get to know me meme: [22/∞] favorite fictional characters → jim halpert [the office]
↳ “You’re looking at the master of leaving parties early. I don’t mean to brag, but New Year’s eve, I was home by 9:00.”
tcssasins:
tessa smiled in achievement after managing to convince him to give the game a try. she straightened her posture a little, taking the bill from his hand. “rigged? interesting word,” she muttered lowly to herself. less than a second later, she’d jumped off the counter and grabbed all of the balls, pressing a few buttons and having the clown heads suddenly appear. “go ahead,”
naturally, he lost. he was good at sports like skiing, but in throwing, he was as athletic as a fish on a bicycle. he debated throwing out another bill, but decided he couldn’t afford it, not with rent being due soon. “see? what did i say? rigged.” he shook his head, deciding that was the only way he could have lost.
parkerschultz:
“sure.” parker eyeballed him for a second and then turned on his heel to inevitable come face to face with cherry. she stood there bright as a summer day and smiled like she was the sun. “hey, sis. miles said yeah about the whole coming over shingdig so let’s get the fuck out of here.” he said before she had the chance to announce even that of her presence.
at the apartment, parker shuffled through the door like the giant he was and his small as a pea sister followed behind, accompanied by miles. she’d been talking to him about some things she was dealing with at work, and while miles seemed attentive in listening, parker and his gaze would meet for a split second and then all track of what she’d say was gone. what was the attraction parker had for miles? he wasn’t sure but he was positive it bordered the line of a crush. and that, without a doubt, was a problem. “sit where ever.” he invited as he walked into the kitchen,
he’d be lying if he said he was paying attention to what cherry was saying. he cared, of course, a little, but it seemed so unimportant in the moment. he didn’t know how much longer he could could keep up with this facade of his. it made him a little angry, like he wasn’t trying hard enough to crush on the girl, but everytime he caught eyes with parker, that anger subsided. he looked around their apartment once inside, slowly sitting down on the couch. he leaned back, trying to appear relaxed. “i was promised brownies.” he reminded, smiling afterward. god knows he needed to chill out. his heart felt like it was having palpitations. he put both arms against the back of the couch, forcing his eyes away from parker to look at cherry. “so, your work is pretty cool though, right?” but again, as soon as the question left miles’ mouth, he looked at parker, gauging for a reaction.
miles: uhhh i'm sensing a lot of judgement from u rn and i don't like it
miles: but i am high and the remotes under the couch so i cant move
miles: why the hell r they laying in the middle of the street

parkerschultz:
parker rose a brow, suspicion crowding over his features. beautiful? who the fuck uses beautiful when speaking of a man? better yet, what straight man uses beautiful when speaking about a man? his mind was swirling with confusion. he somehow caught on that miles was gay in that moment, but didn’t chose then to say he knew. instead, he laughed. “no homo, right though?” he turned for a second, eyeing the crowd in hopes of finding that gorgeous readheaded sister of his. he didn’t though, but it did make him think up what she’d asked parker to do for her. he turned to miles. “so, cherry didn’t get a chance to ask yet, but she wanted to know if you’d like to come chill at our place? she doesn’t smoke weed too often, if at all man, but she’s a good time and i’ll have some brownies there. if you catch my drift.”
“yeah, yeah. no homo.” he agreed quickly, his smile faltering. he looked back up at parker, continuing to stare even after realizing the older wasn’t looking at him. he dreaded the idea of cherry coming back, even though he did like her. she was a good friend, with a big heart and sweet smile, but it always got awkward with her there. she seemed to like him a lot, and it made him feel gross for not liking her back. like there was something seriously wrong with him. being around her for too long made him feel sick with himself. “your place? ehm...” he trailed off, bringing his gaze back up to parker. he should decline. but parker was going to be there. “i’d really like that. for the brownies, you know.”
tcssasins:
a small laugh escaped tessa’s lips at his question. “what do you mean how do i make people lose?” she asked with both raised eyebrows. all carnival games were purposely made to look easy but to covertly not be. which only led to aggravation and people still asked why tessa bothered to apply to work at the booth this year. well, that and she needed the money. “i did no such thing. people aren’t just as great as they make themselves out to be. why? are you not confident enough?”
he made a scoffing noise, as if the very idea was ridiculous. “of course i’m confident enough.” he walked up close to the booth, looking at the props of the game suspiciously. “this isn’t even hard, just rigged.” miles found himself fishing for his wallet anyways, slamming a five dollar bill in front of the woman. “let’s go.”

parkerschultz:
normally, parker never had a problem throwing people down for their harsh words, but with audacity, he was in sheer bewilderment. he sat there with his jaw ajar and his mouth turning gradually dry. then he heard miles, whose responses were usually dorkish and immature, but this time was far different. he was quick witted and threw the man off his rocker with such a reply such as the one he gave. he turned then, and parker’s heart fluttered with great affection. he turned to follow and stopped him in his tracks. “hey.” he began. “thanks, man.”
“yeah, don’t mention it.” he smiled widely up at parker, his gaze lingering before he turned away. he didn’t know what it was, but he always felt... good around the other. like there was some type of connection. he was certain he could be imagining things, but sometimes it felt like parker felt it too. “sorry about the funnel cake, though. i’ll pay you back or something.” once he finished paying his rent and all that jazz. miles continued to avoid looking at his friend, before it felt like it was bubbling up inside of him, and he had to say something before he exploded. his cheeks turned a shade of red, for once, his cool facade seemed to crumble under the weight of insecurity. “you know what, though? your scars are awesome. i’m not just sayin’ that either, bro. you’re fucking beautiful. like, if you were a girl, i would... i don’t know. you look like a warrior, man. you’re beautiful.”
fck-winnieyo:
Winnie was a bit taken back when she felt stronger arms around her but was oh so thankful for him because she knew right away what he was doing to help her”Oh hey I didn’t know you were here yet!” she said hugging back and then looking back up to the other man “This your girl?” the other said Winnie just kind of standing behind Miles now
“yeah, it is.” he said immediately, flashing a dirty look at him. he gently led winnie forward, keeping his arm around her until they were out of the man’s sight. he immediately let go, taking a step back to give the girl some space. “you alright?”
tcssasins:
hopping up onto the table in front of her, tessa crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back against the wooden stick that was helping keep up her fair booth. “look at that, you lost again. move along, kid,” she chuckled softly, oddly amused by the eye roll she received by the boy, no older than fifteen, who had just tried playing her game. and unfortunately for him, was unsuccessful. “who’s up next? c’mon, waste your money a little more,”
all carnival, or fair, games were rigged. this was common knowledge, they were set up with all odds stacked against the person. a good way to swindle money, though. miles was inspecting the game from afar, thinking it looked fun, yet wasn’t sure if was ready to part with his precious money. when the worker spoke to him, he gave her a tiny, uncomfortable smile. “what’s your trick? how do you make people lose?”
