Contingency Plans
Location 1: Yasmin’s Mum’s Flat. If this plan falls through we have a choice of two different houses to choose from-either Jordan’s or Zoe’s. The first choice would probably be Zoe’s because of the female being the lead but since Zoe has a loft bed we would probably need to use Jordan’s room and house.Â
Location 2: Hatch Warren Park. We plan on filming here for the scenes inside Esme’s mind. If this falls through and we can’t get permission to film here, we will be using Zoe’s back garden and taking the money for travel expenses out of our budget.Â
Location 3: (Optional) Festival Place. We might use this to show Esme when she is out of the house and out of college with her friends and how she interacts that way. If we decide against it or if we can’t get permission for Festival Place filming, we will probably leave this out as we already have her interacting with friends in class.Â
Location 4: BCoT. If for some reason we cannot use the classroom we were planning to we will just contact reception and ask them what rooms are available and go from there as to picking one that is the most suitable. We will have to get everyone in class’s permission to be in the classroom scene and if not, we will ask the other actors and actresses to stand in as classmates. We will also be using the girl’s bathroom so will simply put up a sign on the outside of the door saying that it is temporarily unavailable and when we are done, take it down. (With the permission of the college, of course.) If we can’t use the bathroom we will use the hallways.Â
Location 5: Hatch Warren Path. If we cannot use the underpass for permission-related reasons, we will use one of the gardens that we have access too within a reasonable distance to the underpass we originally wanted to use.Â

SCRIPT-SENTIENCE INT.DARK.ESME’S MIND. Establishing shot of the main area of Esme’s mind- the cages rattling from the creatures inside them and the lights glowing as they talk to each other in mumbled voices. Several close-ups of the caged creatures flicking between them very quickly. INT.DA...
EXPERIMENTATION:Â
For experimentation of our ideas we decided to visit the costume shop near the college where we picked up inspiration for the appearance of our characters and creatures. We then visited Fabric Land in town and picked out some potential material to make clothing for the characters with. Both mine and Zoe’s mothers are skilled at making clothes so we will employ their help to create the looks we are after.Â
We chose green for compulsion because of it’s greedy nature, black for depression because of it’s darker nature, multi-coloured for sexuality with large red, knee-high boots, to emphasise the flamboyance of the character. We chose a white wig for obsession because of the ultimately distorted nature of it’s innocence. Creativity will be wearing a boho get-up because of the typical style associated with creativity and we also found contacts that will either black-out or white-out the eyes of the creatures we choose. These will be useful to create an immersive feel to the creatures. Also in the costume shop was neon paint which we decided to use on the hands of the creatures so that everything they touched was tainted.Â
Location Plans - Webisodes MAIN LOCATIONS: LOCATION 1: Yasmin’s Mum’s Flat- for all scenes at home. This is CONFIRMED. LOCATION 2: Hatch Warren Park- for all scenes inside Esme’s mind, this will house all the cages. This is TBC. LOCATION 3: Festival Place-for one scene with Esm...
Proposal
Our proposal is a webisodes series that follows the life of Esmerelda Doyle as she navigates her way through mental illness and figuring out her sexuality. We will be presenting this through flashes in and out of her mind where characters roam and creatures are caged.
THANK YOU! We have over half the donations we budgeted for Sentience!! Please continue to donate and share our cause, remember: anything from pennies to pounds is greatly appreciated!! :)

LGBT Film Festival
At the beginning of April, myself and fellow director of Sentience, Zoe (Zazu) Mack visited the BFI’s LGBT Film Festival in London. IT WAS AMAZING! I absolutely loved the experience and we came away with so much more inspiration as to how to create our short films/webisodes. We even approached the directors and producers of our favourite film and asked them for some advice as to how to inject comedy or light-heartedness into a serious film. They told us some of it is down to the script and that improv is always good for comedy-as much as possible. We’re looking into this and the other ways that we can make our webisodes a little more light-hearted in places.Â
So today the production crew (Jordan, Zoe and Me) went on a walk after doing some work on the pre-production for our Webisodes pilot when I came across a phone left on the bench I was sitting on. I called the mum, dad and home number before the boyfriend (called ‘Monkey’ on the phone) called and we arranged to meet him to give him the phone. When he arrived we called out: It’s monkey! Hahaha, anyway-long story short we got paid a tenner because a lot of people wouldn’t have given it back. So we decided to use it as the start of our production budget. Look out for the vlog that goes along with it. Thanks, Monkey! :D X
The crazy crew ;)
Team Members
Team members for this project are as follows:
Yasmin Carter-Morgan- Co-director, co-head of advertisement and camera operator
Jordan Nethercliffe- Co-director, co-head of advertisement and editor.
Zoe (Zazu) Mack- co-director and camera operator, actress and head of character blog/vlogs.
We may employ the services of Ben Johnson for the use of lighting and perhaps Lauryn Renfew and Grace Lawrence to play extras-friends of Esmerelda- in the webisodes, should we need them.
Target Audience and Relevance to Audience
We believe that our target audience should be ages 15 plus, due to the psychological difficulties that could be traumatic for younger viewers. We will issue a trigger warning at the beginning of every trailer or clip/pilot alongside this audience rating so that people with similar issues or who are easily influenced can click away if they think they won’t be able to handle the content of what we are posting.
Our webisodes idea is relevant to the intended audience because due to the modern day pressures and stress put upon every day life for teenagers going through school, college, starting work etc, there is an increasing amount of teenagers being diagnosed with stress and anxiety related mental illness. Also in this developing society and culture, we, as a society are becoming more and more accepting of the different sexualities that have previously been hidden away due to fears of opinion and safety.Â
Synopsis of Sentience
Esmerelda (Esme) Doyle is a 17 year old girl with a complex brain. Jump into her mind and look into what it’s like to have a mental illness while figuring out your sexuality. Inside the brain, the creatures that bully her other traits are on the rampage and it’s up to Esme to fight them off, back into submission. Will she win the war on sanity?Â
