Did I just read the rave book of the year? Because, if so, I don’t know if I can trust the book community anymore- In other words, I’ve been John Green-ed
The basic of the book is this: small town girl and her family are barely making ends meet. Small town girl has a meanie sister. Meanie sister is adored by small town girl’s parents. Small town girl is layed off. Small town girl gets hired to do a job she has no qualifications for, because she is quirky and amazing and bright and energetic and just stupid enough yay!1!!1!!!!
Small town girl is hired to be a quadriplegic man’s carer. This is man has previously lived a very full life and is understandably bitter with his current situation. He tells her to stop intruding in his life, he is bitter and feels insufficient in his condition. Small town girl is mad. This man is a meanie too???? She is so wronged by his cold treatment. She continues to earn money being a useless ninny nanny (sorry, finger slipped). Maybe she should kiss his booboos??? she should fix his heart!!!!!!!!!! Life is still good for quads who want to kill themselves, man on internet says so! Change is not internally motivated, our heroine can cause it because she wants it there!!!!!! YAAAs
Maybe she should spend money on extravagant activities to prove to this grown highly educated and experienced man that life aint that bad??
The premise was good. This book was supposed to be great. even the ending was how i would’ve wanted to be, realistic. Will’s decision was not one I’d support but it is certainly one I understand. We can’t change people over night and we certainly cannot force them to do what we want, simply for our own happiness. An able, sharp mind and a dilapidated body are really hard to equate. Louisa was a piece of work.
She changes her lifestyle not due to an inner epiphany but rather because someone tells her to. She continues to be this utterly banal and shallow semi functional human to the end, just with more money.
goodness, what was with the POV changes??? the Treena chapter was messed up. Why was every single person in this novel despicable???? why did this book make me want to burn it before I could finish it?
