All of the elemental lair scenes for Flight Rising, together! This was a hell of a project, and you can really see where I learned as I went. There's a lot I'd go back and change if I could still but overall I'm super happy with these and so glad to get the opportunity
The Training Dummy
If you were to look at the IDs of the Coliseum enemies, you'd realize there's no enemy associated with the ID 83. However, if you were to change the ID of an enemy image to 83, you'd get represented with this wooden totem.
The exact purpose of this enemy is unknown, but many theorize that it's an unused training dummy. The dummy was discovered in 2021.
Points, Ghost and Magpie: The genes that took years to come
In a video uploaded September 13th, 2012, a ton of genes were teased. All of these genes ended up being available on site launch, with two notable exceptions: the tertiary genes Ghost and Points
Ghost (and Magpie)
Ghost was teased as a gene that created a skull marking on the head of a dragon, a gradient down the neck of a dragon and a few splotches of color on a dragon's wings with a slight gradient
Image from the Flight Rising Wiki of the version of Ghost presented in the September 2012 preview video
Ghost would not release until February 12th, 2018. The release gene creates skeletal markings all over the body of a dragon and lacks gradients.
Then on May 13th, 2026, the tertiary gene Magpie released. The gene is likely a redesign of the wing gradients of 2012's version of ghost. They're very similar, but not 1 to 1.
The fact this post released on the same day magpie dropped is coincidence. This was scheduled almost a week in advance and of course magpie dropped about 10 minutes before this post was scheduled to go up.
Points
Points was teased as a gene that added fades to the points of a dragon - those being the muzzle, ears, top of wings, tail and the bottom of the legs. Similar points of coloration are found in real animals, notably in siamese cats
Image from the Flight Rising Wiki of the version of Points presented in the September 2012 preview video
Points finally released on October 10th, 2022, over ten years since it was teased. In the final version, the color coverage on all areas was extended.
So, what took so long?
Quite honestly, we don't know. It is worth noting that in the beginning, genes had be recolored by hand. Now, (most) genes are colored using a recolor engine and a base template with sections marking where each color should go.

Since the colors had to be done by hand and gradients can be finicky, even in a good art program, the decision may have been made that it wasn't worth the effort at the time, since the original plan was to have them obtainable using features outside of the marketplaces, which weren't implemented at the time (notably Ghost was supposed to obtainable from Baldwin's Bubbling Brew). In the end, both ending up being purchasable in the treasure marketplace
Undel on when Ghost and Points would be released
Today, the wait for ghost and points is still joked about by those who remember and all players now have access to these genes.
Baldwin and the Bogsneak Mutagen
Before Bogsneaks were a thing, Baldwin was a pearlcatcher.
On September 14th, 2016, something strange began to happen to Baldwin. Over the next 5 days, Baldwin began to slowly transform into something new...

On September 19th, 2016. It was revealed that Baldwin had morphed into a new breed: The Bogsneak. On that day, Baldwin's transformation completed and his art depicted him in a new pose, completely transformed

As part of the release, a story was called "The Bogsneak Mutagen" to discuss how exactly Baldwin created a new breed of dragons.
Banner of the bogsneak release announcement
Due to the fact that Baldwin had created the Bogsneaks, Bogsneaks became the first breed unaffiliated with any particular flight and many users joked that Baldwin was a deity because he'd created an entire new breed, a feat only previously achieved by deities.
Bogsneaks remained the only breed unaffiliated with a flight until the release of Thorntails on November 13th, 2025. As of writing, there's no explanation on why Thorntails are unassociated with any flight.
All Baldwin images are from the flight rising wiki.
I can't believe I forgot to mention this, but Baldwin still has his pearl! It's found on the shelf on the Creat New Items page of Baldwin's Bubbling Brew!

Scrolls of Divorce, Resurrection + other reject items
As with any game, not everything conceptualized actually made it too release. There's 4 known items that didn't make it to release: the Scroll of Divorce, the Scroll of Resurrection, the Double Scratch Battle Stone, and the Harmony Battle Stone
The Scroll of Divorce
Yes, you heard that right. Pre-release, dragons were monogamous. If you wanted to mate a dragon with another dragon but one dragon already had a mate, you would have had to go to the marketplace and buy a scroll of divorce. (Disclaimer: It's unclear how the scroll of divorce would have been obtained but this is a funny image in my head)
The Scroll of Resurrection
In the alpha, dragons could also die. It's unclear how they could die (I would assume age because that's pretty common for pet sites where pets can die), but if you wanted to resurrect them, you had to use this scroll.
Double Scratch
"A low damage attack that performs two rapid hits that generate breath. The second hit isn't as powerful as the first, but it still stings!"
Prior to release, there was a version of scratch that was well, double scratch. It was actually in the game on release until September 2014, but it was never obtainable. The item's ID was #764. A file was also left in the game files believed to be the animation for double scratch.
Harmony
"The caster will focus on the surrounding magical energies, generating a large amount of breath for itself and a small amount of breath for its companions."
Like it's other unreleased companion, it was also still in the game files on release until September 2014, but was never obtainable. It's item ID was #765. A file was also left in the game files believed to be the animation for harmony.
Notably, both stones can be seen in a screenshot on the Coliseum Battle Encyclopedia page
There was a post by Undel that talked a little bit more about them, but Undel accidentally nuked her Tumblr so that's currently lost to time.
All images (aside from the last one) + info is from the flight rising wiki!
one of my silly fr ideas is that there is no evidence for domesticated cattle (they get dairy from snakes) but there is evidence for the existence of a cowboy-adjacent culture (highnoon sets, some other stuff?) so. chicken farming works exactly like the mid 1800s american beef industry. chicken herders on the open range. lassooing them.
#wait sorry can you elaborate on the snakes part#i'm all for this but Huh (via @azurebolt-fr)
These drop from buttersnakes in the coli, and are to my knowledge the only dairy-based food items on the site.
The only bovine familiars are the Tauruses (made of water) and Ophiotauruses (reptilian).
I can draw no other conclusion but that we're milking the snakes.
Some headshot sketches of a few of my dragons to get past a block
Hatchlings have two types....

Hey! Spin this Wheel of every Flight Rising Familiar there is (as of right now)!
This Familiar now lives with you in your regular real-life as a pet (if non-sapient) or a roommate (if sapient). Everything else about your life remains unchanged.
How do feel about this development?

Welp, I’m pretty sure I’m dead
I don’t think I’m going to die but this IS going to be Extremely Miserable
from a few months ago. pulled one of my old dragons out of my den and gave him a new look! and then got carried away oops
I have made a wing theme for each dragon class resource for people to use freely on Flightrising.com I’m hoping i can expand these into different types and other creatures.
Enjoy!
Very polite lady, dont mind the spear- look at how nice her smile is :)
