A lot of old (1950s-60s) cartoons had a bit where a character would be forced to swallow a spoonful of castor oil as punishment. Years later I learn that castor oil is a powerful laxative.

Asking from one history major to another do you ever think about how people will study what I call in my head the "Late American Empire period"? I know your focus wasn't the US, mine wasn't either, but I've been thinking about it a lot recently and wondered if other history people were, too.

i think abt it so much tbh… like from the perspective of a historian this is such a textbook late empire situation. it’s so weird when you’re living in a time you know is probably going to be analyzed for centuries because in hindsight it’ll all fit together so much more clearly than most people can see right now. besides history-brained people bc we’re always the canaries in the coal mine when it comes to shit like this. and nobody ever listens 😕
