ppl who celebrate fictional character birthdays are annoying pass it on
FUCK this post and happy birthday sonic
I think one of the kindest things you can do for people with various mental health struggles is just... let people back into your life after they've been absent for a while.
Making friends as an adult is so fucking hard already and isolating yourself from other people is a very common symptom of depression, anxiety, burnout, ocd, trauma, grief, etc. Which means that someone will do the hard work of recovery/healing and resurface back into a world where their previous friends have written them off because they stopped showing up.
So if you know someone where you're like "yeah we could have been better friends but they fell off the map a bit" and that person suddenly reaches out, or starts showing up to events even though you kind of forgot they were still in the group chat... well they may have been Going Through It and you don't actually have to punish them for their absence you can just be glad that they're back.
the unbreakable connection between me and a song I heard in a fanvid over ten years ago
I am actually begging some people to just let some spaces exist untouched by real-world issues and horrors.
Like I've lost count of the amount of times peaceful game or fandom servers have been ruined by people stampeding in with political rants, bitching about world issues, demanding internal activism, demanding vent channels so they can whine about their shitty parents, ect.
Like. Respectfully. Not every single space has to be inclusive of and welcoming of outside topics. The real world sucks. We don't needed to be reminded of that absolutely everywhere.
Psychologists have talked about this extensively. In order to repair the damage caused by the stressors of life, your brain needs to have down time in which it is not being stressed. It needs to be able to turn off sometimes and turn down during others. That's how your brain processes stress enough to regulate cortisol production and let you get through whatever it is without being on-edge the entire time, all of the time.
At some point we will, as a society, have to unlearn this idea that if you're ever caught not thinking about something serious, you must not give a shit about others. Your mind is not designed to constantly be stressed.
Your body also isn't, btw - prolonged stress without breaks is linked to all kinds of cardiac problems.
Not only will it not kill you to let the Pokemon Unite server or Naruto/Sasuke server just be about Pokemon Unite or NaruSasu, it would actually benefit you to do so.
If you won't let a place be peaceful for someone else's sake, at least do it for your own.
i don’t think i’ll ever get over the fact that cornelia street and the smallest man who ever lived are about the same person
The peacock. The music. The person leaping over a tombstone. The cemetery. It just works.
“GRAVE PEACOCKING” IM DEAD
Great post everyone

“100 companies carbon blah blah I’m gonna do whatever I want” is the new climate change denial.
In her book Fixation, Sandra Goldmark has a quote that I really admire. She talks about how the ultra wealthy and oil corps are primarily responsible for destroying the planet, so why bother doing anything for the environment?
“because not taking these actions -individually- is even more ludicrous; it denies each of us a place in the world. If our actions are part of the problem, then they must be part of the solution.”
She then quotes Jonathan Safran Foer:
“the ways we live our lives, the actions we take and don’t take, can feed the systemic problems, and they can also change them. Both macro and micro actions have power, and when it comes to mitigating our planetary destruction, it is unethical to dismiss either, or to proclaim that because the large cannot be achieved, the small should not be attempted.”
Ultimately it’s a matter of personal integrity; if you truly believe pollution and overconsumption aren’t good things you’ll want to keep your actions aligned with this belief to the extent that you can, reduce your contribution to these problems even if you know it has a negligible impact. “My individual behaviour is a drop in the ocean so why should I bother trying to live in accordance with my deeply held values” would be a weird mentality.
‘My life amounts to no more than one drop in a limitless ocean. Yet what is any ocean, but a multitude of drops?’
- David Mitchell
How do you sort your books?
Color
Title
Author
Publication Date
Other
Multiple people have said VIBES and my brain is actually melting.
I'm so confused that "by subject" isn't one of the basic choices.
You know, you have your shelf of gay books, your shelf of Jewish books, your shelf of gay Jewish books, your shelf of art books, your shelf of Scion RPG books, your shelf of Chronicles of Darkness RPG books, your shelf of the RPG books you wrote on or backed on Kickstarter but never play because you only play CofD and Scion, your shelf of comics trades, your shelf of gay comics, and miscellaneous.
Exactly what I was saying! Subject/genre is, I thought, one of the main ways of doing it???
I'm just so proud of everyone who has actually gotten their books up on shelves instead of rifling through the boxes I thought I put those books in when I moved house. Last year.
how does anyone sort their books by anything other than author or title? where you put a book that could be considered to be a part of multiple subjects
dark academia (sitting in one place so long the library's motion-sensitive lights have turned off)
saying “can u not” to inanimate objects that are just following the laws of physics but in, like, inconvenient ways
Nothing gives the same kind of random ego boost like managing to finally clean up your home and making it nice. Like ooh look at me, I'm living like people do, I made myself iced tea and I am eating my snack from a real plate. I got floors and shit.
oh damn, okay, so literally last night i was talking with friends about how unrealistic the golden horse in tears of the kingdom is and how it feels like they were just trying to one-up the white horse in breath of the wild, and then i run across this post, do a tiny bit of looking, and—no really gold horses are actually literally a real-world thing!
I remember reading about this breed in horse books. They're indeed very very old (over 3000 years old) and come from the deserts in turkmenistan. The way their hair is built helps them with the extreme temperature changes in the desert.
They're tough, with high endurance and intelligence, friendly and sensitive.
Oh my god if 8 year old me had known about this it would have been OVER
i'm sorry there's a video game where there are pig and lizard monsters, flying eyeballs, time travel, magical powers, and the physical manifestation of pure evil, and the unrealistic thing that bothers you is the golden horse????
