I'm horrible at writing compliments, but thanks for not shying away from the reality of what Simon has both gone through and has done, while still emphasizing that, there is still hope for recovery (and that, despite it all, there is still potential for him to be a good person)

way too many pieces of media shy away from the reality of what that type of environment can do to a person, and much like Iron Lung (the movie itself) you don't do that and I really appreciate it, as someone who was raised in a similar environment.

I'm a "if Simon was treated fairly from the start he would've been an amazing COI pilot" truther. Simon had eons of potential that was thrown away in a petty revenge plot. Despite me reading him for absolute filth on some of my posts, I full-send think Simon should've been given a chance. Let that man work a shitty shuttle operating job for these losers!

I only have one more silly Iron Lung drawing planned after this (tho I might draw some more later, this is just my immediate inspirations after watching the movie a few times) so I figured I'd get most of my final ramblings about this movie out <3

I just wanted to say AVA,,,, <3 <3 <3 From just the trailer, her voice gave me immediate chills and literally made me sit up straight. The RAWNESS in her acting is so fucking good and I was latched onto her every word,, She perfectly matched Mark's energy and made the whole movie so much more intense.

And the other voices in the radio and the monster!?! Soooo trippy and revived my love for lovecraftian eldritch horror,,,, The ending was so vague yet just clear enough to leave me inspired and satisfied,, I love watching all the theories, wether I think they're right or not.

I wish I had someone to verbally ramble to cause I feel like I speak better than I write and, again, I could literally go on for hours about all the smallest details,,,

Saw someone mention a bloody Mary au where Adrian finds Simon before Grace & Rocky return, and frankly I need to take a crack at writing it. Because simon being the one who needs the translator to talk to them, and he ends up learning Eridian super fast. Hes a silly little engineer and Adrian thinks about their mate every time they looks at him.

This would also be perfect for a physically stable and healthy Simon and Grace on the edge of death from malnutrition. Rocky panicking as soon as he in radio distance like "Hey guys, picked up a random alien human and he needs food I need us to synthe–"

"Yeah we have it already,"

"What?"

"Adrian found a human 2 years ago. We have everything,"

"What????"

I really like bloodymary <3 don't get me wrong I love the hopecore stuff, but I also quite like to think the horror follows Simon, and they have to work really hard to get rid of it.

AU summary under the cut

SUMMARY:

Grace and Rocky find Simon preserved half alive in the tree that grows from his pendant, and they take him back to the ship under quarantine, heavily irradiated, but Grace is desperately hopeful he might be able to save the only other human he might ever see again. Rocky is VERY unsure if this is a good choice. Simon is convinced the two of them are an elaborate, maybe indulgent, hallucination.

After weeks of tests and medical checkups, Simon is cleared from quarantine, still technically WITH radiation symptoms, but nothing that will hurt the others. Grace shows him the stars, and Simon feels very conflicted about it.

The longer Simon spends on the ship, the more signs of The Blood Ocean begin showing up through the Hail Mary, and though Grace was convinced he could help Simon work through HIS hallucinations, he wasn't prepared to start experiencing a very similar reality.

That's about as far as I've gotten but I think it's more of a haunting than a They're Actually Dying. I think Rocky makes for a very grounding presence in this AU, since he's accustomed to crazy heat and his xenonite bubble would make it easier to tell the difference between a somatic hallucination and reality.

Ok but the concept of Simon, who rocky and Grace took in and deduced is from a separate universe, saying something like “where I come from we don’t joke about Ryland grace or the Hail Mary. He was a coward who refused to do what was needed of him and his selfishness got people killed.” In response to Grace telling him his first name is Ryland. And Grace just looks like this across the dinner table
