Has your life been suffering a lack of fictional characters punching one another in the face lately? How about those with amazing spiritual powers? Punks with ridiculous hairstyles and mom jeans for miles?

Sounds like you need to watch Yu Yu Hakusho again!

Come join us starting April 4th for a fandom-wide rewatch of this influential anime from the 90′s!

Why? The Yu Yu Hakusho fandom is like the ocean-- wide, vast, and old (and also sometimes filled with frightening things). However, for as old as it is, there hasn’t been many activities to draw us together for our common love of a great series! And what better way to do so than to re-experience the show that we fell in love with in the first place? It will be a great way to explore new things about it and find other fans who are equally as enthused about it!

But what if I’ve never seen it before? That’s no problem! As well as being a fandom rekindler, this is also an excellent opportunity for new fans to join into the fray as well! We’d love to have some fresh eyes experience the series to provide more of a perspective of it C:

When do I watch it? Yu Yu Hakusho is a 112 episode anime, so trying to pace it out with one or two viewings a week would be extremely tedious! So how it’s going to work instead is that the series will be split into one arc per month, spread across the next four months!

Spirit Detective Saga (1-28) - April 4th to May 1st

Dark Tournament (29-56) - May 2nd to May 29th

Chapter Black (57-84)  - May 30th to June 26th

Three Kings (85-112) - June 27th to July 25th

That boils it down to 28 episodes per month, 7 episodes a week, which could be easily boiled down to 1 episode per day!

As a bonus, at the end of each arc cycle, we’ll be doing a special screening of a non-series related YYH media that fits with the saga! Like the first YYH movie after the Spirit Detective arc, the second YYH movie after the Dark Tournment, and etc.!

But what if I can’t watch one per day? What if I’m too busy or want to get to one of my favorite moments sooner? That’s okay! We know all too well that life can get in the way of things, and that’s why the watching cycles are defined by months! It’s totally up to you over how quickly (or slowly) you want to watch it-- you can spread the experience over the full month, watch everything right away, or cram it to the very end-- it’s totally up to you! We want this to be a super chill and enjoyable experience for all involved C:

Does it have to be a particular version, like the dub or the sub? Heck no! If you’re only familiar with the dub and want to try the Japanese version, or if you’re curious about how the dub differs from the original, or if you want to just indulge in your favorite iteration series without all of the overthinking-- that’s all cool! Hell, you can even watch the Filipino version with the hilarious renames if you can find it if that’s what will make it something good for you.

So how will this work? Is there a blog and/or tag involved? There is! The tag will be #Yu Yu Rewatch and the Blog is (insert blog when it is ready)! Each week, we’ll be letting people know which episodes correspond with that particular one (like 1-7 for the first one, 8-14 for the second, 15-21 for the third, etc.), and we’ll queue up any submissions and/or posts regarding those episodes during that time to be reblogged during the week after! (like posts about 1-7 will be running while we collect posts for 8-14) We’ll also be reblogging things from the tag as well!

But what should we post about? Anything you like! Headcanons you got from the episodes, new things you noticed after watching it again, fics inspired by certain scenes, fanart, gifs, screenshots-- all up to you! Heeeeeeey guys, sorry I've been MIA the past week or so!

Sonic Boom 2014 and now NYCC rearing it's head has given me very little time to write, and... admittedly, my drive for the muse has been faltering a TON, so that's why replies have been non-existent as of late, ahaha ;3; Again, sorry for the delay!!

   “Jasmine it is!” She echoed, grabbing a clear pot before bringing it over along with the hot water. Setting it down in front of the raven haired girl, she motioned as she dropped a dried ball gently to the bottom. 

    “Watch carefully, okay? I don’t get to use these often. Since your dad recommended us so highly, I think it’s okay to serve you this.” 

    Letting the water flow into the pot, the ball of leaves slowly began to open, floating gently to the bottom as the flavor mixed with the water. Leaves curled under themselves, some popping open faster than the others until at last, a petal peeked through. Slowly, a chain of jasmine flowers began to float, waving gently against the bubbles that appeared. 

    Keiko grinned, letting the other girl take a good look before pouring some of the tea in carefully to her cup before setting a paper menu down in front of her. "Enjoy! I’ll let you have this pot for free— Just keep it our secret, okay? Let me know when you’re ready." 

    She seemed nice enough, though Keiko wasn’t sure if it was rude to ask exactly who her father was that came so often. There were a bunch of regulars, but none she could recall being an appropriate age (or disposition) for having a child her age.

Curiosity got the better of her as she watched Keiko bring down the glass pot, obeying her command and propping her chin on the heels of her hand to get a better look. This was certainly new-- she's only seen them used for decorative purposes at their own restaurant back home, for the fancier tea her mother had on the menu. Most of the times she's been here with her father, they've never cropped up either, but that was possibly because he got boring green tea or black tea instead. So what could be so special about the jasmine tea in front of her that needed her close attention?

Her answer soon came as the tea gently unfurled before her, a delicate display of beauty and grace, dancing throughout the clear water. Was that what she thought it was? She had heard of this particular tea a number of times, mostly from the patrons back home, but she had never seen it herself until now. The raven haired girl's eyes grew to the size of saucers, her mouth slightly agape in wonder, mesmerized by the sight within the glass. Her head whipped up as Keiko removed the pot to pour the tea, momentarily jarred from her entrancement, and she turned to face the brunette woman, apple green eyes nearly sparkling.

"That was SO COOL! Where'dja get something like that, anyway? I know my mom would FLIP if she ever got a--"

Keiko's words finally sunk in, and it was all Hourai could do but blink. This? This was for free? For HER?

"Wha-- no way! For real? Isn't this kinda expensive? I-I mean, I appreciate it, but I'd feel really crummy wasting your good tea..."

Not that she didn't have any plans to drink it all, of course, and she wouldn't be able to afford it with the measly allowance she scraped from the bottom of her bag, but acts like this always flustered her up. Her fingers started to worry the edge of the menu, trying to distract herself from being TOO self conscious.

I probably hinted at it here and there, but Hourai is asexual and demiromantic! Meaning she’s not attracted to boys OR girls, and she only really gets the dokis for someone if she’s known them long enough/bonded with them for a long time, ahaha ;v; Of course, she doesn’t know the terms for it, so whenever asked about that sort of thing, she’s just like ‘/SHRUGS IDK’

Hourai would love to cosplay some day, but most of her efforts, while accurate in construction… are really bad in all other areas sdkjfdsf |D; Like shitty costume satin, fake velvet, party store wigs… she’s blind to most things garish, so while it doesn’t seem bad to HER, other people have called her out on it in the past dfkjfds

A bit taken aback by the younger girl’s reaction, Keiko could only blink and stare for a few seconds before putting on that hostess smile again. "No, no! The grill’s all heated up and we’re ready for whoever comes in!"

Keiko fiddled with her apron a bit, before shifting aside to let the girl in. Something about her seemed… off. Not in a threatening ‘I better call Yusuke’ way, but just overly familiar. 

Grabbing a cup of water, she flipped over the cup on a table close to the grill. A few utensils clacked down and she bustled over to the stove top, where a kettle was sitting. 

"What kind of tea do you like?" she asked, looking over her shoulder. "We have green, black, oolong, and a few herbal ones."

Oh jeez, there she went making herself look awkward again. Being in Keiko's position more than once back home-- the joy of being the eldest daughter, having to pull her weight at the family restaurant-- she had her fair share of early birds to deal with too. They were mostly an annoyance to her (couldn't they read when they opened the store?), but Keiko had proven to be a much more gracious and patient person than she'd ever be. 

A finger reached up to scratch her cheek, sheepishly, trying to will the faint flush upon them away. "Well, if it's not bugging you guys..."

Hourai edged into the restaurant, trailing away from the other girl as she studied the surroundings. This was, to her sudden realization, her first time here on her own-- no father to act as a buffer or take the reins when it came to ordering things. Granted, she was was already in middle school, so she was more than old enough to eat out at establishments by herself at this point. It didn't stop it from being any less exciting (or slightly intimidating), though.

The taller girl finally settled herself into the seat Keiko had laid out for her, propping her elbows onto the table and watching her work. Even with cooks for parents, seeing other people in action never ceased to be interesting.

"Y'wouldn't happen to have jasmine, wouldja? I'm good with oolong too, if you don't."

She tapped a small, quiet rhythm against the counter, trying to search her brain for things to cut the lull and the enka droning up above. Small talk maestro, she was not.

"My, uh... dad's a huge fan of this place. I'm kinda excited to try this on my own!"

"Heard the weather was pretty crappy last night

and considering the craziness of the next two weeks (training/working at a new store, Sonic Boom 2014, NYCC and preparing stuff for it), some extra rest will help @A@

Once the sound of a voice calling out to him was detected, the male turned his head to give his brief attention to its source. He was a few inches taller than the lass, but with how he was wearing long sleeved, loose clothing it was difficult to determine his build. The stranger was definitely the lean sort. However, in terms of muscle mass she’d probably seen bigger. An electric blue gaze that twinkled similar to stars had focused on the girl, and due to his thoughts his face had a quiet sadness to it.

"You aren’t the brightest kid are you? I’m not talking to the bush, just thinking aloud." Well, it was more she was being rude, but the comment had been said. Seemed whoever this girl was she was scrappy, for she had quite a few injuries on her.

It was strange running into other boys who were taller than her-- being the biggest in her class, she sort of became used to the sight of the tops of people's heads. In fact... he seemed sort of odd in general. Mysterious, even, with eyes that seemed to rival the shine in her Auntie Usagi's (and she had thought her eyes were insanely blue to begin with). He didn't seem like he could be much of a threat, physically, but she remained guarded, unwilling to trust anyone straight off the bat. 

Green eyes, about the same shade of new grass, narrowed as she wrinkled her nose, hackles already rising thanks to the insult. Just who the hell did he think he was, calling her dumb? Granted, she was never very diplomatic with strangers, and could come off about as delicate as a blunt end of a two-by-four, but he was the one waxing poetic in front of the bushes, not her.

"Like the dude who stands in front of people's gardens talking to themselves can call me stupid!" She huffed indignantly, crossing her arms. A wince shot across her face a moment later, and she raised a hand to scrub at one of the cuts on her cheek. Damn, but all that frowning was a pain on her face. A green and pink lunch pouch, oddly adorable in comparison to her otherwise raggedy appearance, dangled from her forearm, looking relatively unscathed.

A world he had been to once before. It seemed like only yesterday he had slept in the bushes outside this apartment he shared with a kind couple. The man being a crude, but kind person to him that taught him the value of different aspects to life. The woman who treated him affectionately and took him out from the cold. It was their efforts together that showed him what the bond of a family was, and it was exactly why he had to leave those years ago. They had a baby on the way, and with their current financial situation supporting him along with their biological child at the time would have been rough. Shun never even learned its name, gender, or even what the baby would look like. It was better that way.

He stood staring at the old building in which he had shared with the two before fate separated them. Rather, it was his childish fears that they would no longer care for him once they had a family of their own. In his travels he had realized the folly he had made, but he would live with his mistake. Because he had left the safety of their home he had learned much, explored lands unknown, and made friends across a myriad of worlds. Shun couldn’t give that up to change the past, and it’d have disappointed them if he did. Finally words escaped his lips as he reminisced by the bush he slept in over a decade ago.

"I wish I knew where they were now. It’d be nice to say hello again."

Brawls were fun, but man, the aftermath were a pain in the ass. 

Never mind the aching, bruised, and somewhat bloody mess she had to drag back home-- the lecturing teachers, the angry phone calls, the dirty looks the faculty shot her way... it was too much trouble sometimes. Not that smacking the smug look off of Nakahara's dumb face when he made a snide remark about her size wasn't worth it, as it totally was, but she had to start picking her battles better these days. Trying to explain to her parents why the PTA was so far up her ass after the fiftieth time was starting to get old, even if her Papa seemed pretty supportive over her kicking in other people's teeth.

And so, it was this battered, bedraggled mess of a girl that tottered down the small street in this residential area of Tokyo, a quick shortcut to her destination, intent on getting home as soon as possible. If memory served her, this was where her mother and father lived when she was a baby, only moving out once more children made their way in and more space was needed. She had fuzzy recollections of the place, mostly quaint, cozy impressions, and it was always nice to pass it and think of how simpler times must have been like. (Probably a lot less loud and annoying)

Her steps slowed even further, however, when she spotted a lone figure planted in front of the apartment gardens (if one could call a number of bushes that). A small frown puckered her brow as she studied the man in front of her-- was he lost? Stalking somebody? Just plain loony? Hourai was pretty sure he just talked to that plant, regardless, and it was going to prove difficult to get around him either way.

"Oi." Her husky voice cut through the cool, twilight air, sizing him up from a distance. "Are you gonna talk to the shrubbery all night or what?"

    College had done nothing to impair Keiko’s innate ability to wake up at the crack of dawn, nor to dull the annoyance of the enka station her dad so often put on while preparing to open the shop. 

    Tying her hair up in a messy bun, she quickly got to work, pulling out their morning proteins and vegetables to the front of the giant refrigerator for easy access. A quick sweep through of the store, although she had done so last night, and a fast wipe of each table and they were ready. 

    “Oi, Keiki, watch the grill and make sure it doesn’t get too hot yet while I go and get your mom up, okay?” Her father’s raspy voice (since he often sang with the the radio and tended to belt too loud) trailed off as he hustled up the stairs to the house. The woman bristled at the nickname, lips forming a childish pout to match it. Turning down the grill, she sighed, unlatching the bifold doors to let the sunlight wash through the space. She winced slightly, eyes adjusting as she looked down. 

    A girl? How long had she been waiting for them to open? She hoped it hadn’t been long, but who knew with some of the clientele that came through nowadays. Unlatching the door, she swung it open gently. 

"E-Excuse me, miss? You’re welcome to come inside and order." Keiko put on her most gracious smile. "We’re pleased you’re here so early! It means a fortunate start for the day!"

Luckily, she had only been out there for about fifteen minutes-- though, in her wait, she had started to doze off, head nodding against her arms. It was rare for her to be up any time before ten am on her own, and rarer still for her to be out at such a time. But with all the events in the past few days, sleep was the last thing she wanted to do. There were so many questions, so much stress, and her mind couldn't blank it out as easily as she liked. Walking about and trying to clear her head seemed like the best option.

... though her body clearly had other ideas.

At the sound of a familiar voice, however, she jerked up, startled from her snooze. How long had she been napping for? Blinking blearily, the girl searched for the source, until her eyes settled on the woman at the door. 

Hourai was suddenly much more awake.

Her father had, offhandedly, mentioned to her once that this was run by the family of a friend. Heck, even piecing it together now, the last names were pretty much identical too. But to find one of her favorite 'aunts' here? Completely out of the blue?

It was a struggle not to pop to her feet and rush to hug the smaller lady. After all, it was obvious she didn't know who SHE was yet (and how could she?), and things were strange enough already without Hourai getting all clingy to someone. 

Instead, she scrambled up off the ground, brushing the dust from the street from her bottom. Better not botch this first impression too.

"Oh, um-- sorry 'bout that. I heard a lot of good things 'bout this place, and since I was in the area..."

She trotted up to the door, hovering a bit in the entrance way.

"Y'sure it's not too early, though? I don't mind waiting another half hour if you guys need it."

As much as she loved time-travel stories as a kid, dealing with the actual thing was balls and a half.

Not that she could exactly call this time-travelling, anyway-- that would imply she knew where she was going, the means to get there and back home, a deliberate course of action. Instead, she ran through... something when she wound up landing here, confusing the hell out of her until numerous clues pieced themselves together.

Two of those clues being her mother and her father.

And while knowing that she wound up in the past helped a great deal in many ways, actually navigating around the time was more frustrating than it looked. Most of the stores she knew back home didn't exist yet, and the ones that did looked nowhere near the same. Tokyo was the worst in that aspect, what with it's ever changing businesses, though her father's hometown seemed mostly intact, if her memories of the few times they visited served her any good.

And it was with that wandering that the lanky young girl wound up in front of a place that seemed almost obscenely familiar, a place her father toted her and her brother too all the time whenever they had stopped by to visit their grandmother and his family friends. It looked almost exactly the same, down to the awning, the storefront, the windows-- if not a few paint shades lighter. It was entirely possible that the owners she knew were still there-- seeing more familiar faces, even if they didn't know her, was comforting in the face of all this weirdness.

... though it was just her luck that she got there about an hour before it opened.

With a small sigh, she plopped herself down nearby, willing to take a small break from her wanderings for now. That didn't seem too weird, now did it?

So things could have gone a little better today.

If there was any lesson to be gleaned from this whole experience, it probably would be summed up as 'think before you act'. Or maybe 'don't let your temper get the better of you.'

... or possibly 'don't kick down random people's doors or else you'll either look really stupid or chased out by a funky beat rapping old geezer', though there's no way it could be that.

Regardless, something DID come from all of this, despite the mishaps. It was a clue to where she was, and while it raised a LOT more questions than answered them, it did give her a plan of action. And having a plan was better than running around blind, so that was a plus, right? 

Hurrying down the street in the brisk night, following the directions received from that lady-- no, Mama-- about where to find the other half of this crazy puzzle, she kept her eyes peeled for familiar signs. How did she not notice this before? She HAD been here, a couple of times, when out on visits to her Grandmother-- her father joking about 'old roots' and such, before he pitched in with her mother with their restaurant-- but it looked so... different. Older, even. Her pace slowed as a vaguely nostalgic ramen stand came into her sights, a shiver not completely based on the cold running down her back.

This was stupid. She met this jerk before, and was completely willing to punch him out earlier today. So why was she feeling so nervous?

Nerves never suited her well, and she swallowed them down. Worst comes to worst, she could just tell him she was joking. 

Pushing open the curtains of the stand, she strode in, not stopping until she reached the counter and abruptly slapped her hands onto the counter.

"You. You're Yusuke Urameshi, aren'tcha?"

*KICKS DOWN DOOR* "I FOUND YOU FAKER--I MEAN, SHITHEAD! I got some bones to pick with you!"

As it would turn out, this was in fact not Yusuke’s door, but his neighbor; Mr. Wilson’s! His eyes, lacking any form of human emotion, locked on to the young daughter of the delinquent. His features showed hints of disinterest and a slight annoyance at this new comer as he slowly made his way towards the girl. Suddenly, a funky rap beat could be heard as each step he took was in synch with said beat.

“My name is Mr. Wilson and I’m here to say, ‘I’m gonna smack your ass in a major way.’ What are ya’ doin’ in my basement? Get outta here…!”

Obviously the Urameshi method of interrogation hasn't been the best method to go about the situation. An escape must be had. NEW PLANS MUST BE MADE.
