Shay speaks three languages — the King's Tongue, Orlesian and Antivan. The former is simply because of his origins, but the latter is a combination of learning from allies, chatter with tradesmen and the occasional book. Whilst he has lived in Orlais for almost four years, in general, his knowledge has been limited due to the casual use of the common tongue in the nation's major cities.

All in all, beyond the aforementioned limitations, the two are the only two he is capable of holding conversation in.
