My constant struggle when writing PWP
Therapist, doing my autism assessment: Okay. Next section is hyperfixation and special interests. You’ve never mentioned anything, so it doesn’t sound like you—
Me: Let me tell you about Supernatural and my fanfic.
Hi! For the WIP game, can you tell me more about The Uncomfortable Adventures of Sam in Law School? I love this series!
Sorry for the delayed response. It’s been a challenge to figure out how much I wanted to share because so much of what I could say are spoilers. I settled on a truncated teaser-style summary of the rest of the plot and a spoiler that isn’t just some absolutely random mundane thing.
I’m still working on this story on and off, as life and mood permits, but I feel so bad about leaving it unfinished that I promised myself I won’t publish any more of it until I’m ready to publish all of it. I don’t want to give false hope, then slam the brakes for years again. But if you want to hear more about the story I’m happy to DM and go into details, etc. I’m always happy to chat 🙂
Spoilers after the jump, including a snippet that nearly goes against my better judgment to post.
Please tell me about • Cybernatural Short: Prequel
❤️🩸🖤
It’s a short fic (probably end up being less than 10k) about Sam’s demon blood binge mentioned in Cybernatural. It revolves around him hunting a demon crime syndicate, meeting Nima, and helping her gain power, while also resisting Dean and Castiel’s attempts to capture him. The story ends with the confrontation at Twilight Plaza.
It’s a fun but challenging exercise in writing a version of Sam that toes the line between self-interest and villainous. Honestly, the writing process is all just me making heart eyes while writing Sam and Nima being menacing together.
Snippet below:
“What the hell is he?”
“He drinks the blood of demons,” Nima told the nest’s leader.
The brutish man scoffed. “It’s poison. Nobody can—“
“I’ve seen it.”
Sam could see Nima’s muscles coil subtly and her jaw set. For some reason he got the distinct impression that everyone else was mistaking it for nerves or desperation. To him it was obvious that she was seething. She’d just survived torture by the enemy, witnessed something that was evidently unheard of, and was now being called a liar in front of her entire nest. Not only was the leader being blindly stubborn to his own harm, the guy might be an obstruction generally. Life was too short to endure the likes of such nuisances.
He looked at Nima while gesturing at the supposedly powerful vampire. “Do we need him?”
The nest leader stepped forward and hissed, “Who the fuck do you think—“
Sam telekinetically threw him into the ceiling and held him there without turning his attention away from Nima. His body tensed a bit from the strain causing more blood to drip from his injured shoulder.
“If you don’t need him, I’m just gonna kill him. Okay?” Sam told her.
“Wait!” shouted the former leader, but Nima gestured at him in a dismissive way.
In an instant the man’s head was literally torn from his body. A huge amount of blood poured out onto the filthy tile floor. Sam used some of his diminishing strength to telekinetically throw both pieces of the corpse to the side of the room. It had taken real effort to make that demonstration, but he trusted that every other vampire there would think twice before trying to fight him.
For the WIP ask game: Game Night of the Gods
Sam, Dean, Castiel, and Charlie are made the avatars/pawns/characters in a game of Dungeons and Dragons orchestrated by Gabriel and four gods. I’m writing it as absurd garbage candy. I’ve given myself permission/the challenge of going as stupid and vulgar as possible with it. There’s no explicit sex, but it does ask important questions like, “Do Dragonborn have a cloaca?” … That’s the level of content I’m shooting for with this incredibly-fun-to-write train wreck. It’s been my silly sandbox when I need to get away from the angst that heavily populates my other works.
The goal is to finish writing part one (a complete story arc), then post one “session” every Friday night to AO3. Parts two and three are being worked on at the same time, but with a lower priority since part one is capable of being a standalone story, so I won’t feel bad about releasing it on its own in order to get something out sooner. My stretch goal is to also post some supplemental materials including character sheets, character artwork, dungeon maps, monster stat blocks, etc.
Snippet from part one, specifically character generation:
Gabriel’s disembodied voice smugly announced, “Tiefling.”
In an instant Sam’s body had changed. The basic skeletal structure of his face and overall proportions were the same, but that was about all that could be said for the similarities. His skin was rust-colored. A large pair of horns protruded from his hairline, beginning with a red hue, very much like his skin, that faded into a dark purple as the horns curled and tapered like a ram’s. White paint linework contrasted against the dark horns. His eyes were solid black and his teeth were fangs. From a new slit in the back of his pants descended a tail nearly five feet long.
Sam yelled at the sky, “It was ten fucking years ago!”
Both Dean and Charlie’s mouths hung open in shock at the transformation. After shaking the stupor from his mind, Dean managed to say, “What the hell?”
Sam glowered, making his black eyes glow a bit as if there were embers inside. “It’s a joke. Tieflings have some devil or demon blood in them. I’m gonna murder Gabriel.”
WIP Ask Game

RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs
A quick note: Because of the length of my fics, I usually need to have them in multiple docs. So I’ve consolidated the fics into a single entry (and a note of how many parts/files), that way there aren’t a ton with redundant names. But you can ask me about the individual parts if you care.
• In the Company of Foxes (parts 1-4)
• Uncomfortable Adventures: Unposted (parts 23-29)
• Game Night of the Gods (parts 1-3)
• Odin’s Eye: Expanded
• Cybernatural Short: Prequel
• The Rolling Stone

Sorry to any writer mutuals that I’ve forgotten. My memory is shot these days (finally in the process of getting my AuDHD evaluations, yay!) and I can’t keep track of who writes to save my life. PM me and I’ll covertly tag you if you want in :)
“Sam hating fun is evident when he doesn’t dress up for Halloween or when he doesn’t celebrate Christmas with Dean in that one episode” STFU he doesn’t hate fun he hates holidays that remind him of what he never had. A picket fence family with apple tarts on Christmas and trick or treating with your dad
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ❤
Thank you @ambersock for the nudge/inspiration to reflect on things I'm really proud of.
Job & Family This one is definitely top of my list because it’s dear to my heart in so many ways. I spent 26 months writing this 600k beast. It has several of my favorite original characters and fight scenes. I love that act one starts pretty straightforward, then it jumps the rails with the second act (and I love the inherent trust of any reader who is willing to hang on). The story gave me so much room to world build across multiple planes and dive into the politics and culture of Hell in particular. It’s simply the sandbox I could play in forever.
Beyond the End, There is a Season I often describe this fic as “Job & Family was several seasons of a tv show. Beyond the End is a movie.” My goal with the fic was to really dig into pacing and tension to play with suspense. The main inspiration were 28 Days Later and A Quiet Place— with the added priority of a really mess interpersonal dynamic (post-canonical-betrayal Sam and Ruby). It’s like 100k with the first 80% being almost entirely just Sam and Ruby having to work together. Both in that character/relationship study and in individual moments, it lingers in a way I love. I’m so proud of how it turned out.
Time for a Lesson My version of a dark fic. It was for a dark fic bang and part of my challenged to myself was not relying on sexual violence to do the heavy lifting of danger. I wanted to make the most unnerving, menacing Demon!Dean I could, one that would inevitably flay the canonical one. Sam’s character arc in this one is something I’m very pleased with. And I delight in this dark fic’s inspiration being Treason by the Book (a historical account of a failed incitement to treason, and specifically the poor bastard who got a target on his back because someone tried to incite him).
Cybernatural I don’t blame anyone for not giving this one a chance; it’s an odd one, but it has a lot of things that I’m so happy with. The inspiration was, “If I could write a spn spinoff, what would the first season look like?” This was my attempt at noir (it’s actually neo noir because it’s set in the future with some minor sci-fi tech), a genre that I actually didn't really like prior to writing this, but I studied it as part of the challenge to myself and grew to really appreciate its style. It was also my attempt at writing an old version of Sam, particularly one struggling with passing the torch and his own insecurities. I dig its case fic/noir vibe, and I cackled wildly at making readers read through a sex scene involving elderly people… because I often think of myself as your antagonist, here to put you where you never thought you’d be.
The Uncomfortable Adventures of Sam in Law School (WIP) Despite the fact that it is incomplete, this is another instance of world building that I’m so deeply proud of. Stanford-era Sam getting caught up in the magic subculture of the San Francisco Bay Area. Magical realism, drugs, lots of sex, Sam having anxiety and major illness, a chapter that delves into hunter culture and Sam’s relationship with his dad and Dean— that chapter is one of my favorite things I’ve ever written. It's a piece that's so special to me that what holds me back most from completing it is fear of letting it down, but I hold out hope that with time and renewed practice (and maybe a couple vacations or ADHD medication to reboot me) I'll grow braver. Time will tell.
"But you already wrote that trope."
What if you had a glitteris instead of a clitoris.
And then every time you climaxed, glitter would <poof> be everywhere.

Tumblr recently made it a requirement for you to be logged in to send asks anonymously. If you receive a hateful ask, don’t publish it - report it to Tumblr. It can be traced back to the user that sent it and with enough reports that person’s account will be suspended.

your writing does not have to be good. your author’s note does not have to go on its knees for a hundred words before each chapter repenting. you only have to let the soft gremlin of your brain write what it wants.
