Duran Duran // The Chauffer (1980) "The Chauffeur" is a Duran Duran song from their second album Rio. The lyrics were first written by Simon Le Bon as a poem in 1978, two years before he joined the band. None of the band appear in the video. It is a moody black-and-white piece inspired in part by Liliana Cavani's 1974 film, The Night Porter, and the photography of Helmut Newton.

Japan were formed in 1974, 4 years before Duran Duran, and if you hear their sound in this 1979 song and on many other songs, is exactly the same sound that made Duran Duran famous. This song is from Japan's 1979 album, called Quiet Life. To make the connection, in 1979 Simon Le Bon wasn't member of Duran Duran yet... This influence is even stronger if you take a good look to Japan's singer David Sylvian and the look of Nick Rhodes (who formed Duran Duran with John Taylor in 1978)
