Double reblog because I hit the wrong button, so let's add my point here:
Fascism is the technique of using othering and social segmentation to gain power.
It's not antisemitism. It's not transphobia. It's not racism. It's Anything That Divides And Conquers.
So while some ideology stays the same--People Are Born Different, And Some Are Inherently Bad--ultimately, fascists don't really believe that beyond their rank-and-file.
So if you're busy trying to protect one group, they'll just find another. And that's a great way to wear them out, IF YOU KNOW THAT.
Here are good ways to counter it:
Don't bother switching the message. "We only judge people for their actions." Nothing else. Women are bad at math? Nope, I don't know her math skills as a person. Trans people are predators? Great, show me proof that person is. Jews eat babies? That person has never hurt anyone.
Do not accept anything just because it has a blue link, or because someone official said so. Check the evidence. The Supreme Court has judges who notably use twisted, irrelevant legal nonsense to fake a ruling. You are completely able to point it out.
Hold to this even if you don't like a group. Catholics had child raping priests? Okay, but Pope Leo also directly busted some of them as a Bishop, and Mrs. Henderson is not even a priest. Men are abusive? Your dad or ex was, but Steve from work is a different person. This prevents fascists from sneaking anything in by just swapping targets, or discrediting you by pointing out you're a hypocrite.
There's more of us than them. As they cycle through targets, let different groups take up the work while you rest. Then tag in when you're needed. Same message, same discipline.
You will absolutely need to practice. You also need to tell people what you're doing and why. This isn't a sneak attack: fascists should be named, their logic known, and they should be countered openly.
They will pick any target. So we should defend everyone.
