THE DEED IS DONE
I’ve never been so happy to see a conclusion.
Patriotpost.org is a great site ran by damn good folks, quite the exact opposite of izluhm.
Every time I reread the Hunger Games trilogy I become more furious about the movie representation.
These books were about an indigenous woman (with a brain injury in book 3) living in poverty overthrowing a corrupt white government.
She was demisexual, had stomach hair, was not even remotely romantically driven (and canonically didn’t even find romance until after she had finished a revolution.)
And Peeta was disabled and physically abused as a child and they both suffered from mental health problems and the parallel between the Capitol and the ruling rich was so very transparent.
And I’m seeing fun coloured makeup in stores labeled “Capitol colours from the Hunger Games”!
These books were about the revolution of the most oppressed taking over the extravagance and elitism and decadence of the ruling class while citizens starved.
These books were a parallel to our current social dynamics, they were a call to arms. They were a battle cry for the impeding ruin of the rich white ruling class.
And the movies portrayed them as a fantasy, a romance story, a cute little tale. When the real story in the books was one of strength and upheaval and shifting paradigms and revolutions.
And like…… the death of a young Black child sparked the rebellion.
When Katniss thinks about running away in the second book it is the memory of Rue that makes her decide to stay and “cause all kinds of trouble.”
That is an indigenous woman deciding that the death of a Black child is so horrific and unacceptable that she needs to start an entire uprising about it. That is WOC solidarity.
Then again, when Katniss is talking with Peeta about not leaving he literally, canonically and verbally SAYS it’s because of Rue.
The movies did not lend enough weight to the injustice and violence that Black women face; they didn’t waste any time in deciding the rebellion came from their White Katniss’s determination to overthrow the Capitol.
The movies purposely and aggressively erased all of the racial oppression and power and dynamics that were so apparent in the books.
They made Katniss white, they made Gale white, they erased Peeta’s amputation, they seriously diminished the PTSD both of them faced (which was actually one of the more accuract accounts of PTSD I had ever read in the books), they drastically lessened the weight and importance of Rue’s death.
Anyway, fuck the movies. The books are miraculous. Right down to the respect of survival sex workers. Right down to the power imbalances of society being set in the hands of a violent old white man who has surgery to appear younger.
I also found it so ironic because the books constantly talked about how the media would portray horrors in different ways to make them “viewable” and desired by the audience. How the hunger games would make it into a tragic love story instead of a horror show.
And you know what? The movies became basically that. People were fighting over #teampeeta or #teamgale and totally missed the point (but partially because the movies watered it down to be a tragic romance instead of a revolution and in doing so, being exactly like the Capital)
The movies are exactly what the books were protesting.
Can’t anyone just fucking enjoy a book without it being all about political bullshit. The world we live in is nothing like that one. Her sexuality is straight, the revolution was started because a child died it had nothing to do with her being black. Let people fucking enjoy life.
Are you asking people to take an inherently political book and pretend it wasn’t just because you’re too weak
No but that's far more obsessed reading than the boom really warrants. When ibwrote dystopian and connect it to real world politics indont intend people to spiral down a THE MC WAS A TRANS DEMISEXUAL UR JUST BIGOTS
And IT'S POPULAR AND THERE'S ROMANCE THAT'S WHAT THE FICTITIOUS TOTALITARIAN REGIME WOULD HAVE WANTED
Rabbit holes
white cishet ppl (esp men) are really out here acting like politics aren’t life or death for all of us now – even them. Like even cishet white men aren’t immune to climate change and yet you’re all still voting for the people who call it a hoax
Omfg. Politics are not life and death get a fucking grip
This post is kinda old now but I spent the last few weeks trying to decide whether I was replying or not. Part of me wanted to just leave it, but… what can I say? Arguments, even when I don’t enjoy them, are my forte.
I won’t tag you, because this isn’t me targeting you. I’m not going to attack you, because that is unfair, and exactly what everyone thinks politics are. I don’t expect to change your mind, but I hope this is informative for someone out there. This isn’t me seeking out some kind of sick keyboard warrior debate. I’m backing up my post with facts, because politics too often lacks them. Politics isn’t just a popularity contest, or a conversation to avoid at family reunions. It’s not just state lines or parties or candidates. I’m not going to tell you that the difference between Hillary and Obama is life or death, or the difference between Bill Shorten and Scott Morrison, or Theresa May and Boris Johnson.
But anyway, here’s me getting a grip.
Major political issue: immigration, refugees, asylum seekers, “boat people”, “illegals” (or “animals”, if we’re quoting Trump)
Evidence: Since 2000, over 2021 deaths have been associated with Australia’s border control policies, most in detention centres. (x, x, or a simple google search).
In the Trump administration alone, 24 people have died in ICE custody. At least 7 kids have died.
See also abuse, neglect, and mistreatment resulting in miscarriages, psychological and physical trauma, preventable injuries and deaths.
Is it life or death? Yes.
Major political issue: police brutality
Evidence: Abuse of power in fighting riots in Hong Kong, leading to a fears of reliving Tiananmen Square as paramilitary forces are assembled (x)
Police brutality is killing people (x). Black people in particular are killed, especially in the USA, at an alarmingly high rate. Often by police. Many of them are unarmed and innocent civilians, such as Tamir Rice (12), Elijah Al-Amin (17), Jordan Davis (17). (x, x) NB that if a white person kills a black person, they often get away with it.
Is it life or death? Yes.
Major political issue: LGBTQ+ rights
Evidence: LGBTQ+ youth are 120% more likely to be homeless (x). LGBTQ+ people are more likely to commit suicide (1 in 4 preteen suicides may be associated with LGBTQ+ identity). It’s also currently not technically illegal in the US to discriminate against LBGTQ+ people: federal law, housing (although a ban has passed the House of Reps), state discrimination.
Conversion therapy. It’s still legal. (x, x, x, x)
Homosexuality is illegal in over 70 countries, including Dubai, Uganda, and Brunei, where it is punishable by death.
Justice for Leelah Alcorn.
Is it life or death? Yes.
amnesty.org
Please note that most of this information is regarding Australia and the USA, two first world countries. They are, one could say, “first world problems”. Politics is much more visibly a life and death issue in places such as Burundi, Libya (literal slave trade?), Syria, China (Tiananmen Square), North Korea, and Afghanistan.
I’ve gone through 3 major political issues. Just three. And already there’s over 2000 people dead in two first world countries.
Other options include: racism (Charlottesville, David Irving, the literal Holocaust), war (Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Israel/Palestine, Partition, Lebanon, WWI, WWII), terrorism and hate crimes (9/11 and all following action, mass shootings (e.g. NZ mosque shooting)), war on women (FGM, domestic violence, sexual assault, abuse, and harassment, homicide rate, healthcare: new laws and bias in medicine), accessibility (physical and actionable steps that can be taken to make the world less difficult), colonialism (including the genocide of and ongoing discrimination against Indigenous peoples) and more.
But (let me be immature for a second) obviously I’m just a special snowflake and politics isn’t life or death… I hope this counts as getting a fucking grip.
Peiple dying doesn't necessarily mean politics caused their death. That's you putting meaning into something. There are factors thay have nothing to do with sexuality, race and gender that cause peiple to be homeless, killed, etc. As for homosexuality being illegal in other parts of the world, in not in favor of that but it's also not a us. Problem.
Also the idea that trump is killing people in ice detainment is ridiculous. Of course if you're going to flood true boarder illegally and try and get into a country where you don't belong on grounds of refugee status just because you're unhappy is the reason peiple are sick and dying at all. They're it facilities enough to support it. And it's the dems fault for encouraging it.
So yeah, you do need to get a grip. Mind over matter is basically the base line to life.
direct action 😂😂😂

Bisexuals, watch out for “bi positivity” blogs that promote panphobia.
Ex:
Pansexuals are transphobic/chasers!
Pansexuals have internalized biphobia!
Pansexuals just want to be special!
etc.
Pansexuals, watch out for “pan positivity” blogs that promote biphobia.
Ex:
Bisexuality only means 2!
Bisexuals hate nonbinary people!
Bisexuals aren’t actually bi if they’re in a same-sex/different-sex relationship!
etc.
Don’t give them a platform. Let’s keep the solidarity up, yeah?
So what’s the difference?
There is no difference between bi and pan

@cazador-red Loved the CB reference…you rock!
It was a big part of my childhood
Trump’s base is mostly poor and middle class. Trump’s a trust fund baby. Trump gives them permission to blame other people for their problems and that’s all they care about.
Trump baked a cake that didn’t taste very good. Now he’s trying to put frosting and decorations on it, and, I think the cake still taste awful. Do NOT let him repeat politics 101.
He may have been born wealthy, but he was still taught by his father the hard work and ingenuity which has gotten him where he is today. And just because you don't have a lot of money doesn't mean you have to whatever wealthy and vice versa. At least trump worked for his money. Politicians on the left got theirs by being in politics
Ironic how folks like this only reveal they’re the prejudiced, racist ones.
man remember when that guy shot up the high school and the kids went on a gun ban tour and the kid was reported several times for being violent and nobody did shit and he also heard voices telling him to do it, like some of the last shooters have and the US openly has a technology with which they can transmit sound waves to one person specifically without any around them hearing what this person hears, isn’t that crazy haha
Remember when CNN reported that ISIS school shooter training camp in the New Mexico desert and yet everyone keeps acting like that just didn’t happen?
