These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.
While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.
Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.
We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!
Environmental problems CAN BE SOLVED.
One of the most important things to remember if you care about the world is that the propagandizing of "it's too late to do anything about the environment/climate change" is coming from the same people who pitched "climate change isn't happening". They don't want us banding together to make good things happen.
dark green is a nice color. underrated
ladies and gentlemen, Phtalo Green
This is literally my favorite color. đ© Smaragd green is another dark shade of green that Iâm absolutely obsessed with.
I think you can absolutely still have hope while acknowledging we are in multiple forms of collapse. You can be hopeful youâll get a job. You can be hopeful solutions will arise. You can be hopeful youâll make friends. You can be hopeful that there are people who care for the world amidst the world being beat and bruised.
Youâre allowed to care even though lots of things are going bad. Some things canât be fixed or saved. But itâs okay to hold onto hope for something good to happen tomorrow. Good things are always going to pop up like flowers in war zones.
âThe world is not on fire, there are just lots of fires.â Donât lose hope that some fires can be put out. So much is still easy. Build a safe zone within the flames, and persist putting them out. Accepting we are in a bad place does not equal rolling over to let it get worse. No matter how bad things will get, you can still put out flames in different spaces.
You can give yourself the freedom of acknowledging life right now is in a state of unrest and we donât know when the chapter will close, while also being happy we are here with other people and things that make it worth it. Because it is worth it. All hard things are worth it.
Allow yourself gentle mercies that will keep you alive.
A reminder that sell-buy dates or best-used-by dates are not the same as expiration dates.
I love that a food bank is providing this info as they are experts in stretching food budgets and knowledgable in shelf-stable food items
So I followed the link to the website and found the longer list.
The website puts a link to the USDA site which links to foodsafety dot gov who really wants you to use the app, but you can bypass it.
Also a link to the Canadian government's advisory on best-before dates.
Both sites have links to pages that get more into food storage.
Quite recently, a second species of spinosaur was officially confirmed - Spinosaurus mirabilis Because of its elongated crest and magical sounding name I felt like depicting it in the style of 16th century paintings that portrayed young maidens with a unicorn
Finally figured out how to permanently disable google assistant on phone
You can't just post this and not tell us how man
Instead of being in settings its in the google app. Also, google, not chrome. Icon is a G, not the circle thing. Click on your pfp to open a menu
From there, go Settings > Gemini > Digital Assistants > Switch to Google Assistant. This disables Gemini, google's AI assistant, and switches you back to the old one. We aren't done yet.
Go back to Settings. From there, we go Settings > Google Assistant > scroll to find General > Google Assitant on/off > turn it off
They really tried their best to make it a pain, but you can eventually disable it. Holding the power button on your phone still pulls up a menu and asks you to turn it back on, but this is the least intrusive you can make it.
Applies to all non-apple phones afaik. For sure Samsungs and Pixels but idrk about others
Edit: thank you my friend @/teeth-kid for confirming that this also works on Motorola

Dudes healthcare is so fake. My ADHD meds are $940 without insurance. But they gave me a website of "coupons" which straight up looks like a scam website, and I got it today for $60! Just a coupon from a random website and it was $900 cheaper. America, I am confusion!! America explain!!
For all my uninsured judys out there it's for Walgreens only: walgreens.rxsense.com
as a pharmacy technician i can share with you some websites that give you those "coupons" for your meds!
goodrx is the most well known one, but if i'm trying to find the cheapest price for a patient i compare it to scriptcycle, and use whichever is offering the best price. you just type in the medication (PLEASE make sure you're getting the right drug, dosage, and quantity) and your zip code and they will spit out some offers for you
some pharmacies may have their own discount card to compare to as well!
if you are getting a name brand medication, you can also look at the manufacturer's website to see if they offer any evouchers for you to use too
good luck out there đ
How to Pay Hospital Bills When Youâre Flat Broke

Not to indulge in childish fantasies but what if every time I checked the news it wasnât worse?
FIRST: Read this - no really I mean read it. If you have to, just read the first page and then skim the rest... you can skip over the reforestation parts and the progress in ocean management parts and you'll still get the point. But be sure to read the last three paragraphs.
Then read Fix The News every few days. You don't have to subscribe to read it. I'm telling you it's good for you.
No, seriously. Go read it again.
It helped.
