Iâm not a big fan of how in many tomarry fics Harryâs character suffers in favour of making Tom Riddle seem cool.
Like yâall. I donât care how much of an overachieving genius Tom was, that man is canonically a patchwork of the worst character flaws anyone could ever have. I love him because he is a loser. He is beautiful and smart and over-emotional and egotistic and cruel and antisocial and it ruins his life.
Fics tend to write Harry as surly and reacting with anger, but in canon the only time we see him genuinely get angry after all the shit heâs been through is 1) when he has to deal with Umbridge, and 2) after Sirius dies at the Ministry. Iâd go so far as to say that he is less emotional than Tom.
Harryâs levels of idgaf are so unapologetically high that he literally sees no point in pandering or lying to anyone about anything. He goes to formal networking events with outcasts, breaks rules on the regular, blows up his aunt because she pissed him off, casually murders his DADA professors on a Tuesday afternoon⊠he literally asked the Minister for Magic to sign his Hogsmeade permission form and crucioâd a Death Eater for spitting on McGonagall.
Thereâs no realistic scenario where Harry James Potter would be submissive or overly insecure.
Tomâs too self-conscious about preserving his reputation and people respecting him to actually be himself. His ego is a castle of cards, dependent entirely on his Slytherin heritage, his high grades, and his utter lack of scruples. If any of those are cast into doubt, he loses his temper and becomes completely unhinged.

A scene that keeps on appearing in my mind since going through contestshipping fanfics is just; Solidad, Harley and Drew meeting the Manaphy from the movie but in said first meeting Manaphy gets spooked and bodyswaps them all like it did with Ash and Jakie so you end up having Manaphy being held by May, who is in Drew's body watching all the chaos unfold with Harley having a meltdown in Solidad's body, shaking a still shellshocked Drew in May's body, and then there's Solidad screaming inside but trying to keeping it together because there a honest to Arceus Manaphy in the room that talks and keeps squishing May's face.
Meanwhile Manaphy is happy to see May and is all too curious of the boy with green hair.

please read this even if you're not indian. especially if you're not indian.
you've seen the jokes. india is "dirty", indians are "everywhere", why don't they fix their own country. ok. let me tell you why, and what's happening right now while nobody's watching.
first, the history you skipped: britain ruled india for two centuries and drained it. economist utsa patnaik's research estimates around $45 trillion in today's money was taken. the india that got independence in 1947 was one of the poorest countries on earth. every "why is india like this" question starts there. you don't get to profit off a robbery and then mock the crime scene.
now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:
in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.
and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:
âą infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.
âą youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.
âą only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.
âą manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.
âą journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.
âą even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.
and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.
what i'm asking:
if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.
if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.
india is not "dirty". india was robbed, and it's being robbed again, from the inside this time. but it's also the country where a 59 year old will starve for strangers' kids and 22 million young people will rally behind a party literally named after cockroaches, because cockroaches survive everything.
we can still save her. but only loudly.

Why do I feel empathy for the most ridiculous things. Like it's different to feel sad when seeing an old person doing something or sitting alone but why do I feel a strong urge to hug whatever this is
Why is it crying so much? Why is it so distressed? Someone please give it some milk so it would shut up.

People horrifically fucking up facts about evolution and genetics too support their stupid beliefs or to seem smart and ârationalâ is probably one of my big pet peevesÂ
Yeah. An enormous number of racists, misogynists, homophobes and transphobes Iâve met eventually whip out something about evolutionary biology and they never, ever, ever, ever have the slightest shadow of even a half-right idea what any of it means or ever cite a claim ever actually made by a scientific study.
Hereâs a quick handy reference list or anyone who isnât sure:
Homosexuality does exist in almost all social species.
âAlpha malesâ are not a real phenomenon and in fact the most aggressive males tend to be the least reproductively successful.
âSurvival of the fittestâ simply means that the success of a species hinges on how well it âfitsâ its environment. It does not mean that stronger or smarter individuals are supposed to succeed. Those things can even be a detriment in nature by wasting too many resources.
âRaceâ is not a biological concept. Someone who looks different from you has the same human genes, just a different grab-bag of dominant traits.
Evolution is not a march towards higher complexity, more intelligence or even more adaptability. Itâs just a fluctuation of characteristics dictated by environmental pressures and mutation. A slime mold isnât âless evolvedâ than a hawk, just adapted for success under different parameters.
People didnât evolve âfrom apes.â Itâs more complicated than that. We are a category of ape, sharing a common ancestor with the other apes.
No human on Earth is âcloserâ to an evolutionary ancestor than any other. We all descended from the same one.
Neanderthals were also a âsiblingâ species of ours. We didnât evolve from them.
Some of us did, however, cross-breed with Neandethal man. It is exclusively non-African races, such as white people, who still carry hybrid human/Neanderthal genes. Whoops, sorry âwhite purityâ skinheads, youâre actually mixed with a whole other species.
Some more stuff!
Humans are actually more genetically homogeneous than most people suspect. This is possibly due to a population bottleneck at some point in our evolutionary past. Two chimpanzees from different sides of a jungle are likely more genetically different to each other than any two human beings in the world.
Our big brains may help us use tools, but what was really principal in their development was the need for empathy, communication, and cooperation.
Humans. Are. Social. So social it drove an incredibly energetically costly increase in our brain size. Donât believe anyone who says its our nature to fight âevery man for themself.â Weâre humans, not bears. We fight for each other.
And we always have. Fossil remains are found of ancient humans who bore signs of crucial mobility impairments that lived to notable ages. Some even have sticks or other mobility aids â community care and support is our way. We donât cast off those with impairments, we stand by them.
Human sexual dimorphism is on a decreasing trend. Our ancestors had greater difference in canine size and overall size. Our dimorphism gap has gotten smaller.
Occamâs razor is the principal that whatever is the simplest explanation is probably the most likely one. Donât believe someone who says the reason we evolved bipedalism is so that males could carry gifts to females to woo them. Yes, this is a real âtheoryâ on how bipedalism evolved.
Skin tone is an adaptation of UV levels vs vitamin D levels. Both come from the sun. UV is harmful, so where sun is plentiful populations develop a darker skin tone for more protection. The skin needs sun to create vitamin D, so where sun is scarce, the skin tone lightens to allow more sun in. This is literally all it is.
Final thing: No oneâs mind is really equipped to fully understand how long a billion years is, or a million, or even tens of thousands of years. Evolution takes place over a loooong time. Its very, very, slow, slower than we can really comprehend. We canât âstand in the wayâ of natural selection by caring for our ill. We donât need to âhelpâ evolution in any way. It inevitably happens, but not on any sort of timescale we could possibly affect, so donât fall for anyone that tells you not to âstand in the wayâ of natural selection. Thatâs fascism, and its utterly pseudo-scientific.
Not to mention natural selection doesnât have a âwillâ that you can stand in the way of. Its not an entity with wants, its a millions-year long process. And its impossible for our decisions to âstand in its way.â Our decisions to care for one another are what brought our species where it is, plain and simple.

Hannibal is an important cornerstone of modern fiction. One of the reasons of that may be because it dares to ask socio-culturally relevant questions like what if therians were evil? or what if the economy was so bad that therapists had to learn from cosmetic corporations and create their own clients?
