Jose always says people don't really understand how hard Azzi's job is on the court, and ngl that's kinda where this thought came from lol..

I wonder if that's why her shot attempts are always somewhere around the same number. Like... maybe they feel like they can generate offense from other people (whether that's actually good offense is a whole different conversation) but they can't really replace what Azzi does on defense. So they kinda sacrifice some of her offense to keep her locked in on that end. Idk if I'm reaching tho😭

I've also noticed Azzi sometimes hesitates to shoot and just swings the ball instead. Idk if that's just her mindset or if playing that defensive role makes her overthink everytime the ball is on her hand

I get why people are frustrated. We all know Azzi's always been a shooter. I feel like the adjustment has to come from both sides. Azzi's gotta just let it fly sometimes and just trust herself and the coaching staff gotta start putting more defensive responsibility on everyone else too instead of relying so much on Azzi🤷‍♀️

I'm not saying Azzi is a perfect player, but if Dallas wants longterm success, they need to invest in her too. She's literally fresh out of college. The adjustment to the WNBA isn't easy, and it shouldn't all be on her to figure it out. She needs the right guidance, patience, and a system that actually helps her develop.

Being this dependent on Arike hasn't gotten Dallas where they want to be for years. At some point, you have to acknowledge that and build something different instead of expecting a different result every season. Maybe I'm wrong, but from where I'm sitting, I just don't see a future if they keep doing the same thing. It's so frustrating.

Paige being out didn't create the problem. It just exposed it. Even with Paige on the floor, too many players are trying to play like they're the star instead of playing team basketball. Without her, it's just impossible to ignore. That's the issue, Jose.
