I am what is referred to as a millennial. I'm a nearly 23 year old woman that loves stereotypical things like Netflix, my iPhone, craft beer, and vinyl records. I do not, however, follow these stereotyped ideas of what millennials are like: being a narcissist, believing that things should come to me without hard work, or that I hate my country. On the very contrary, I love my country and I think that we have the capacity for greatness. That's why on Tuesday I exercised my right to vote. Since then I have felt a slew of mixed emotions, like many people.
That is why my simple good the past few days has been women supporting each other. After a day at school talking through my worries with all of my friends, I looked at the items I had hanging in my rearview mirror. I have a button I acquired at my Alma Mater Iowa State University, an air freshener of the feminist icon Tina Belcher (I love me some Bob's Burgers), a button that I got attending an event representing The Simple Good which says "Women Together", and this little owl that has the words "kindness matters". I smiled at these mementos that represent my life, my beliefs, and my interests. I have surrounded myself with strong women who support me, believe in me, and are the kindest people I know. I've gained the best support group of women through my family, my undergraduate career, and now through my graduate school cohort at Adler University. I smiled because I was reminded that there is always still good within the perceived bad.
There are things that we all still see as good regardless of political creed. Not only is it important to recognize those collective goods, but it is also so important during these times of division to come together, especially as women.
So let us not forget: women win when we uplift each other, women win when we support and fight for each other. And not only do women win, but humanity wins when we listen to each other and respect each other. I hold all of these things to be true. But I believe above all, that humanity wins when we are kind to each other despite our differences.

I plan on using my meaning of simple good to improve my community by continuing to let there be peace and hope. This is important to me because if I didn't have peace I am unable to be myself, and if I am not myself, I don't have hope or confidence.”

Today's simple good: Hong Kong Hot Pot Hong Kong The simple good to me is food. Hot pot has become one of my favorite foods ever and I've been eating it for a little over a year. Here in China, it's a popular cuisine that had specialties from different regions such as Sichuan, Beijing and Jiangsu. Here in the picture this is Hong Kong Hot Pot. Connectivity and union. Yesterday was the first time we brought together students from the South Side and West Sides of Chicago to present on their meaning of 'the simple good.'
