I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:

IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.

1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.

2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.

3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”

4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”

5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.

TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.

Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.

I saw this post a few minutes ago about how video games should be more accessible for disabled people. It was very informative and helpful and gave tons of suggestions on how to make this happen.

BEFORE THAT I saw a tweet saying you shouldn’t block people because blocking can make people anxious and you should just mute them instead

And I remember like. All the people saying you shouldn’t make “triggering” content. Or the friend I had in college who told me I had to “dress consensually” cause their partner accidentally saw my boobs and got uncomfortable and like

That’s not activism, guys

That’s just being controlling

I’m sorry but even in a perfect world where every disability is accommodated for and everybody has human rights, you will still be uncomfortable

You will still have to live with people who don’t like you and people who disagree with you and people who like things that make you uncomfortable

The goal of activism is to make sure nobody’s human rights are being violated - that everyone has a steady supply of food and water and medicine and a roof over their head. That people don’t have to worry about poverty or crime. That peoples disabilities are accommodated for and that we are patient and kind to each other.

But that doesn’t make like…. A perfect world. Cause that’s just not how the world works. You cannot control the way other people behave and express themselves and demanding that they cater to YOU specifically isn’t activism, it’s just controlling.

Like I’m sorry but by the simple act of being alive as a human being you’ll just have to live with the knowledge that some things are out of your control and that you’ll be upset and uncomfortable sometimes. Being alive just does that.
