So it has definitly been a while since the last time I posted. But It’s because my semester abroad in London is coming to an end and I’ve been preparing for finals. But I finish my finals this week which means a lot of NEW POST.

The App I Use to Help Me Destress

Life can get really stressful when you’re a full time student, working part-time and doing an internship. This was the story of my life last semester and I felt like I was constantly drowning in work or my own endless stream of thoughts.

Stress can prevent you from thinking clearly and being able to make the most out your day. For me it was constantly an uphill battle that just seemed to get steeper and steeper. But recently I came across an app called Headspace. This app allows you to just plug in your headphones and have a quick meditation session wherever you are. The app offers a number of meditation styles to help with things like stress, sleep, panicking and when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

I try to use the app when I first wake up. If I’m short on time I’ll do a 3 minute session, but I also have the option of 5 and 10 minute sessions. Now, they say the good things in life are free but this app does come with a cost. The first 10 sessions are free and after that you can join for $12.99 a month.

In addition to using this app it is important to include a regular workout regime and a healthy diet. All of these things go a long way when trying to reduce stress.

What a Giorgio Armani Event Taught Me

Currently I am studying in London, as well as working as an editorial intern for a family magazine. Last week my boss emailed me the press events I could cover that week for the magazine. We tend to get invited to a little of everything from plays, book releases and one of my personal favorites fashion events.

Now, I have attended fashion events on behalf of the magazine before, but none of the brands were what I would consider high end. Until, I received the invitation to attend the Giorgio Armani press day for their Fall/Winter 2018 Collection. I believe I reread the invitation about 3 times because I was the definition of “shook.”

Going into the event I had no idea what to expect and I was expected to cover the entire thing on my own. Upon arrival to the office I felt intimidated, I felt scared and I questioned if I would embarrass myself or, worse, the magazine. I had just came from class and I felt like the “new girl” on the block. Everyone that was there spoke to those they knew and it seemed to be more of a socializing event then it did a fashion event.

I did manage to have a good conversation with the women who is in charge of PR for Giorgio Armani. But who I talked to and what I wore is not the point of me writing this. Attending this event will forever be engrained in my memory because it taught me a number of lessons.

Lesson #1: You define your own definition of fashion. Fashion is FLUID.

Lesson #2: Always have business cards and be prepared to network

Lesson #3: Take on every challenge with your head held high and shoulders back because no matter what happens there is always something to gain from every situation.

Lesson #4: If you were assigned an assignment it was because someone had faith that you were well equipped to complete the task. So cut yourself some slack and trust yourself.
