Listen, we all laugh at how much mileage Aziraphale is gonna get out of his kinky ‘captive princess’ fantasies once he and Crowley get it together, and we are completely right and correct to do so. But we’ve all been sleeping on the other half of that equation. Because Aziraphale’s the one who’s been setting up these, “Oh no, I am dramatically imperiled (and/or mildly inconvenienced); where oh where is the dashing and devilishly handsome knight who will save me?” scenarios for centuries - but Crowley’s the one who’s been turning up unfailingly, again and again and again.
Because Crowley? Crowley wants to be the hero. Crowley wants to be James Bond. He wants it so badly it hurts, bullet-hole windscreen transfers and all. Crowley’s deep, dark fantasy is that he can be good - but also a little bit bad. The rogue agent, the wild card, the one who doesn’t follow the rules, and doesn’t much truck with listening to his superiors. Crowley’s deep, dark fantasy is one in which he gets it right; in which he does the right thing at the right time, and has the right witty comeback in the right situation, and instead of being punished, he saves the day and wins the heart of the genderless celestial being of his choice. Crowley’s deep, dark fantasy is one in which he is never not in control of his situation; one in which he bounces back easily and stylishly from all manner of fights and challenges and adversity; where he faces nothing he cannot overcome with the right combination of wit, ballsiness, and a little Hollywood luck. Crowley’s deep, dark fantasy, the one he can never, ever admit out loud, is one where the world is simple and uncomplicated in the way nothing in real life is simple and uncomplicated; a world in which the good end happily, the bad unhappily, the baddies are dispatched in PG-13 fashion, and none of it needs to be questioned or second-guessed at all.
Crowley’s deep, dark fantasy is one in which there is nothing so dastardly, nothing so terrible or fearsome, that it cannot be solved by a guy in a flash suit arriving in the nick of time with a fancy car, and a complicated watch, and a pen that can write underwater.
If someone said to me "gonna erase your wife and child from existence but don't worry billions of years later there will be people who look like you and them" I would be in danger of forgetting I am a radical pacifist and ripping their throats out with my teeth.
tumblr didn’t let me post ALL DAY for some reason so here’s what you missed from our anniversary adventure in the city:
took a detour to get to the art exhibit and walked through a really lovely asian garden. absolutely gorgeous. they had an angel’s trumpet tree that i wanted to lie under to take a nap
tried to feed some ducks but they were profoundly ungrateful
i convinced carla to ride one of those rentable motorcycle scooters to the restaurant and took years off her life. we got off and she said “i did NOT like that contraption” 😂 i had fun though. maybe too much fun
the restaurant was everything. obviously. very fancy italian place. three courses, handmade pasta and all that. they gave us free prosecco for our anniversary and it was so good that carla drank far more than they planned, much to my delight
she told me i’m the only one who understands her desire to be fancy :’)
carla also kept quoting 15th century french literature to me so this city will forever be associated with margaret of angoulême i guess
walked to an independent bookshop before catching the train home, but the area we ended up in had about zero stores with bathrooms so we had to go into an extremely upscale hotel. wild experience. first of all, they had a table out with fruit and herb water, some sort of hibiscus mint drink, energy bites (??), fresh fruits, and a glass bowl of honey. yes we did take stuff. secondly, a man called me madame in a french accent and gave me a shallow bow as a means to tell me he was in line for the bathroom. and before we left we heard someone violently retching. ahh the rich.
in the end the bookshop was lame but they did have good omens up front. the hotel was far more interesting. admittedly we did miss our intended train because we got caught up in the frills though
overall an excellent and exhausting day. as soon as we got off the train we grabbed our suitcases and headed for the airport. no doubt we will be asleep by 9pm
its 7 in the goddamn morning and my wife and i are finally doing our fucking anniversary plans against all goddamn motherfucking odds so unfollow me now because this is the only thing i’m going to be talking about for the next 8 hours
Hii this is very random but what’s ur personal opinion on camping!! And would Crowley and the other one like it (I haven’t seen good omens but from ur blog I mean what else would I ask)
Hiiiiiiii anon! well I always love talking about good omens, so thanks for this
I dont mind camping, I like nature and I'm not really bothered by sleeping in tents. I never do it because I'm not in a very outdoorsy family. however if I ever have to hike I will throw myself off the mountain.
I don't think crowley would like camping very much, he really loves modern inventions, and I think camping would remind him too much of the fourteenth century. something along the lines of "the humans invented all of these things to avoid sleeping outside and being in the wilderness, and now they're going back out for fun? makes no sense"
I think aziraphale(the other one) would like pretending to be human by doing things like camping, but I don't think he would like the actual activity very much.
have a cooking tip since i used this technique yesterday.
caramelizing onions can take a really long time, like upwards of an hour. but! you can speed up the maillard reaction by increasing the ph and knock that time down to around 20 minutes if you add baking soda. just a pinch! too much will make the onions mushy and taste like, well, baking soda, but i stg you won’t even notice a difference if you use it sparingly.
yesterday i sliced up four yellow onions, half a red onion, and one shallot, put them all in a hot pan full of butter, let it cook down for a bit, and added a tiny pinch of baking soda, and it was a gorgeous deep brown color in 20 minutes. texture was perfect. highly recommend.
i’ll get over the disappointing ending of a tv show but neil ga*man will never get over the allegations it will taint his every biography his whole legacy. so yeah :)
this is obviously a risk with all media, yes, but. what’s also been upsetting me about good omens 3 is the amount of triggering content. good omens was supposed to be a comedy. we expected something lighthearted. instead we opened with substance use disorder and ended with major character death. the amount of people i have seen on here who had already been traumatized in their personal lives by alcohol use, by the death of a loved one, by suicidality, etc, who went into this finale with excitement and left with old wounds reopened just does not sit right with me. it’s one thing to have all that in a show that’s set a precedent for it, but good omens was not that.
