Apollo Brown at the Civic Underground

Apollo Brown of Mello Music Group, the man you may mind for manufacturing miraculous masterpieces such as Dice Game and Trophies played a little set for his fans in Sydney. Supporting acts included David Dallas, P-Money, Chasm, Suff Daddy, DJ Frenzie & DJ Ology. Honeys turned out in good numbers, and the homies showed up in full force, everyone went nuts.

Supporters did a solid job, with special mention going to David Dallas for a vibrant performance, and Chasm for bringing solid talent to the mics (The Tongue and Hau rocked out for the crowd). Dickhead of the night goes to Suff Daddy for blisteringly harsh switches between tracks.

Apollo Brown did his best to blow the in house system at the Underground, but those speakers are beastly and held strong. A chaotic audio vortex ensued, and some classy people went ape shit having a good time.

Daily Meds burned down the Annandale Hotel for the Sydney leg of their Happy Dazyalbum tour on Saturday. Mikoen, P.Smurf, Billie Rose, DJ Roleo played the best of their latest release, with a liberal sprinkling of tracks from their earlier EP. Mute MC came onstage to kick a verse on Lost, and DJ 2Buck jumped on the decks to cut up a storm.

Time Machine drops Vicious Experiments.

Time Machine has released their latest creation, Vicious Experiments. It weighs in at ten tracks and two skits with seven featured performers. D.J. Mekalek has done some good work on the production, while Jaysonic and Comel hold it together on the verses. At their best, Jaysonic and Comel will be fluid with just enough voice modulation to fit with Mekalek’s grooves. The smoothest grooves can be found on Inna Zone, featuring M.C. Juan Deuce, and The Art of Tease featuring M.C. Raw Poetic.

At their worst, it sounds as if Jaysonic and Comel are phoning in their verses, as they can slip into a monotone that will bore you in an instant. Some tracks utilise an echo effect on the microphone audio that grates away at the eardrum, probably in an attempt to make the vocals punchier. Vicious Experiments is a free release, and it’s obvious from the diverse beat production that a lot of work has gone into this. That being said, the project could have used a little bit more.
