Rescues With a Cost || The Subversion Event Part 2 - Open
When Karen arrived at the edge of The Mistwood, she took a moment to breathe. She had the bright idea of walking all the way there. While she made a mental note to invest in a bike once all this was over, she took in her surroundings. There was a sense of otherworldly things here as if magic and spirits only resided in this forest. She sensed that in the church and in the lake of the koi, but much more of it seemed to reside here. She soon ventured into the forest without much hesitation. She didn’t know how much time left before her other self succumbs to the virus or is killed by some other source. Something definitely lived in this forest apart from birds, but whether they were hostile or not remains to be seen. She heard a voice that asked her if needed help and she saw a figure in mist. It looked like a small child, but also kept moving, never at the same place for long.
They kept telling her to follow them and that they’ll lead her to her. As dangerous as it was to follow magical creatures without knowing what they are, she had no other leads and therefore no other foreseeable choices to do so otherwise. So with a grip on the hilt of her sword, she followed the figures deeper into the forest. Some time had passed before she heard a scream and as they became louder and more frequent, she realized that it sounded exactly like her own. She soon broke into a run towards the sound. When she got there, she found her other self being cornered by some sort of shadowy figure with all types of limbs. With no time left to spare, she took her sword and cast a spell, creating a barrier between her other self and the creature. As the creature repeatedly wails on the barrier, Karen took this opportunity to head towards her other self.
“Stay put I’ll be right there!” But now, she wishes that she brought along some sort of help.
Surprisingly, it hadn’t taken Ludger very long to take care of the situation with his double; with all the chaos currently unfolding around him, he was grateful that the whole thing had been settled with relatively little trouble. However, the same could not be said for many others in the city, so he decided to try and help out where he could.
The new areas outside the city opening up only served to complicate matters though. It seemed like several doubles had fled out to the Mistwood for whatever reason, and Ludger could only guess what kind of dangers lurked within. All the more reason to go in and see if anyone needed help while he was already in the area. Still, he was alone for now so he needed to be cautious and keep his guard up.
As he made his way through the forest—his hammer gripped firmly in his hands in preparation for anything that may come—he heard something. He thought it sounded like a person so he started making his way in that direction, only to realize it was someone screaming. Picking up his pace, he arrived to find a girl with a sword and what he guessed was her double being attacked by some creature that looked to be entirely made out of shadows.
Without hesitation he ran at the creature and swung his hammer, unsure if he could even hurt the thing like this. But he could definitely distract it. At the very least, he would try to create an opening for the others. However, with his hands currently occupied he couldn’t sign, so all he could do was hope that the intention was clear.
