right, so here’s the thing about good omens.

at the end of 2016 (bear with me for a sec) a member of pussy riot came to my university to do a guest lecture. this was one month after donald trump was first elected.

she said to us “if you have the privilege to pack up and leave the country right now, you also have the privilege to stay and fight.”

i cannot stop thinking about it.

if you heard about neil gaiman’s allegations and thought “i can’t be here anymore,” i’m really glad you made that choice for yourself. sometimes you need to leave, sometimes it no longer feels safe, and neil gaiman deserves to see the consequences of his actions in that way. in all ways. fuck him. i didn’t feel safe anymore either, maybe i should’ve left too.

but i didn’t. sometimes i hate to admit it because i’m carrying so much weight along with the love, but i really do love good omens, so i stayed. i had fallen in love with a world that interested me, characters i connected with, and a love i could relate to. good omens is a great story.

but the thing is, the story is inseparable from the man who helped write it.

so if you’re going to stay, if you’re going to be talking about good omens on a frequent basis, you have to fight. you have to keep speaking up about what he’s done, you have to push back, you have to make this fandom inhospitable for people who defend him.

neil gaiman’s name may be here to stay too, but he is not welcome here. make it clear to him.

there was such a massive influx of people condemning him when the allegations first came to light, and there’s a handful of us talking about it now, and it’s incredible to see that support for the victims, but it needs to be ongoing. keep talking about the harm he’s caused (and continues to cause), keep doing those fan projects for charity, and keep believing survivors.

we cannot pretend he doesn’t exist. it would be easier! it would be nice! but there is so much harm in that. your silence is loud.

for those who don’t remember, “mole interest” was an experiment I did 2 years ago because I wanted to test what causes tags to go trending on tumblr. My hypothesis was that all it takes is one (1) post blowing up in an established tag to make the entire tag trend.

I had randomly generated 2 words, which is where “mole interest” came from. I failed to consider that by generating a new tag, it wouldn’t have had enough posts already in it to prove what I now call “the mole interest effect”.

But now it does.

In 2023, we said “fuck it” a la mythbusters and ended up doing whatever it took to get #mole interest to trend. And it did. And it happened to be September 11th that day, and we managed to get #mole interest to trend ABOVE #9/11.

So, in the name of science, I ask you to reblog just this post. Let’s put the mole interest effect to the test.

Hob’s Stranger, Dream of the Endless, Lord Morpheus of the Dreaming, Prince of Nightdreams and Sovereign of the… Unconsciousness and Shaper of. Of. Of. Shaper of Shapes. Worlds. Weaver-thingy. Dreams. 

Is—

“S’dead,” Hob chokes out, the heels of his hands digging into his eye sockets, elbows digging into his knees. He tries to take in a breath, but all that results is another sob. 

He hadn’t started out like this. 

He’d woken up after dreaming about a funeral the same way he’d dreamed about that bloody toast—hyperrealistic scenes with edges that fuzzed and shadows that shifted and all the hours of it condensed into a single point in his brain just as real as his commute home on the tube yesterday—and first, there had been the shock. The processing. The gut-stalling knowledge that it had all been real, every second, the clowns and the ivory marble and the bridge of hands where he’d talked to Death herself because.

Because Hob’s Stranger is dead.
