GOOD ACTING COMES FROM THE HEART

Sanford Meisner said that his approach to training “is based on bringing the actor back to his emotional impulses and to acting that is firmly rooted in the instinctive. It is based on the fact that all good acting comes from the heart, as it were, and that there’s no mentality to it.”

Learn to live in the moment as an actor, and let go of any idea of result.  Learn what it means to really “do” and to respond truthfully to a given moment based on what you get from your partner.  Through improvisation, emotional truth and personal response learn to resonate authenticity within a given circumstance. Only in this way will you begin to understand the definition of real acting, which is “to live truthfully under the imaginary circumstances”.

Exposure to the arts can be a very influential part of childhood.  It most certainly will help build confidence that you may not find anywhere else.  Being involved in a school play or taking acting classes can help transform a child.  Theater and workshops teach you to be a good listener and all great listeners are great learners.  When we are good listeners, we become a person of influence; a leader.

In addition to being a great listener, there are a variety of other important skills that future leaders can learn through taking acting classes.  To name a few, Confidence, Poise, Public Speaking, Conversation, Empathy, Imagination and Teamwork.

To be a professional singer, industry connections play an important role.  Talented vocalists such as Ava Lovelle may never be heard outside of her local market without the services of a manager. An artist's support entourage is essential in securing recording contracts, publicity, publishing and marketing deals and live performance engagements for their clients.  Whether singing for pleasure or profit, a singer needs training. Young Actor Nathanial McIntyre lands the role as Simba in The Lion King on Broadway.  Nate’s Mom says “to be a successful actor, you have to work at it every day.” Nobody is going to come knocking on your door begging you to act for them so you have to do the work to get noticed.  

Even though Nate is a successful actor, he continues to sharpen his craft at The Workshop Bar.  

Nate’s Mom says that “..he is fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time.  Not everyone is that lucky!” If you are interested in becoming a successful actor, start by scheduling at least an hour every day that you are working at your business. This includes taking acting classes, auditioning, doing targeted agent mailings, and creating a website. Your job is to learn the business and be your own CEO.  Build your brand, it all starts at The Workshop Bar, there is simply nothing else like it!
