I need help!
Onyx seems to have gotten fin rot again (unless he’s biting at his fins?) and I’ve been trying to treat it for over a week now with no luck. He got a fresh water change two days ago, since his old water was getting a bit dirty. I’m hoping this will help as well as treating him with API Melafix, but if anyone knows about anything that could be better please let me know! I hate seeing him look so poor.
Alright, so first off, it kind like it’s a good possibility of a mix of finrot and finbiting. You mentioned his water was getting dirty, do you test the parameters?
Second off, melafix (and bettafix) advertise themselves as a cure all, but they’re tea tree oil which is an antiseptic. It keeps the wounds clean but doesn’t really do anything else, and finrot is a bacterial infection! Tea tree oil is also debated hotly to cause damage to betta’s labyrinth organ, but I haven’t actually seen any proof, just that it’s controversal.
I’m a big fan of not medicating for fin rot, it almost always goes away on its own with the right conditions. Can you tell me a bit more about your setup?
Anyone in fisher wanna be pen pals? (Over 18 please!)
When I get into my new project and start keeping I’ll probably make a new blog but until then I’ll stay here
aah so my cory has a swim bladder infection and i’m not sure what to do bc the treatment i have isn’t tested with shrimp and i’ve got some since i last needed to use it and also i’d have to practically take apart my filter for it to work bc of the carbon in it so idk if i should medicate or not :((
Heyo I’m pretty good at diagnosing and treatment, can you describe what’s going on a little better? Swim bladder infection makes me thing of the thing that bothers Bettas and goldfish where they’re floaty- is that what’s going on? Or is it other symptoms? What’s your setup like?
Any recommendation for pond/box filters? I’m looking for something that’s high GPH for a 170g goldfish pond I’m going to be setting up this year!
I’m honestly really leaning towards the urn filter on amazon, it’s basically a HOB which is like. Easy for me to get and has lots of space for media

I’m so excited to be able to have fish and be a part of this community again 💖
Bear is very curious about the new baby mystery snail.
Would anyone be interested in adopting a school of sterbai cities and four harlequin rasboras? If you live in SoCal we may be able to arrange you having their tank as well!
Rehoming fee maybe depends on shipping but honestly I just want them to go a good home
I used to love bettas but now I love goldfish oops

Me:
Man I continue to be disappointed with Joey on YouTube.
List of things I have regretting buying/doing because they were popular with fishblr at the time of me doing it
Feel free to add on
-divided tanks
-halfmoon bettas
-that goddam 5.5 topfin kit that always leaks no matter what you do
-sponge filters for E V E R Y T H I N G (this just in I really loathe sponge filters now)
-hydor theo heaters. Goddamn.
-dirtied tanks
-any petco/petsmart ornament. The paint bubbles and flakes off on all of them. All of them.

Yeah, Hydor Theos have gone down in quality like…ridiculously within the last year or so. I don’t understand what changed or why they’re such garbage now but lo and behold they’re trash that will cook your fish to death!
I will never use a heater again, I got so tired of 4 of them nearly cooking my fish.
Sure….It means I won’t be able to have any of the really “exotic” tropical fish but who cares.
I still really like half moon bettas tho and double/rose tails. They deserve the same chance at at a good life as others like plakats I just won’t even breed them. I am fond of sponge filters tho- but that’s because I like shrimp tanks and basically any kind of flow on those could suck up shrimplets and cause problems.
divided tanks are okay- for things like guppies. Where the holes in the dividers are small enough that the males can’t get to the females but you still have water flow so it’s just a “no sex for you” barrier. (or maybe it’s just divided to keep really small fry away from adults?)
But as someone who had a betta jump a divider before to maul the other betta he was sharing a tank with…..no.
Oh yeah I would never use anything but sponge or highly baffled filters for shrimp, they're so wee
And for heavily finned fish they're useful too
But other than that they have little to one mechanical filtration, the low flow creates a great environment for algae to take over, once you get algae on it, you're done. You're always going to have algae because you can't bleach dip your media, you can't boil it, and scraping it off doesn't work.
Plus I hate how misleading everyone is like "sponge filters are super cheap!" Yeah sure if you already got the air pump :/ after the cost of the airline tubing and the air pump and the sponge filter itself you're better off getting an adjustable HOB or a gentle internal filter
