With reference to my last posts, just saying, if I say 'this post is not only about GDT Frankenstein' and 'this post is half-joking and not approaching the argument about novel adaptations in good faith' and you STILL feel offended enough to comment and try to 'debate' me, it means clearly it struck a chord and I'm probably right. Anyway I thought I'd list/promote some adaptations I do like because why waste our time torturing ourselves with slop. Let's all hold hands and stein together in joys
• The 1994 audio drama
Legitimately would not really hesitate to call this my favourite adaptation, I think the team who worked on it genuinely understood the novel and I really like a lot of the additional choices they made. My only point of irritation is the fact that they all have English accents but what can ya do
• My Girlfriend, Enid
Mostly just taking the opportunity to promote their project (not that they need my shoutout), more Frankenstein-inspired than a direct adaptation but, this is my list and everything the team is doing over there looks so interesting and unique, VERY excited to watch the final short film!! 2D animation forever and ever and ever
• Frankenstein: A New Musical
Now is this a GOOD adaptation? ......different question. Okay cards out front I do think this show is objectively not very good and also it does a lot of the things I hate in adaptations (Elizabeth and Frankenstein parents character butchering is its most egregious sin...), and its corny ash but it is better than most others, so. I'm sorry I have to give credit where credit is due. And 90% of the reason I put it here is pure nostalgia icl, I love this show dearly even if its a bit ass 💔 I love the casting of Victor, the Creature, Elizabeth and Clerval! American accents but, hey what can ya do. There. There that's a genuine compliment

• 2012 audio drama
I don't like this adaptation nearly as much as its 1994 counterpart (leans a little too heavy into Elizabeth/Victor for me, and I don't like Walton's casting), but it definitely has its moments and I still like it quite a lot.
• HM: Junji Ito's Frankenstein
The reason I put it as an honourable mention is due to the fact I still haven't read it, so it'd be disingenuous to give it a proper entry, but all I've seen of it looks very very good and I've taken too much visual reference from it over the years not to give it its due credit 🫡
I've seen others I thought were in some sense interesting (the metal opera? very cool idea....) but unfortunately I just. couldn't get past the rampant misinterpretation enough to enjoy them. Alas!!
