My mom and I were discussing HTTYD over dinner and she came up with a scenario where Valka and her grandson, Stoick were playing hide and seek and she breaks down because she forgets which Stoick she’s looking for.

The dragon gave a playful gurgle, throat vibrating in his form of laughter. In his claws, he held Valka’s staff. Was he about to give it back like the woman requested? Not without a little chase. So instead, the beast remained hanging from the vines growing on the basalt columns, bright eyes twinkling at his rider as he waited for her to move.

"Come on, Coudjumper." She dashed to the column and scrambled up towards the stormcutter, sure he would bounceaway from her the moment she got close enough. Considering she was a good climber, but the vines weren’t supplying good handholds, she was making her way up, just not as quick as she’d like.

His antlered head tilted inquisitively, watching the woman's progress. Muscles tensed beneath him before he allowed his wings to unfurl. However, he let them hang for a moment, an action meant to tease before he took off with a great gust of air and circled down to where Valka had stood before.

"Leave me behind."

No.

The dragon gave a savage growl, lips curling back in his displeasure of the command. Pacing forward, he loomed over the smaller dragon. I will not do that.

An arrow whizzed by, embedding deep into the snow, and the black dragon leaped away from it in shock. The vikings were even closer now.

He turned his head to watch the other dragon take to the sky, eyes full of longing, missing such freedom. A split second before he folded his wings tightly and awaited the other dragons hold to wrap around him.

Yeah… He didn’t sound like he liked it, though what dragon would!? He was proud and powerful and full grown, yet was reduced to being carried like a chick again. Still, there was no other choice.

Pupils shrank to slits, mouth curling in a snarl at the weapon. At Toothless’ agreement, the larger dragon tightened his grip to hold the smaller, careful to not be too tight. His double set of wings sliced through the chill air to carry the pair away.

Mighty antlers swung as the dragon swiveled his head to look behind, carefully observing the approach of the vikings. More arrows were flying through the air and one found pierced Cloudjumper's right rear wing. He barked at the pain, unharmed wings beating even faster to escape.

"I need a hug."

Cloudjumper cocked his head to side, examining the small creature who’d spoken. A seemingly benign little thing, and in distress. Now, who was he to deny such a thing? The dragon settled down on his side, curled in towards his belly. He raised a single wing as an invitation for the little male.

"Explain yourself." (Also hello there!)

Explain himself? To this human? Absurd. Dragons had no need to do such a thing. Golden eyes narrowed at the male, contemplating that simple demand. With a snort, the dragon sat back on his haunches, casting down an imperious look.
