The funniest part of A New Hope is that Luke Skywalker is a 19 year old who has not locked in yet and plays with toys and sleeps in his childhood bedroom at his aunt and uncle’s house and Leia Organa is a 19 year old with a mission to save the galaxy from fascism. Luke has never left his hometown, Leia just watched her planet be blown up. He’s peeved his uncle is asking him to do his chores, she’s imprisoned for resisting the government. You relate to them both but they’re on complete opposite sides of the 19 year old life stage spectrum.

re-watching the original trilogy is great because you really get a sense for how weird luke skywalker is, just how quickly he becomes that weird AND how quickly he commits to it. Like he's honestly pretty chill in a new hope, but the absolute INSTANT he figures out he can move shit with his mind he goes full send on the cryptic off-putting bullshit. Walking around in full black robes, speaking in riddles, aura farming and backflipping whenever physically possible. He's clearly annoyed when he first meets yoda in empire, but he dismisses that pretty quickly in favour of ALSO becoming an over-dramatic space wizard. The combination of his two teachers being yoda and obi-wan kenobi and him being the son of anakin and padme creates the single most intense and fundamentally kind force sensitive perfectly embodying the heart of the jedi order whilst also serving egregious amounts of cunt and being bizarre to be around. He would have THRIVED as a jedi master during the high republic. he would have been every padawan's favourite and every other master's worst nightmare

here's the thing: i have no interest in bishop and vasquez as a ship, but their dynamic is critically under explored.

It's established multiple times that the survivors are running low on ammo, on weapons. Earlier in the film, we saw Vasquez give Drake (whether you read it as romantic or platonic they obviously mean something to each other) some of her back up ammo after he had complied in handing over his.

Then we see her hand Bishop a gun--after Hudson has talked about Bishop like he's not even sentient in the slightest, wanting to send him on a suicide mission instead of any of the humans (or especially himself), we've seen Ripley treat him with extreme suspicion (valid, given that he's WeYu property and we know what she's been through before), and Hicks treats him more like a tool than a team member. But Vasquez gives him a gun; even if it was impulse, she had that flash of ''this person is unarmed and needs something to help.'' If only for a split second she saw him as more alive than the others ever did (with the exception of Newt, and then Ripley at the very end).

I wouldn't mind seeing a ship if it was done well, but I can't see them like that. even if their actors play a married couple in Near Dark which made my bisexual self go slightly insane about it. But there are so many ''okay so what if [x] also survived and Alien 3 didn't happen?" fics and not a single one I've ever seen looked at these two.

Sucks to hear that the sequel to Alien: Romulus has been apparently shelved indefinitely due to creative differences between Fede Alvarez and Ridley Scott if the rumors are true with Scott not wanting Alvarez to write David into the plot.
