itās both satisfying and anxiety inducing every time i send a piece of writing out. like iām so happy i wrote this butā¦i wrote this, and someoneās gonna read itā¦
Is it just me, or is "all right" a request or a question and "alright" is a confirmation or an answer?
You know what hurts the most, as a writer? When I tuck little pieces of myself into my stories and offer them with hesitant hands to people whose approval I want, need, crave, and they reject it. Or worse, completely ignore it. When they unknowingly find the little hidden pieces of me in my characters that I didn't even know were there and point them out as flaws and things that make those characters hateable.
But, even worse than that, is when I do it myself. When I don't need anyone to tell me that the piece of me in that character is what makes it awful and ugly and malformed. When my temper ruins a sweet-natured character, or my anxiety bleeds into my words and my character's cowardice, or when my iciness lingers at the edge of a scene that's supposed to be open and loving, and I already know that I'm messing up the way my words reflect off of the paper and to my readers.
When, even before handing it to someone else with a shy little smile and a pathetic sentence or two about how I just need a fresh pair of eyes on the work, I've already rejected the pieces of myself that I left on that page so it won't hurt as much when they do it too, but it still does because I wanted them to prove me wrong but can't let them know that, so of course they never did.
You know what I really hate in writing? When someone uses the phrase "heart swells" to describe affection or love. Like, no. Sir. Ma'am. Mx. That is called cardiomyopathy? The swelling of the heart? Please don't do that???

To emphasize a shift / action / thought.

To add drama.
They dismissed our skills as AIādidn't even think twice, the dimwitsāand believed they were onto something.
To insert a sudden thought. Surely they wouldn't do that to usāwould they?
To interrupt someone's speech. "Hey, please don't say that. I honed my craft through years of blood and tearsā" "Shut up, prompter."
To interrupt someone's thoughts / insert a sudden event.
