rosie nodded a little at the suggestion, excited at the idea.  she’d always LOVED statistics, it was her favorite of the math classes she ever took. ‘ like we both get the same flavor and pit them against each other like that ?? but then we’d have to make sure it was a blind taste test, or else there would be too much bias. ’ she mused,a new spring in her step at that.  it was bringing her back to comfort and ease, the way they always behaved with each other, goofy and interested in things that nobody else was.  ‘ so like, i close my eyes and try them both without knowing which is which, but you’ll know which one i chose.  and then you do the same. ’ she couldn’t shake the grin off her face, even though it was over something that was really pretty dumb.  but that was okay. ‘ so, are you excited for the party tonight ?? ’ she asked, making small talk about the new years party that they were going to have to return to before too long.

♛       francisco excitedly nodded his head. ‘ yes ! i couldn’t have said it better. that is our exact plan. here  —— ’ he hands her ten bucks and points to starbucks. ‘ buy one from there. or two. i mean i thought we’d share but if you want your own that’s okay, too, i guess. ’ he chuckles. ‘ we will meet back at the table. ’ the male taps the top of the table to the right of him. they always met there. they’d do their homework here after school —— or really get donuts and drinks and talk, but that’s what they called doing homework to their parents. his eyes lit up when she brought up the party. francisco nodded his head really fast and couldn’t help the little jump he did. ‘ i’m so excited ! my mouth is already watering at the idea of all of the food. i know christmas barely passed, but new years food is just better. you know, junkier, if that makes sense. ’

♛ MRS TATIANA ESTRADA

    her gaze keeps falling down to her watch, eyeing how the seconds tick by but it still doesn’t seem any closer to midnight. she’d thought about it constantly —- kissing him. honestly, she considered doing it when they were just hanging out more times than she could even count. no time seemed like the right time, though, and she’d never gained the courage at any given time to take that leap. though there was constant flirting between them, tatiana had always blamed that solely on the fact that they were pretty much each other’s best friends. it was all harmless and for fun, never romantic, wasn’t it? once he places his hand over her face, she whines obnoxiously, shaking her head to try to maneuver herself away from him without actually tugging her body from the warmth of his. ‘pretend ? ’ she repeats, a soft giggle spilling past bright red lips. ‘ you are a superhero, duh. ’ she speaks as if it’s the most obvious statement in the world —- he’s always appeared to be something of the sort to her. ‘ i used to hate the cold. i would always be that little girl wearing, like, fifteen sweaters and refusing to play in the snow. ’

♛          ‘ calling me a superhero is one of the nicest things you’ve ever said to me. ’ he tells her, wrinkling his nose and wiggling his head a bit in her direction. ‘ the steam stuff was literally the only reason why i liked the cold, to be honest ! i genuinely thought that i was a super hero ! ’ francisco laughs at himself and shakes his head slightly. ‘ there’s only two minutes until it’s midnight. ’ francisco awkwardly laughs immediately after and can feel the butterflies going off on his stomach. he knew that they both knew they were going to kiss. but he obviously had to be the one to make the move, and that was scary. he glances around at all the pairs of people that were literally preparing themselves to give their significant other the first kiss of the year. the idea of kissing tati made him excited —— like, really excited. he couldn’t wait to do it because he had definitely thought about it a lot. but he never really imagined about how he would exactly do it. new years was obviously a perfect opportunity to go in for it. the crowds of people began to chant, counting down from ten. he obviously excitedly went along, but he couldn’t help the nervous shake taking place in his throat. ‘ THREE, TWO, ONE —— HAPPY NEW YEAR ! ’ his view falls down to tatiana and he lets out a shaky breath. he lowers himself a bit so that their faces were close, and so if he whispers  —— she could hear him. ‘ happy new year, tati. i wouldn’t want to be spending it with anyone else rather than you. ’ one of his hands sets firmly on her waist, pulling her petite body closer toward his frame. the other cups the side of her face,  his thumb rubbing slightly against her cheek. after mere seconds, he leans in, pressing their lips together. as soon as her lips make contact with his own he feels like the fireworks going off outside in the sky were actually going off in him  —— he never wanted it to stop.

♛ MRS TATIANA ESTRADA

    it seems like every little thing francisco says has her falling even harder for him. that was something she couldn’t admit for a long time —- crushes never settled well with her, and when she could admit that she liked someone, every little thing would go wrong and keep her from acting on those feelings. from the start, she’d told herself she couldn’t like him. with as good a friend as he’d become to her, she couldn’t ruin that by making herself uneasy every single time he came around. he would never like her that way, she was sure ; she was just little tatiana, and he was way too good for her. gently, she tugs her hand from his, only to wrap her arms around his lithe build, clasping her own hands together in an attempt to keep him locked in place. ‘ oh, shut up ! i am not that tiny !! ’ she retorts, a faux pout gracing her features. but it lasts barely ten seconds before its quirking up into a tiny smile. ‘ i’m tall. you’re just too fucking tall. you’ve gotta bend down just to reach my face. ’ not that she’s thinking of kissing him —- of course not.

♛       he suddenly feels fuzzy ; you know, when tatiana cuddles up to him, he likes the way her body fits so perfectly with his own —— like a puzzle of some sort. he liked it a lot. francisco poked his lower lip out into a pout to imitate her and let out a laugh. ‘ nah, i’m not too tall. you’re just tiny. but it’s okay  —— tiny is cute. so you’re cute, yeah. ’ another toothy smile painted it’s way onto his pink lips and he chuckled at her statement. ‘ now why would i be needing to reach ur face ? i can just do this —— ’ he covers her face with his hand for a few seconds and gasps playfully. ‘ my hand is so big compared to your face ! ’ his tongue wets his lips and he lets out a small sigh, which let the visible air vapor thing to show. ‘ i remember when i was a kid and used to pretend that i was a superhero. i’d go outside and pretend my cold breath would freeze the bad guys. ’ he giggles at himself and shakes his head. ‘ i remember my neighbors would always pretend they were smoking and i was so confused as to why they thought it was cool. whatever. ’ he glances down at his watch which shows that it’s not long until midnight. the butterflies begin to erupt in his stomach once again and he actually kinda likes it. he likes the way that tati makes him feel, and he never wants it to stop.

♛ ROSIE

she could feel her phone vibrating insistently in her pocket, and she was going to get an earful later for leaving her sister hanging, but she couldn’t bring herself to tear her attention away from francisco– which, to be honest, was an issue she’d always struggled quite a bit with.  ‘ well, yeah.  kids have parents, you know.  it’s a really good layout– maybe not the being right next to each other, but they both had the right idea with sticking near a park.  then all the parents and stuff can grab a coffee while their kids are playing. ’  it was always SO EASY to talk to francisco, conversation would just flow from them so naturally, there were never awkward lulls or pauses. ‘the competition is interesting, though.  starbucks has such a big stigma, but then dunkin donuts is much more affordable. ’ she wrinkled her nose again when he booped it, giving him a gentle shove. ‘ i’m always cold, let me be cold in peace. ’

♛       francisco shook his head. ‘ no, silly. i didn’t mean the coffee shops and the park. i meant the two actual coffee shops. like that’s a lot of competition between the two, is what i meant ! ’ he chuckles, poking her shoulder with his finger. ‘ what if we got one of both and tried each other’s ? ’ he smirks at her, as if he had just said some master-plan. ‘ then we can say which one tastes better !! ’ he excitedly tells her, walking toward the dunkin donuts since it was the closer. tonight was new years, which definitely brought curiousity to francisco. especially after they had that conversation about rosita being in love with in 'n all. they were going back to his house, like they did every year. rosie's family and his family would gather together, eat, talk, and just wait for it to become midnight. it was tradition. he wondered if it would be different this year --- he kinda hoped it would be, but he wouldn't say anything.

♛ MRS TATIANA ESTRADA

    tatiana wasn’t one to get NERVOUS —- shy, maybe, but never nervous. yet whenever francisco was around, she found her heart beating faster and her stomach flipping. no matter how many times she told herself this was francisco, it was just francisco, the feeling never seemed to fade. the feeling only grew each time she saw that ridiculously gorgeous smile of his, or when he leaned into her when they laughed. absently, tatiana rests her petite frame against him, searching for warmth though her nerves send heat throughout her body. ‘ gorgeous, yeah, ’ she grins, eyes flitting back between him and the sky. even in the cold weather, she swears her palms are sweating as she laces her fingers with his, her gaze dropping down just to note the size difference between their hands. ‘ i could still wander, y’know. it’ll be a lot easier if… ’ she pauses, shuffling so that she can nuzzle herself into him, cheek pressed against his chest. ‘ m’warm like this. you sure you don’t have anywhere else to be tonight ? i don’t wanna hold you up from better plans. ’

♛       francisco furrows his eyebrows together and a laugh explodes from his lips. ‘ BETTER plans ?! than to be with you ?? you’re crazy. ’ he tells her, shaking his head. his grin expands, showing a few teeth when she hides herself in his arms. ‘ you’re so tiny and cute. i could literally hide you in my jacket and no one would know ! ’ though it wasn’t even midnight yet, they were still setting off some fireworks here and there, but francisco’s sight was glued to tatiana. it wasn’t because he was worried about losing her  ——  okay maybe a little. but really, it was because he thought she was one of the most beautiful girls he had ever seen in his life. one of the reasons why he was MOST excited was because he wanted her to be his new years kiss. he had been thinking about this moment for as long as he could remember, and it made his stomach do flips. this was way worse than butterflies. there were probably angry wasps in there.

            “no! they are clearly siblings i mean c’mon their hair colour is the exact same and they’re doing that weird thing where they wrinkle their noses all the time. definitely brother and sister.” confidently nodding zara reached out and sipped her water. she was sure someone would catch the two of them one of these days and start a fight but it was just too funny. “i’m always right aaren, shouldn’t you know that by now?’.

♛       aaren wrinkled his nose the same way the ‘couple’ was and he shook his head. ‘ they’re only doing that with their noses because they think it’s absolutely gross that you think they’re siblings !  —— no, no no. now that you say that i am literally tempted to go up to them and ask if they’re siblings or not. ’ aaren admitted, not liking that she was saying that she was right. ‘ i’m the right one. always. ’ he insisted, taking a bite out of the sandwich he ordered. ‘ okay, on their way out i’ll ask. i don’t care how weird that is.  —— how about those two ? lesbian couple or best friends ? ’ he raised an eyebrow and leaned back in his chair. ‘ whatever you guess i’ll pick the opposite. whoever is right get’s a buck. ’

♛       ‘ it’s pretty outside, innit ? ’ francisco asked, draping his arm over the shoulders of the shorter girl. ‘ fucking cold, though. ’ he groans, attempting to wiggle his nose ( it is obviously way too cold to do so, though ). they were downtown because they wanted to see the fireworks. this was one of the first new year’s that he’s spent away from his parents, but he had given them money to treat themselves for the nights. he wasn’t upset, though, because he absolutely loved spending time with tatiana. there was crowds and crowds of people, so it would be quiet easy for them to lose each other. ‘ give me your hand. ’ he says, letting his hand down for her to take it. ‘ i wouldn’t wanna lose you. hm ? ’ the male gives her a toothy smile and lifts an eyebrow. ‘ are you cold ? do you need my coat ? i’ll be okay with just my hoodie, i promise ! ’ francisco had a habit of maybe  —— caring too much. it made him come off a little strong sometimes, but he just didn’t want her to get sick  ——  really. it definitely wasn’t because he’s seen online that girls love taking clothing from boys because they smell good. definitely not.

rosie was INSANELY nervous, was the thing, and she felt more absurd for it than she had earlier for thinking it was a good idea to slide in hey, did you know i had the biggest crush on your for the longest time ever to a playful conversation about their childhood.  she really, really wished she could call cat right about now, but it would also take too long and she didn’t want to keep cisco waiting at all, so she was quick to check her hair and her makeup —- right before actually sighing outloud at herself, because it was just francisco —- and typing out a quick text ( that consisted of HELP I TOLD CISCO I WAS IN LOVE W HIM LMAO and a bunch of the red SOS emojis ) to her sister before hurrying back downstairs.  she didn’t even hesitate to reach forward and grab his hand, nor did she hesitate to twine their fingers together in the way they always did because it was much more comfortable.  and then she tried not to freak out about it, because this was still her best friend and this was still a friendly thing.

♛       francisco grinned and began to rub her hand with his thumb. he always did that, but things suddenly felt different. he couldn’t help but find himself chewing on his lower lip literally the whole duration they were together. ‘ i like how the nearest park is a literal playground. but there’s a dunkin donuts and a starbucks right by it, so we’re gonna have to deal. ’ he laughs, nudging his shoulder into hers ( even if he was a lot taller ). ‘ i think they taste the exact same, but girls are weird. they always say one tastes better than the other. i think the only difference is the price, really. ’ he lets out a slight giggle and then boops rosie’s nose. ‘ it’s so red. you’re cold ? i think it’s kinda nice out. ’ a shrug rolls off of his shoulders and the two stop outside the two stores. ‘ they’re dumb as hell for having them next to each other. that’s way more competition than needed. ’
