(3/3) Here’s an update of my portfolio last year. I’m blown away that I’ve been freelancing successfully from SLC,UT for the past two years. Still have to travel to LA a few times but overall I’ve been extremely fortunate. If you know any projects that I’d be a match for feel free to shoot me a message. Happy 2018!

Environment Design- Line Art. Focused on perspective and camera angles.
Filmed a painting trip I did last weekend in Coalville, UT. I did four paintings at different times of day, and recorded the whole day. Join me on a little adventure!
Congrats to the LEGO Batman movie on the $55.6 million opening weekend! In 2015 I worked as a Concept Artist on The LEGO Batman movie at Animal Logic. I focused primarily on the designing the Colorscript. I can't release production art yet but I did these images as examples of some of the techniques I used during production. Images feature Batman, Joker, Harley, Robin and the Scuttler.
Doodlebob sketch I did. Sorry for the low posts, work’s been keeping me busy!
Moonlight was nominated for multiple Oscar categories! Super happy to share a film study of the cinematography I did. In the Youtube video I go through the entire process of analyzing the light sources and some photoshop tools to help along the way. I was lucky enough to see this film twice in theaters and loved it. Go watch Moonlight! If you want more tutorials join me on Youtube! For more Daily Paintings check out my Instagram
Drew some young Steve Rogers sketches for practice.
Digital Watercolor Brushes Digital Watercolor exists, and it’s awesome. I’m using Kyle T. Websters Watercolor Brushes for this painting and you can buy them at that link. I really like the way they mimic watercolor, and I only used a handful of them! Check it out if you have the time! If you want more tutorials join me on Youtube! Quick Lighting test based off of a frame from Tangled. Process gif shows how I was trying to think about light: local colors, desaturate to match environment, fill light, primary local light and details.
Space Sketch!
Did a few studies from the movie Bambi, which I think is one of the best uses of color and backgrounds in animation. Tyrus Wong was the key background designer on Bambi and his personal style influenced much of the film. I did theses studies to practice lighting, composition and when to let the detail just go. It always surprises me how much love goes into every little detail of films, especially animation, where every line and shadow is meticulously thought out. The studies were all done in prisma and graphite, and the color was added in photoshop. -Thomas Zenteno
Reblog because Tyrus Wong will always be an inspiration
First painting of the new year!
