I’m actually sick to my stomach
Looking at these truths are never fun, but somehow hiding them feels worse.
Hiding them is worse because it blocks reconciliation and consolidates the power of the perpetrators.
Things like the Missouri Compromise are what you get when you value debate and compromise over human rights.
as usual, i find myself turning to YouTube as a resource for information only to be reminded that…. YouTube is So Damn White. most things non-binary and / or trans are So Damn White. a search for “non-binary” and “testosterone” turns up almost nothing but skinny, short haired, white, non-binary people, none of whom i can really see myself in.
which is nothing new. that’s part of the reason i’m on YouTube in the first place.
beyond that, a bigger problem that i find myself faced with is that the very image / concept of “androgyny” or stereotypical “non-binary appearance” is inherently linked to whiteness. i want people to pause before they misgender me (seeing as how they will inevitably misgender me regardless) and the best way to bring about that is, presumably, androgynous appearance.
however, androgyny feels unobtainable to me as a black person, because no matter what i do– even if i do the exact same thing as my white, non-binary peers– the end result will always be me being read as masculine / FtM even more so than those white peers, because within society, blackness itself is already associated with [hyper]masculinity to begin with. your average white person is afforded the social latitude of self-expression to be androgynous, because societal standards of “androgyny”– and indeed beauty in general– have been established by white people with white people in mind.
as such, part of my internal struggle with pursuing T has always been the fact that i don’t want to be read as a man anymore than i want to be read as a woman, but T will pretty much guarantee that the former happens and i’m not sure how i will be able to deal with that going forward. not only because i will be read as a man; more specifically, because i will be read as a Black Man and thus will also have to shoulder a lot of the baggage that comes with that.
and that’s a really heavy thing to bear.
i feel like if i could just decolonize the concept of what “femininity”, “masculinity” and “androgyny” even is– the concept of those things that has been socially programmed into me from birth– then at the very least i could be more at peace within myself regarding my own self-expression, even if society will forever– with or without T– misread me in a way that is inherently informed by my race and the lack of social latitude that it affords me.

Non-binary Exclusionary Trans Activist (NETA)
There’s a term I’ve been thinking about for a while now that I believe is heavily needed and I believe it’s needed because of the vast amount of binary trans people who ignore, dismiss the struggles and oppression that non-binary people face or just flat out deny that we exist.
I call these trans people non-binary exclusionary trans activists or NETA for short.
I know quite a few trans people are anti-feminist so, to include those who don’t identify as a feminist I used the word activist instead.
These people are, in short, trans activists who exclude non-binary people from their fight.
The long answer is, these people are those who deny that we exist, that we are trans, that we face oppression, not only because we’re trans, but because we exist out of gender binary. We don’t conform to society’s typical man/woman binary and that is why we face struggles. If you do any of this then you are a NETA.
It is wrong to exclude us from the fight, we exist and we need support and help just as much as binary trans people. To fight for some and not all will always be wrong.
I wish I were surprised at the lack of empathy on the post from fellow trans people but, unfortunately I am not. This is why I created this word.
The inability binary trans people have to take non-binary trans people seriously and listen to us is so extreme and so vile.
They turn our suffering and oppression into a joke, and make fun of it. I thank those of you who have supported this and shame to those who think the hurt non-binary people go through is something to laugh at.

NB Opinion:
For any confused people out there. There are as of now, 2 genders. Male/Man/Boy Female/Woman/Girl I support dysphoric nonbinary albeit with some skepticism ONLY because there isn’t nearly enough science behind nonbinary people yet which is sad. I would love to see more science behind it and I hope they do more studies :) So until they prove NB is a third gender I believe only in 2, but I support them regardless.
There are more than two genders, and there have been since the beginning of time.
The idea of there only being two stems from European colonization violently rejecting and erasing the existence of a third gender from multiple cultures of poc.
It is exhausting for white people to say they will believe in something when it is “proven” when y’all have worked long and hard to erase the idea of them existing in the first place.

How is not believing in nonbinary genders racist?
i talk about it a lot because its very personal to me as im a nonbinary native kid and its causes a lot of internal binarism, transphobia, and racism for me, but basically native americans (over 130 documented tribes all across north america) have a gender structure that didnt fit 100% into the european standards of “boy” and “girl”, in fact individuals that were this way were an important part of many tribes, european colonials came in and assigned these people homophobic titles (b*rdache) and forced their culture onto the people that lived in north america, made them give up their culture, and violently attacked those that continues to practice it
since the gender identities of these tribes (and other nonwhite cultures around the world that have been victims of colonialism) is part of their culture, and it has been violently attacked by white colonials, it is by default racist to deny the existence of genders outside of the binary model since you are contributing to the ongoing destruction of nonwhite culture which is already so watered down and hard to access due to colonialism

Im sorry, but just because you dont like me or just cause I dont fit your dogmatic belief system about what a “real” genderqueer “should” be doesn’t mean you get to decide what gender I am or whether Im as “official” as you. Okay, I’m making a post on this because I’ve seen it on the dash and I’ve had to unfollow three blogs already.
Nonbinary people can identify as gay. Nonbinary people who do ID as gay are just as valid as binary gay people.
This isn’t up for discussion. I honestly don’t care who you are, how long you have been following Axel and Kirin’s blog - but unfollow now if you think otherwise.
I’m not here for cis people or binary trans people who want to take such an out-dated and binarist look at sexuality and gender.

The thing is that instead of addressing real problems that affect trans people on a daily basis, like the violence and misgendering against trans women (and specifically trans women of color) and the lack of visibility/oppression against of non-western nb identities (such as the native american two-spirit, central american muxe, south american travesti, indian hijra etc) people play quirky edgy on Tumblr and if you complain about their lack of solid ideals than BANG you're an evil truscum.

It just bothers me that significant pre-colonial societies had relatively loose notions of gender, sexuality, and heteronormativity and it was the imposition of Western colonial systems that informed strict binaries in those spheres but now… now when post-colonial societies are still stuck in their previously forced yet regressive dichotic norms and the West has only recently begun shedding its entrenched ignorance in the name of social progression, it has also somehow simultaneously become the champion of forward-thinking beliefs. And that’s just bullshit on so many levels.
