My headcanon is that Swiss had to retire because his insomnia had got so bad that he ended up being so tired he couldn't work properly at times.
At rituals he was running on adrenaline pure and it exhausted him so bad he passed out after it.
So it's Copia who finally cuts it after Dew and Phantom call him, since they really don't want Swiss to hurt himself. At the ministry the former band ghouls start to work with him, since Omega suspects his insomnia is caused by stress, but also because the multi still isn't able to completely work with all his elements, yet.
It's just that Swiss knows how to do stuff with every of them, but he never actually tries to be at ease with them. And that has finally backfired.

Have you ever looked closely at a car windshield?
The edge of the glass is painted where it is glued to the car but it has these small dots between the clear and painted glass.
These are there for a reason. When the sun hits the glass the painted areas and the clear areas will absorb heat at different rates. This causes the glass to expand and contract differently putting stress on the glass.
These dots help the glass to warm up more evenly over a larger area so the glass does not suffer stress that could cause it to spontaneously explode.
Fun fact: the Tesla cybertruck doesn’t have these.
