The more I think about a crossover au the more I’m convinced the Saturdays and the Chaus would be mortal enemies. The Saturdays are scientists who specialize in conservation and keeping cryptid stuff in check so it doesn’t destroy the world. The Chaus are dark magic daoist priests who sell stuff on the black market and tamper with magic they don’t understand. There are no aligning goals here.

I’d imagine Doc and Drew interacted with Moonie and Peng at least once before the Robes Incident™️. They were going after the same artifact (not the robes though) and got into a nasty fight that ended with the Chaus succeeding and getting away. After some time of them not surfacing again, the Saturdays would probably assume they retired or went somewhere else. They have no way to know and no need to check. And they really need to pay attention to the kur stone and the problems associated with it.

They’d probably be neutral with Flora. She doesn’t dabble in dark magic much and her career is mostly focused on returning magical artifacts to their rightful owners (most of the time). She’d be more of an informant than a coworker, and they’d probably clash occasionally over moral differences. But they don’t really know each other so they have no real reason to reach out. So they aren’t aware of her traveling around the world to find mystic weapons to kill her arch nemesis.

Ofc when they find out she messed around with a magic nuke and grafted it to a baby they’ll be livid. How can someone be so stupid. That is the worst thing you can possibly do with a nuke. Holy shit. This is so much worse than Kur, because that was at least 1: an accident and 2: Zak’s not liable to blow shit up whenever he’s upset.

Jentry is gonna be the only Chau they’re cool with. If anyone understands how dangerous magic is it’s her. She doesn’t want to antagonise any gods/cryptids or steal shit. And she and Zak can bond over having powers “doomed to bring the mortal realm to ruin” or whatever.

Since Flora’s dead and a ghost they’d probably take custody. If anyone is qualified to deal with an emotional teenager with fire powers it’s the scientists dedicated to investigating the supernatural. Also she’d think Fisk is cute
